From the beginning it was very clear that Sverige was going to win this World cup. All of their players (including legends like Thomas Björnsson, Roger Hagmo and Ulf 'Opp' Johansson) were at least two levels better than the best players of the other countries. They devastated England (with Craig Wozniak, Stephane Beaumont, Neil Jelleyman and others) in the semi-finals, 4-0. Canada won the thrilling semi-finals after penalty's against hosting country Nederland, with among others superlegends Klaas Evers, Kornel ten Berge and Gerben Alting van Geusau. In the final, Canada (with national legends like Herman Ife, Simon Ferguson and Scott Rummens), held the Sverige team down to a 1-0 half time lead. However, the divine midfield of the heavily favoured Sverige team eventually started to bear fruit, and Sverige won the WC with a well deserved 4-0 win.

HT Annoucements

15.04.2003 World Cup III
The third Hattrick World Cup will take place later this season. The High And Mighty Committee of Very Important Dudes (HAMCOVID) has held their final meeting on the subject of the hosting nation and today announced that Nederland will host World Cup III. This will be the first HT World Cup in Europe and obviously the astounding growth of Nederland in the last season was a key factor in the decision.


5.6.2003 World Cup Qualifiers!
On Friday, the first qualifier for the 3rd Hattrick World Cup will be played! This year, WC is hosted by Nederland, the second largest Hattrick country. Today they have 15 000 users and are still growing.

Among the games this round we see the interesting derby Argentina - Venezuela. Also, both Baltic countries Eesti and Latvia have managed to squeeze in among top 40 countries, a great feat.

This first qualifier winners will advance to the second qualifying round, played next friday.


12.6.2003 The final cut for World Cup
Tomorrow, final qualifiers for the WCIII will be played. Last round saw a spectacular upset as midget league Venezuela beat Argentina, the fourth largest league in Hattrick! Venezuela goes on to play Canada - consider yourselves warned.

Other than that, it´s derby time: Germany takes on Switzerland in a very high profile game, while England battles it out with neighbouring Belgium.

And don´t forget the inofficial Eastern European Championship game, starring Romania and Hungary.


17.7.2003 World Cup semifinals
Time for the World Cup semifinals. Sweden will meet England, and in the other game, host nation Nederland will take on Canada, who defeated "big brother" USA, who was expected to be the number one challenger to Sweden in this World Cup. Finland and Germany narrowly lost their place in the semifinal to the Dutch - well done by both though. Romania was the unfortunate victims of two red cards and thus couldn't challenge England. The semifinals or on Friday and the Final on Sunday.


19.7.2003 Sweden - Canada
What does Hattrick and ice hockey have in common? Well, both are sports that could see Sweden and Canada playing World Cup final against each other. The Swedes comfortably demolished England, while Canada fought a dramatic semifinal against host nation Nederland. After full time, it went into extra time, and with extra time still inconclusive, the Canadians eventually won after penalties. Very impressive achivement - Canada is only the 22:nd largest country in Hattrick. The Final is on Sunday.


21.7.2003 Sweden again
Congrats to Sverige and their coach DrDDD for winning the World Cup again! Canada clearly had already given their best earlier in the tournament, while this was the one match the Swedes had been preparing for, and so the Canadians were unable to put up much resistance. Now, with the World Cup over, the National Coach offices are up for elections again. Voting is possible right now at Election page.
