Line-up
It is strongly advised to have no more than 50 players in your squad. You can have more, but you run the risk of having adverse effects on your club. Every week, you select 11 players for the game. All positions are different from each other.

The players may get injured, allowing for one of your substitutes to enter the game. A player assigned "Sub (forward)" will enter the field, should one of your forwards get injured. If you don't have a substitute assigned to a certain position, or if the substitute is injured as well, one of the other substitutes will automatically get selected to play. If you don't have any able substitutes as your regular players get injured, you'll have to continue the game with 10 players. Always remember to name a goalkeeper for the game, if you don't, an outfield player will move to the goalkeeper spot, thereby disrupting your overall tactics. Also remember that you must start your games with at least 9 players, to avoid a walk over, which will lose you a week's training for all players in your squad, as well as a portion of your club's supporters.

Tactic types
There are five types of general tactics that you can use. These can be described as a common intention that the team has. All tactics except "Normal" have a benefit and a disadvantage, so choose carefully.

These tactics are described in detail in Chapter 11 of the rules, Tactics.

Penalty takers
This function only applies under special circumstances. If a cup game or qualifier ends in a draw after extra-time, a penalty shoot-out is held. Before a cup game or a qualifier, you should decide the order of your penalty takers. This can be done with a special orders form under the regular orders list.

Both the player's routine and his skill at set pieces should be taken into consideration. The player least skilled at these abilities should be at the bottom of this list - penalty shoot-outs rarely go on beyond the first 10 penalties. Note that the first penalty taker is always the same as the one taking the set pieces during the regular game. If you change the first name on the special orders form for penalty shoot-outs, this is the same as changing the regular orders form on set pieces. The other 10 penalty takers can only be changed around by using the special orders form.

As for the order of the first 5 penalty takers, it isn't important. All teams start off with five penalties each, and if the game is still drawn after that, it'll proceed with sudden-death penalties – each team taking one penalty each until it's all been decided.

Ownerless teams
If a team becomes ownerless (deserted by its human user) it will continue to use the standard lineup until this lineup is reset automatically. Such a reset is made 3 times each season: Before the mid-week games of Week 1 (the first cup game), Week 8 (mid-season), and Week 15 (the qualifying games). When the reset is made, all ownerless teams that have had previous human owners will revert to a walk-over lineup (0 players). Ownerless teams will thus be relegated through each series until they reach one of the two lowest divisions, where they can get a new owner. Lineup resets only apply to teams that have lost their owner, not to teams that never had one.

Conferences in Hattrick are a place where you can discuss the game, ask and answer questions, talk about nearly everything, and most importantly, make friends. The conferences are where the community interacts and it is one of the main reasons to play Hattrick for many people.

In the best interest of you and all other players, please read the Conference Rules before posting on the conferences. This also goes for the specific federation conferences.

Each federation conference may have different rules, or none at all; although the federations aren't allowed to use stickies to tell all their members about these rules. Try to always search for the 'read this first', 'rules', or 'important stuff' thread before posting anything anywhere. There are thousands of such federations in Hattrick, where managers can discuss anything at all in relative privacy (within reason).

Importance of training
Training is one of the most important aspects of a successful team in hattrick. By concentrating on training just one skill for a number of seasons a team can take medium skilled, young players and train them up to become superstars, who can then be sold for a handsome profit. Thus improving your team and helping you in your quest to win promotion.

Training types
Training takes place once a week in hattrick. Typically only certain players are trained depending on the skill you are training. If forwards are being trained then only the players that played as a forward in one of the two games that week receives training.
There are 12 types of training. Each have there own potential for generating profit or improving your team. Generally the training types that concentrate on one of the main skills (goalkeeping, defending, playmaking, winger, scoring) are the most popular training types.
<TD></TD></TR>

</TABLE>

Effect of coach
To achieve the optimal training time you need a Coach with solid coaching skills.
A coaching level below that lengthens trainging time. A general rule of thumb is one extra week for every level below solid.
Excellent coaches train slightly faster (roughly half a week) than solid ones but are generally seen as too expensive to be profitable in the long term.

Effect of player age
Young players train much faster than old players. To achieve the optimal training time your trainies need to be between 17-18.
Players older than that will generally train slower. Again the rule of thumb is one extra week for every year older than 18.

Effect of assistants
Assistants coaches also help with training. You may only have 10 of any one type of Employees. However assitant coaches and goalkeeping coaches are treated as one type so a team may only have a combined total of 10 coaches. Typically teams employ 9 assistant coaches and 1 goalkeeping coach. It is believed that a goalkeeping coach helps with keepers' form. Some hire more goalkeeping coaches and others argue that it is possible to have 10 assitant coaches and 1 goalkeeping coach with no adverse effects on the team.

Training intensity
Most team managers agree it is best to train at 100% intensity. It is believed that is brings beneficial effects to the Form of the team, when training at the fastest pace possible. It is also believed that the chance of injuries raises with the training intensity.

When to cash in
In most cases selling your trainees at age 21 is beneficial if you want to make the most amount of money, as once a player hits 21 years old the number of weeks it takes for a skill level to go up is generally high enough to dampen the training profitability. Some people will buy slightly older players with very high ratings, but in general the most profit, and also easiest training, is made up until the age of 21.

Choosing trainees
Choosing the correct players to train is a balancing act. There are four factors to consider.
* Training skill
* Age
* Secondary skills
* Price

There is little to be gained from training players that are not at least passable in their training skill.
Training a player who is passable/solid in primary skill is not as profitable as training higher skills.
But players of these lower skills cost considerably less to purchase.
To get some ideas of the cost and profit from various skill increases see
HAM Transfer Price Evaluation

17 year olds with high skills are expensive. On the other hand, older players train slower.

The higher the secondary skills, the higher you will pay to purchase the trainee, but the more he will sell for when he is trained.

Line-up
It is strongly advised to have no more than 50 players in your squad.
