The World Cup is an international tournament for National Teams. A new World Cup campaign is started nearly as soon as the old campaign is completed, which takes two seasons. The tournament is being held since Hattrick season 15.

The final rounds of a World Cup campaign are hosted by one nation, determined by the Hattrick Team. The first World Cup ever was hosted by Nippon and Hanguk back in 2002, the same year these countries also hosted the real-life world cup. The same happened again in 2006, when Deutschland hosted the World Cup VIII, and in 2010, when South Africa hosted the World Cup XV.

Cup Format

The qualification round starts with national teams from all 128 countries that are part of Hattrick.
This is an extract from the manual, chapter 22
The World Cup begins every second season and starts with a qualification round. 32 teams advance from this round to the World Cup. There are three round-robin group stages, with 4 teams to a group and the top two teams qualifying for the next stage. The final two rounds are playoff matches, beginning with the semi-finals and culminating in the World Cup Final.

Seeding for World Cup Round I is based on ranking, which is determined by previous World Cup results. When no World Cup matches are scheduled, the national teams can play friendlies.

The World Cup format is:

  • Qualifications: 128 national teams in 16 round-robin groups of 8 teams each, first two pass to next stage;
  • Stage 2 (hosting nation ground): 32 teams in 8 groups of 4 teams each, first two pass to next stage;
  • Stage 3 (hosting nation ground): 16 teams in 4 groups of 4 teams, first two pass to next stage;
  • Stage 4 (hosting nation ground): 8 teams in 2 groups, first two pass to next stage;
  • Semi-finals and Final, played on last sunday of season at 20:00 HT.

Ranking

Only three countries have won the World Cup more than once: Sweden, Germany and Norway. Sverige also managed a title Hattrick twice, winning World Cups I to III and World Cups V to VII. At the time, Sverige had a significant advantage in quality of players due to the age of their league and the number of teams in it, but this advantage has eroded significantly in time.
