#Do not spend any money until you know what you are doing. One of the common mistakes by newbies is to 'buy buy buy' without realising what is important in Hattrick. A lot of newbies end up wasting their money on upgrading their stadium, buying bad coaches (eg. Inad/Inad) and spending loads of money on just one player. Do not invest in your youth squad either. As a newbie, you are just throwing valuable money down the drain.
#Read and understand the rules. This will prevent you from making any bad mistakes like above. The manager license requires you to do so, in order to complete the last five challenges. Do not cheat, and second guess the answers until you have all correct. This will only give you a greater chance of making a mistake. The Hattrick Wiki, found under community can also be a useful read.
#Familiarize yourself with your players. Check what skill rating is the best by clicking the link on any players skill. From this, you should be able to work out your best players. Any player with inadequate mainskill, (unless an experienced player) should be fired.
#Buy a passable coach with poor leadership or a solid coach with poor leadership if you can afford one and are still able to afford trainees. Unless you decide to train goalkeeping, you probably won't be able to afford one. Once you have some more money, and have your trainees, then you can upgrade to a solid/poor leadership. Set training intensity to 100% and keep it there.
#In this game, a large source of income is from trainees which you buy with the intention of training them up and selling them for a profit. You should choose from the following:
#*Goalkeeping (can train 2 players)
#*Defending (can train 10 players, (6 CD's and 4 wing backs))
#*Playmaking (can train 10 players (6 IM's and 4 wingers that recieve 50% training))
#*Cross Passing (can train 8 players (4 wingers and 4 wing backs that recieve 50% training))
#*Scoring (can train 6 players)
#Once you have decided what you are going to train, you need to buy your trainees. The best trainees are 17 year olds, because you can train them for longer but 18 and 19 year olds are fine for beginners. Their main skill should be passable but both inadequate and solid are fine, depending on what you can afford. It is better to get a passable playmaker with inadequate passing than a solid playmaker with no passing skills as they will sell for more. If you decide to train playmaking, buy players with similar stamina, so you don't end up training stamina for one person.
#You then need to choose your formation, based on what you are training. Remember not to play more than 3 in a central position (central defender, inner midfielder, and forward). You can't have, for example, 4 inner midfielders, as you will lose training.
#*Goalkeeping allows you to play any formation you want.
#*Defending trainers should play 5 at the back, three CD's and 2 wingbacks, and formations advisable are 5-3-2 and 5-4-1.
#*Playmaking trainers should play 5 in midfield, three IM's and two wingers and 3-5-2/4-5-1 are recognisable, thus should be played.
#*Cross Passing trainers have to play a formation that lets them play 2 wingers and two wing backs. 3-5-2 and 4-5-1 are both recognizable and commonly used for this type of training. 4-4-2 can also be used.
#*Scoring trainers would play 3 upfront and thus 3-4-3 or 4-3-3, which are recognizable should be used.
#Most importantly, have fun! The newbie conferences are very useful places if you become stuck or need any help

Dancing rob: derbies & formatting added

Besides belonging to a country, all Hattrick clubs belong to a special region as well.<br><br>

In Sweden, for example, all regions correspond to our provinces, plus a Stockholm and Gothenburg region. The point is for you to select a region to which you feel you belong. It's probably the one you actually live in, or then again, you may have some other reason for choosing it. You don't have to consider if it's smarter to choose one region over another - all regions are, and will stay, equally good. <br><br>

Function of Regions
Derbies
The most important feature related to the regions is the concept of derby games. Whenever you play a team from the same region, both teams will get a bonus to midfield as if they were the home team.

Weather
The other important function has to do with the weather. All matches held in the same region will have the same weather. Each region has its own weather, which is updated every day. At the "Region" caption you can see what the weather is like today in your region, and a weather forecast for tomorrow. As we all know, the weather forecast isn't always entirely accurate, but they get it right quite often. The weather isn't selected completely at random every day. It's connected to what the weather was like the day before. If there was rain today, there's a greater probability of rain tomorrow as well, compared to other types of weather.<br><br>

The chances are exactly the same for rain, sunshine or anything else regardless of which region you choose. No regions have better weather than others. No region is better than any other region. <br><br>

Community
The regions are also meant to be "fun", so a person belonging to one area can check out how many people from the same area are participating, how many are logged in, etc. Possibly, being the best club in your region might become a challenge, or trying to get as many players from your own region into the national team. There are also regional conferences to discuss all topics concerning the regions, although many of these are inactive.<br><br>

If a team wants to change region (the coach might be moving?) then you have to pay US$ 10,000 and 3% of your supporters will leave your team. <br><br>

Longitudes and latitudes may be subject to rounding errors. They are also chosen arbitrarily from within the region. Should you notice a region in the wrong place, please contact the Game Masters. <br><br>

A list of all HT regions is found here: :Category:Regions

Cheating can be a big problem in any game, it gives someone an unfair advantage over somebody else. In Hattrick there are strict rules about cheating. Having more than one team is illegal. Every team is personal and can't be given to someone else, not even to arrange a friendly when you're on holiday.

Your only duty as a Hattrick player is to follow the rules of behaviour. It's all about the user, and the HTs, and all the other Hattrick players having the right to be spared from a lot of problems, or having our integrity violated.

HT Johan on cheating
On global HT-Johan said the following about (the discussion of) cheating:

Well, the Web is a technology and it makes it possible for people to publish what they want, but there are always rules. Society have rules on what can be published - the fact that you can technically publish kiddie porn doesn´t make it legal. You still have a responsibility. It´s not only society, your ISP has rules as well, and in this case we are (at least) one of those things, probably both. All things we publish are covered by the Hattrick rules. Just like inside the Hattrick site, we can´t force everyone to follow the rules but that doesn´t mean we give up on them.

There are a LOT of cheating in Hattrick, thousands of teams are blocked every week, and it´s hard boring work making sure we find as many of those as possible. Sure we make mistakes, and most of those are corrected after discussions between GMs and the user. But if we cave in and allow cheaters to go free because they are really nice guys and have lots of friends in the community, I think we will undermine the idea of fair play quite a bit.

GM role
It's among the resposibilities of GMs to penalize violators of the rules, but the whole community has a responsibility as well to keep a watchful eye for suspicious activities of any kind. When caught and found guilty, the GMs have several options of penalizing cheaters, varying from a fine (in Hattrick currency) to exclusion from the game.

Check the Cheat-o-meter on the GM pages to see the number of caught cheaters last week. Typically around 3000 cheaters are caught every week, indicating the level of awareness in the community, but also indicating the vast amount of people willing to bend the rules.

Common Cheats
the most common cheats in Hattrick include

* having more than one team
* managing someone else's team (even if you're trying to be nice)
* overpriced transfers
* automating certain activities on the site without CHPP-approval

There are several reasons why cheating cannot be discussed in greater detail here

* It will help cheaters and make GMs work harder.

* There are privacy concerns involved with discussing individual cases

* Discussions about specific methods or cases never work out. They are bound to be based on speculation only. They are never "the truth". They very easily become popularity contests where friends of the blocked users stand against the HTs and GMs, and whoever may trust their decisions. It´s not effective, for the blocked user or anyone else. It may fill a need for a blocked user to convince his friends that he was really innocent, or to convince GMs he needs a second chance, and I can understand that, but it doesn´t mean we will give it any notion. Every user can appeal his case to the GMs, but there will be a point where a case is closed and we move on, and every user has to accept that those are the rules. It might help to see that what we ban is seldom the users, but their teams - most times users are allowed back in.

Overview
Conferences in Hattrick are a place where you can discuss the game, ask and answer questions, talk about nearly everything, and most importantly, make friends. The conferences are where the community interacts and it is one of the main reasons to play Hattrick for many people.

In the best interest of you and all other players, please read the Conference Rules before posting on the conferences. This also goes for the specific federation conferences.

The most active conference forum is Global (English). In this forum, you will find Hattrick-specific discussions ranging from current World Cups through rules interpretations to discussions on specific well known players, like Bob Sunesson. Some thread topics come up up periodically: "We need a Champions League", "Day trading is Evil", "Transfer Compare is Ruining HT". and variations on "How'd I Loose?". Often people just laugh at the Funny names or type I'm Agree. On a more serious note, members of the Hattrick Team also often comment on Global (English).

Other important conferences are the National Conferences, where things regarding Hattrick, such as National Team and U20 games are discussed, the newbie conference where experienced players assist the newer members of the community, and the non HT conferences, where just about anything can be discussed.

There are also Federation conferences. Each federation conference may have different rules, or none at all; although the federations aren't allowed to use stickies to tell all their members about these rules. Try to always search for the 'read this first', 'rules', or 'important stuff' thread before posting anything anywhere. There are thousands of such federations in Hattrick, where managers can discuss anything at all in relative privacy (within reason).

On many forums, the regulars frown upon excessive use of Txt spk (shortening of normal phrases into phonetic or abbreviated structure), which is often difficult to understand.

Before the current internal hattrick conference system was created, people used the offsite forum Delphikonferensen.

Always remember to search each conference for similar threads as two competing thread starters will be disappointed when one of the threads is closed.

Introduction
Any game that is not a competitive match is a friendly. The main point of friendlies is to maximise training, or keeping your substitutes in a hopefuly better form. There is also some gate income will help your economy, but the income is quite low compared to an official league match (it is rare to spot friendlies with over 5.000 spectators, even among teams from the top divisions). A popular thing to do in friendly matches is flag chasing, where you visit a new country every week.

Effects
The outcome of the match has no effect on sponsors, supporters, team spirit or confidence. Suspensions do not apply in friendly games, and red/yellow cards do not carry over to league games. However, players might get injured while playing that match, and they can also gain a tiny amount of experience, much lower than the amount of experience from a league match. See the experience article for the formula.

Income
The amount of spectators who attend a friendly match is significantly lower than the amount of spectators who attend a regular league match. The income is split evenly among the two teams. The attendance will be slightly higher if the match is an international friendly.

Match types
The friendlies can be played using two different kind of rules:
Normal
* If the match ends in a draw, no extra time or penalties will be played.
* The amount of attendance is lower than a cup rules friendly.
Cup rules
* If the match ends in a draw, extra time and penalties (if needed) will be played.
* The attendance of the match is higher than a normal friendly.

Venue
International friendly
International friendlies cost 6000 US$ each. These types of friendlies can have some benefits, though. Many users choose to play matches abroad in order to collect flags (many of these players belong to the Flag Chasers Community). Your players will also gain about twice the experience they would usually receive in a National Friendly. International friendlies can also provide an opportunity to meet different types of players in different countries and cultures.

The times specified below indicates the earliest possible start time for international friendlies. There can be delays for various reasons, and all the updates, as well as matches, take time to complete. Precisely how long varies depending on how many teams there are in the league and on the type of update.
National friendly
A National Friendly is a match that is played mid-week with another team in your club's home country. It will earn your players about 1/10 the experience they would earn in a League Match and about 1/2 the experience they would earn in an International Friendly.

It costs nothing to play a friendly against a team in your home country. However, less spectators will watch your match than if you were playing an International Friendly. Spectator income is split evenly between the visiting and home clubs (as in International Friendlies).

Neutral ground
The term "Neutral Ground" refers to an arena where a match takes place, but which neither team playing the match owns. The owner of the "Neutral Ground" does not receive any monetary compensation for allowing the other two players to use his arena.

Note that matches played on "neutral ground" will not earn a flag for either of the participating teams, unless the match is held in one team's home country (in which case the away team will earn a flag).

Considerations
Profitability
For clubs of the lowest division in large leagues (e.g. Netherlands, Spain, Sweden or Germany) international friendlies (away) are not recommendable. The travelling costs will be higher then the spectator income of the match. Those teams should play friendly matches against higher division teams in their own country or international friendlies in their own stadiums. The economic effect is also important here.

example (german XI. division team):

2247<br>

Dancing rob: /* Training types */ table & text amended

Importance of training
Training is one of the most important aspects of a successful team in Hattrick. By concentrating on training just one skill for a number of seasons a team can take medium skilled, young players and train them up to become superstars, who can then be sold for a profit or kept in the team, thus improving the team and helping the team to eventually win promotion.

But the monetary side is only one side of the coin. Each training type also has associated other benefits and disadvantages. For example a playmaking trainer can't train his players efficiently in the later cup rounds and a goalkeeper trainer is not limited to specific formations.

Choosing trainees
Choosing the correct players to train is a balancing act. There are four factors to consider.
* Main skill (goalkeeping, defending, playmaking, winger or scoring)
* Age
* Secondary skills, related to the main skill
* Price

There is little to be gained from training players that are not at least passable in their main skill. For new teams 17 year olds with at least Passable main skill should be considered.
Training a player who is passable or solid in primary skill is not as profitable as training higher skills, but lower skilled players cost considerably less to purchase.
To get some ideas of the cost and profit from various skill increases see
HAM Transfer Price Evaluation. To compare training values see Barthons Training Value Compare Tool.

As players age, they decrease in price, so buying slightly older players (e.g. 18 or 19 year olds) is often wise.

The better the secondary skills, the more you will pay to purchase the trainee, but the final selling price will also be higher.

Training types
In Hattrick, training takes place once a week. Typically only players who played on certain positions are fully trained depending on the skill you are training. If, for instance, forwards are being trained then only the players that played as a forward in one of the two games that week receive training. Note that only last played position matters for training.
There are 13 types of training. Each have their own potential for generating profit or improving your team. Generally the training types that concentrate on one of the main skills (goalkeeping, defending, playmaking, winger, and scoring) are the most popular training types.

To train the maximum number of players each week it is important to arrange friendlies where you play your trainees who did not play in the league match in the same week.
<TD></TD>
</TR>

</TABLE>

Please note the 'Training Speed' numbers are based on 17 year old trainees, using a solid coach, and 9 assistants.

A very rough rule is that for each year above 17 it takes one week longer to train a player than stated in the above table. A more accurate measurement is that training speed increases by approximately 8% each year above 17 years of age.

Also note that these training speed values are given as an average, and can (and will) vary from player to player. This means, for example, that if the value presented for a given training is 7 weeks, some players will take 6, others 8, but if you look at a large number of players they should average at 7. This might be due to the fact that the player gets a part of the next level after a pop. When that happens he needs less time to pop again. For example: When the first pop ends up to solid and a very little bit (7,02) he needs more time to go to excellent than when his first pop gives him a bit more (7,12).

Training efficiency factors
Effect of coach
To achieve the optimal training time requires a coach with solid coaching skills.
A coaching level below that lengthens training time. A general rule of thumb is one extra week for every level below solid, although this rule is not so accurate with the faster training types.

Excellent coaches train slightly faster than solid ones by roughly half a week but are generally seen as too expensive to be profitable in the long term.

Effect of player age
Young players train much faster than old players. To achieve the optimal training time, many managers prefer trainees between the ages of 17 and 20, with 17 or 18 the best age to start training. Clubs at higher series levels may prefer to train older players at a higher skill level in order to remain competitive in both the league and the cup.

Older players are much slower to train, and a good rule of thumb is one extra week for every year older than 17. More precisely, training becomes approx. 8% slower for every year above this (also called trainings speed depreciation).

Certain training types &mdash; namely set pieces, stamina and general &mdash; do not depreciate in training speed, no matter what age the player is.

As a player reaches 27 his abilities may start to decrease. This process doesn't occur constantly, and there is no guarantee it will happen at all. Typically, very small decreases occur for players around 30, considerably larger leaps for players around 35. For some reason, these decreases in abilities always surface on Mondays. Certain skills are harder to maintain as players grow older &mdash; scoring ability is the hardest to maintain, whilst goalkeeping is the easiest.

Effect of assistants
Assistant coaches also help with training. A team may only have 10 of any one type of staff. However assistant coaches and goalkeeping coaches are treated as one type, so a team may only have a combined total of 10 coaches. Typically non-goalkeeping training teams employ 9 assistant coaches and 1 goalkeeping coach. It is believed that a goalkeeping coach helps to maintain the form of the keeper. Other people prefer a 8 to 2 split between coaches.

Some users claim it is possible to have 11 coaches without seeing any ill effects, but many users have lost a week of training when trying this.

It is not always in a teams best interest to hire all the possible assistants. The effect of each additional assistant decreases fast. The effect of additional assistants most probably follows a sqare root dependence, just as economists do. Hence four assistants improve the training twice as much as only one assistant does, and 9 assistants improve the training three times as much ( sqrt(9) vs sqrt(4) vs sqrt(1) ).

Another model suggests that each additional assistant coach is worth 50% of the previous. If that is the case then you get something like this:

1 = 100%
2 = 50%
3 = 25%
4 = 12.5%
5 = 6.25%
6 = 3.125%
7 = 1.5625%
8 = 0.78125%
9 = 0.390625%
10 = 0.1953125%

Example: Having 5 GK coaches instead of 10 will slow GK training all the way from solid to divine by 1 week only. This is approximately 2 years of real time!
To get that one week advantage, it will cost you: 104 weeks * 5 assistants * 1500€ every week = €780.000

New clubs and clubs in financial difficulty should always bear this in mind when trying to make savings.

* For more information, see: Staff

Training intensity
Most team managers agree it is best to train at 100% intensity. The benefits are clear in that skills increase more quickly, and there is also the likelihood of better form.

Unfortunately, there is also an increased chance of injury.

When to cash in
In most cases selling trainees at age 21 is the best way to maximise profit. Once a player hits 21 years old, he begins to train at a noticeably slower rate compared to a younger player.

With particularly high skilled players, especially National Team players, training can be taken on further, but in general the financial returns decrease beyond the age of 21.

It is also worth noting it is possible to overtrain a player, and make him unsustainable in the long run due to the extremely high wages. The recent market deflation also makes selling unprofitable after 21.

Advanced training
Training can even increase the skills of players that haven't played (for your team). This gives rise to some very advanced training techniques:
* Osmosis training - Making a profit popping players that do not play in the trained position
* Skill trading - Primarily refers to buying players that played in the right position for your training, but at a different club, so that you get an extra player training for free. Also refers to buying players believed to be close to "popping", ideally within one to two weeks, benefiting from market inefficiency in valuing partially trained players. The latter approach is difficult with any skill other than goalkeeping, due to the inexact correspondence of TSI to player skills. (The first method is most effective when combined with the second&mdash;training an extra player for free, and pushing him up a level in skill while doing it.)

But it could be that the goal of maximizing profit is a goal that does not optimise the team over time. This user believes it is better to develop own players to advance in the series system, rather than to optimise economical goals. It is after all a football manager game!

External Links
*Barthons Training Value Analysis
If you replace TSI with salary you get an almost exact value to base your skill trading on and can buy players close to popping in all categories. This is mostly true when a new season begins because the salary is based on that players current skills when the salary is calculated. If you train your player the salary will become a less accurate skill calculator during the season and will only be accurate again when a salary updated is performed between seasons.

In the beginning the salary reflected the players current skill but this was changed by the hattrick team to make skill trading less predictable.

Dancing rob: /* Personality */

A team is the virtual football team one owns and manages in Hattrick. It consists of a number of virtual football players, usually between 20 and 30 (maximum 50). The manager chooses a formation with 11 of these players (10 outfielders and 1 keeper) for each game, plus 5 substitutes (forward, midfielder, winger, defender and keeper substitutes).

If the 50-players limit is exceeded, training is lost for that week. Please take note that the coach is considered a player, as he may well play (and often does!)

Each player has an individual name and ID, along with its current age, and is made up of assorted skills, personality, form, experience and specialties. He'll also have an ideal position, but you'll need to work that out through experience!

Age
One of the attributes of a player, is the current age of the player. Since the beginning of season 33 (late july-07) player birthdays are individual, and one HT-year is 112 days.
Before this was implemented, every player had their age updated every season on the Monday immediately before the first round of cup matches. So back then, every player in Hattrick had the same birthday.

Form
Form is one of the most important characteristics for any player, determining how well he is able to use his skills. You'll note that a good player who is out of form will often be outperformed by a not so good player at the top of his game.

Experience
Some players may not have the greatest abilities, but their knowledge of the game more than makes up for it. Thus, old and experienced players often play much better than their younger, greener colleagues.

For a full discussion, click here.

Player Specialties
Some of the players in Hattrick have specialties that differentiate them from other players. A player may have only one specialty, and no more.

Player's specialties are also affected by the weather, for example a Quick player will not play as well as he could in wet and rainy conditions.
Also players that have Head as their specialty will be better at scoring headers/clearing headers than another player that does not have the Head specialty.

Personality
Finally, a player also has four personality characteristics, leadership, agreeability, honesty and aggressiveness.

Injury and Suspension
All this is well and good, but sometimes a player isn't able to play...

For more information, see Injury.

Yellow and Red Cards
Players may get booked or sent off during games. Two bookings during a match will automatically lead to the player being sent off. Bookings and Sending-Offs during competitive games eventually lead to a suspensions. A player will be suspended for the next (competitive, cup or league) match if he is sent off, or if he has accumulated 3 bookings during a season. This is shown by a red card symbol on the player page. You can also see how many yellow cards have been received so far. At the end of the season all cards are cleared.

Whilst a player can receive cards during friendly matches, they have no other effects than those seen during the game.

Highly aggressive players will tend to be booked more often than other players. Especially if they're also dishonest or lacking in experience.

Players who are sent off still receive credit for appearing in the match for training purposes; if a player is sent off in a league match, it is not necessary to also play him in the midweek match.

Improves the passing ability of your Inner Midfielders, Wingers and Forwards. This done by about 4% of the managers. Note that through passes also trains the passing skill, for different players.

Pros
* you can train up to 16 players by using 2-5-3, and up to 14 players using standard formations.
* Recent changes in the game engine are encouraging multiskilled players so all teams need to concentrate more on secondary skills such as passing than previously.
* Since there are so many training spots, a loss of one of them during some weeks does not have that much impact on the whole training program, allowing to use a player in both matches during the week (this might lead to a better cup run, or similar) without noticeable drawbacks.
* You can configure your squad by having different sets of trainees, making it easier to have replacements for your A-team.
* you can play 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 at your will without sacrificing real training spots. You can discard a slot and also play 4-4-2. This, combined with the possibility of having an ample set of substitutes, leads to a better-than-average tactical flexibility.
* Since passing will be your player's second highest ability most of the times, its impact on the wages is lower. This allows creating multi skilled players that will have only a slightly higher wage as the same player with no passing, but better performance in the field.
* Easy to swap to Through Passes training on occasion
* Future changes to the game engine look likely to increase the value of passing on your players

Cons
* Not for newbies. You need to understand the game before you start training a secondary skill
* Having 14 perfect (in market terms) trainees requires a investment that most teams cannot afford. A lot of money needs to be invested in trainees to get the maximum profit.
* Training a primary skill is often better in terms of team improvement and profits.
* Since the number of players with higher than excellent passing in the market is very low, it is hard to know the right price of such players. Most of the time you just have to be lucky an owner who likes passing spots your player at the moment of the deadline to have it sold.
* You may need to list a player several times, taking up real world time.
Many small investments are more efficient than a few large ones. In other words, it's wise to make long-term plans - if you're willing to invest a lot of future funds into increasing youth player activities, large investments can be a way to get results quickly. If you want to build up a decent structure gradually, without spending too much money, make a small investment each week, but note that with minimum investment (€5k), your squad will only rise to inadequate, and with medium investment (€10k), the squad will not improve beyond passable.

If you don't make sure of regular funding, the structure will deteriorate quite rapidly. Once the level of the youth squad has dropped, it will take a long time to raise it again.

Dropping your YS investment from maximum investment to 0 will cause your YS to deteriorate by one level per week.

If you then decide to start re-investing, you'll find that increasing the levels takes just as long second time around as it did the first.

Importance of training
Training is one of the most important aspects of a successful team in Hattrick. By concentrating on training just one skill for a number of seasons a team can take medium skilled, young players and train them up to become superstars, who can then be sold for a handsome profit, thus improving the team and helping the team to eventually win promotion.

* Age
* Secondary skills, related to the main skill
* Price

There is little to be gained from training players that are not at least passable in their main skill, although for new teams 17 year olds with inadequate main skill should be considered.

There is a theory that claims that for each year above 17 you should add one week (or a fraction of a week) of training. Another theory is, that training speed is depreciated with approximately 8% each year above 17 years of age.

Clubs at higher series levels may prefer to train older players at a higher skill level.

Older players are much slower to train, and a good rule of thumb is one extra week for every year older than 17. More precisely, training becomes approx. 8% slower for every year above this (also called trainings speed depreciation).

Certain training types - namely set pieces, stamina and general - do not depreciate in training speed, no matter what age the player is.

Certain skills are harder to maintain as players grow older - scoring ability is the hardest to maintain, whilst goalkeeping is the easiest.

The effect of each additional assistant decreases fast, e.g. having 5 GK coaches instead of 10 will slow GK training all the way from solid to divine by 1 week only. This is approximately 2 years of real time!

New clubs and clubs in financial difficulty should always bear this in mind when trying to make savings.

Also refers to buying players believed to be close to "popping", ideally within one to two weeks, benefitting from market inefficiency in valuing partially trained players.

This user believe it is better to develop own players to advance in the series system, rather than to optimise economical goals. It is after all a football manager game!

See also
*Barthons Training Value Analysis
If you replace TSI with salary you get an almost exact value to base your skill trading on and can buy players close to popping in all categories. This is mostly true when a new season begins because the salary is based on that players current skills when the salary is calculated. If you train your player the salary will become a less accurate skill calculator during the season and will only be accurate again when a salary updated is performed between seasons.

In the beginning the salary reflected the players current skill but this was changed by the hattrick team to make skill trading less predictable.

Dancing rob: /* Coach */

Every player has a personality which can be broken down into four subsections. For the purpose of this page, we will refer to these four subsections as leadership, agreeability, honesty and aggressiveness.

Leadership
Leadership is a player parameter between disastrous and solid, and very important for coaches. Players with high leadership can eventually be turned into coaches. This is less expensive then external coaches, if their experience is good enough.

Coach
Leadership is an important aspect when selecting a coach: With a high leadership, the team spirit will degrade slower when it is above composed, and it will increase faster when it is below.

Coach leadership makes absolutely no difference to the effects of PIC and MOTS.

Agreeability
Agreeability is also measured on a scale, and the categories are:
* popular
* sympathetic
* pleasant
* controversial
* nasty

The only way this stat affects the game is through TS Hits that may occur on purchasing players

There is also one other category of agreeability, and exists only in one player - Bob Sunesson, who is described as a beloved team member. He was recently fired (april 2006) and is 'replaced' by Bob (player id 109567443).

Leadership and Agreeability
These two attributes are linked, and play a role in determining who the team leader is at a given club.

The exact impact of the team leader is a matter of debate on the conferences. The rules say that the team leader affects the "atmosphere" in the squad (arguably referring to team spirit). Also see the discussion about clowns and anticlowns.

Honesty
This attribute of a players personality determines the chances of a player getting a card for diving in order to gain a freekick or penalty for his team.
The more honest a player is, the less likely he is to get booked.

Honesty can be measured on a scale, and the categories are:
* Infamous
* Dishonest
* Honest
* Upright
* Righteous

Research has gone into this aspect of players personalities: see Hattristics.
</TABLE>

Aggressiveness
This attribute of a players personality determines the chances of a player getting a card for fouling an opposition player.
The more aggressive a player is, the more likely he is to get booked.

Aggressiveness can be measured on a scale, and the categories are:
I've kicked off a contest to get this great project a new logo. For this I've posted the call for suggestions in several confereces within Hattrick as well as external forums.
I'll keep posting the samples which people create here. I'll also post these in the Hattrick Wiki conference. I've created a thread for this there.
Moved the gallery to Hattrick_wiki_logo_contest upon request --psymon 23:32, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Writings will be changed by the artists if the logo gets selected as the new Hattrick Wiki Logo. I can understand they don't want the logos to be selected without their knowledge ;)
By the way - something's not working with the < gallery > template... but as long as we see the pictures, I think it's okay ;)

Shall I make this logo project an extra page?

----

Yes, I think so. Can I suggest something like Hattick:Hattrick wiki logo contest and add a link from the wiki main page?

BTW, The logos should need some acceptable license. I think that BSD, GFDL or GPL would be fine but it's unclarified (see the text at the end of the edition page).
Good point. I'll extract this now - I think you're right. HT-Johan said in the global conference he likes the idea - so it's a good idea that we make this more visible ;)
----
I also think a new page for the logo contest is needed, plus a link from the main page. The main page should be a dinamic and updated article, that reflects events such as this one in my opinion. Also, I can only see one of the logos, and the layout on that table looks screwed to me (on linux & firefox). Great idea! --duno7 23:15, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

I love the first logo, but it needs better text at the bottom. I don't like the hattwiki thing.
The 2nd logo is a little too hard to read for my taste, and it doesn't make mention of the wiki.
I like the third logo, but I'm not sure something so square is what we want.
The fourth is just funny. I think I like it best though.
I have reverted the page again, and I've added it to my watchlist. I'm going to revert back every change that includes your image. No hard feelings, but this is an OFFICIAL Hattrick site, and rules apply. It's not allowed to use offensive words on Hattrick, nor should it be allowed to do so here, unless you get permission for that from a GM, in which case I'll gladly admit I was wrong. Keep in mind that there are members of the staff monitoring the Wiki, and that some people have already been banned from the Wiki because of what they did. Personally, I don't mind your picture and I find it very funny, but we should all try to be objective and act according to some general rules of behaviour. --Catalyst2950 23:33, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Hoopa, all your words seems to be correct but note that YOU are not the staff of the hattrick. They have the chance sooner as you are here to say me: hey you do the wrong thing please be moderated! But they don't do it yet. So it is not the PLACE to threaten anybody with a ban. You have not the authority to do this, my image is an official member of the challange. So get out of it! :)
----
Thing is, the logo's not even very good. Or, IMO, funny. Also, I'm not sure anyone's been banned from the site yet, though it is technically possible to ban IPs. This logo, however, probably wouldn't justify a ban or any action at all on part of the HT staff.

STILL--the idea that wikis are unmoderated is a misnomer. Wikis (and in particular this one) are community moderated. What that means is that if the consensus is against whatever you wanted to post, then you should bow out. At some point, simply being overly obstinate would justify an IP ban.

But there's clearly no consensus here yet. Hell, not even much discussion. For me and my part, I say the logo should go--mainly because it's trite, uninteresting and juvenile. Also, most of the other logos are CLEARLY better, so this one vanishing would be no loss at all. -- Septimusjm
I agree that the logo should go (because I think it's dumb and not funny), but I don't think GMs have any more say around here than anyone else. EXCEPT for things like harrassing HT members, which is against the rules whether it happens onsite or off.

Maybe 2 v. 1 is sufficient concensus to keep the ugly logo off the site? --septimusjm 04:11, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

: I agree GMs don't have more to say here except for things regarding harrassing, cheating, and the like. Also it is slightly more easy for me to get the attention of those actually running the wiki, who in turn have the power to ban people from the wiki.
:However, as there seems to be a 3 to 1 or even 4 to 1 (me included) that the logo is not really suitable for the contest, I would like to keep the rtfw-logo off the page.
I don't like Attreides' logo and the language used in it and I'm sure that it will never be used as the HT Wiki logo. However, as long as this contest is running I think that it is up to Attreides to decide whether he still want to participate with his logo and no one else should take it off. (We're talking about freedom of expression here, not plain use of bad language...)
But if Attreides has any common sense he should come up with another logo. --Wyatt 10:13, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

----
We're actually NOT talking about freedom of expression. Not for individuals anyway. Hattrick wiki is a community undertaking which in an important way is less about individual expression than self-less expression and compromise.
Maybe I didn't express myself clear enough. I agree that Wiki isn't the place where everyone must be allowed to contribute whatever (s)he wants for the sake of "freedom of expression".
But with respect to the logo contest I think that anyone should be allowed participate with any logo (even if it is a bad one). It's not up to us to ban logo's from the contest, we should just point out to the participant that the logo is not appropriate, has no chance to win the contest and ask him to come up with another one. --Wyatt 12:26, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
In the table in Chapter 17 of the rules, this is indicated by "((others))". Note that players do not receive this training with goalkeeping training. This small amount of training is estimated to be around 1/6 of the training a player receives that played on the right position for that training type.
Some managers try to profit from this phenomenon by buying a lot of players with a very high sub-level. Derived from a cardgame that was popular among proffesional players in Holland. Because not everyone could stand losing or felt obliged to pay their debts, this sometimes resulted in a bit of tension, even to the extent that players were forbidden to play klaverjas anymore by their coaches.
::I know little about databases, but i know something about webdesign and fitting a certain amount of characters in a box that's limited by pixelwidth can be problem. Typing only 'www' instead of 'iii' will matter a lot in a non-monospaced font. The messegebox is just (i.e.) 200x200 pxl and it can't stretch if you decide to type 300 w's. But I'm not sure on this at all, just a theory. :::The textbox where you enter the text might be of limited size, but everywhere where the data is shown varies in height according to the amount of data entered. The limit on characters used is almost certainly related to the amount of characters allowed in appropriate database sections. And there is no feasible way to limit the amount of text you enter according to how much space it would take with a non-monospace font. --Jhattara 10:15, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
It is quite clear that the error in the character counter is caused by new line characters and this can easily be tested by anyone who counts how many new lines his post has. :::There's already a template for "based on research". We have three templates for game-information: based on opinion for information that is considered "common knowledge" but isn't easily verifiable, based on research for information that has been gleaned from research using actual in-game data, and based on fact for information that the HTs have said using the rules, public conferences, MyHT, or an editorial.
Last club money is paid to the teams that change owners
I disagree of the existance of this bug. I have heard several times that previously owned players do appear in the bids page of the new owner of the team, but no money is received. More accurately, I recall that the percentage announced in the bids page is zero, and thus the amount of money paid will also be zero. But I do agree that the policy of old players appearing in the bids page can be confusing. --Fluster 22:01, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
* User:Catalyst - Thanks for the nomination. Here's what I'll say... I've spent about 2 1/2 years in HT and I've been quite active, so interest in HT is not a problem. I think Wikis are great, and I do have a lot of experience with Wiki editing (On Wikipedia, here, and on another wiki dedicated to HomestarRunner.com). I've never been an administrator for a Wiki before, but I do have experience with moderating in another MMO named War of Conquest, in which I was a chat moderator. I believe that administrators are crucial to the advancement of this wiki, which is why I'm incredibly happy to see the idea finally brought to the attention of the HTs in some concrete form. I've worked in the past a great deal with this wiki, and I think it has great potential but lacks the structure needed to advance its development. As a result, my main goal as administrator, if I am given the privilege, would be to assist in developing the structure needed to help this wiki grow. Without getting too long-winded, I just have to say I'm very ready for this job. Achievements pertinent to this job include:
** writing the HT Wiki Getting started page, a basic guide to wiki editing
** Assisting a great deal in the expansion of the English Hattrick Article on the Wikipedia (50+ edits of this article alone...my username on the wiki is DMurphy if you wish to view my edits) and creating the ExtraLives AB Article
** Archiving the entire World Cup V
** Helping a great deal with USA-related articles, including interaction with the USA community in Hattrick to obtain data (such as election results)
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, whether here on the wiki or via HT-mail (My HT username is the same as my wiki name).
The Hattrick community is generally regarded as one of the best aspects of the game, with a userbase of over 700,000 people to interact with. Within the game, the community is built by the Conferences, HT mail, guest books of supporters. There are also many other websites devoted to the community, such as Hottrick, HattriX, Ione.se and the Bottom Division Federation Sites.
The 2-7-1 (also known as the Montgomery Formation) is a very midfield-heavy formation, using at least 5 inner midfielders. It is usually undesirable for regular club teams because fielding more than three inner midfielders will cause a loss of training. National teams sometimes use this formation to gain a superior midfield, but it will certainly cause confusion as it is impossible to gain Formation Experience in this formation.
Perhaps the best-known use of this formation was in Canada's match against Sweden in the final of WC III. Canada lost 4-0 on that day, but were only down 1-0 at the half.
