Selling players
Hi, I don't think a player that is sold like 5 minutes before the match will play,
since i thought matches are calculated when the game starts and not before. But I'm not quite sure, so where did you get the info about the 15 minutes rule? --- Jossie

----
Hi there
The calculation of the matches starts 15 minutes before the game starts and that's why you can't change the set-up from then on. When the game starts, the calculation is already finished (if the reporter's late, the calculation is still in work). And certainly you can imagine that while the game is calculated a player can't just be taken out of the set up
btw: I didn't find a source on the quick --- Drei10

----
Ok, but you can put a line-up in those 15 minutes, by setting a standard line-up for the next game (if you didn't set orders already), and I was always told that the match was calculated between minuut 0 and the time the reporter gets there. btw: haven't got a source quick also :)--- Jossie

----
I'm quite sure that this doesn't work (anymore, if it ever worked). In the past you could read this a lot. Just try it because I'm not absolutely sure but I think it's not the case. --- Drei10
: Have a look here for some hard facts: HTs_on_Global/Match_calculation :) --EchoMan 21:43, April 29, 2009 (UTC) Ps. I had a source quick :D

----
Ayayay, this destroys my whole world view ;) Thank you! So the player won't play the game if he's sold in this time buffer of 15 minutes?

Drei10: /* Advanced training */

Importance of training
Training is one of the most important aspects of a successful team in Hattrick. By concentrating on training just one skill for a number of seasons a team can take medium skilled, young players and train them up to become superstars, who can then be sold for a profit or kept in the team, thus improving the team and helping the team to eventually win promotion.

But the monetary side is only one side of the coin. Each training type also has associated other benefits and disadvantages. For example a playmaking trainer can't train his players efficiently in the later cup rounds and a goalkeeper trainer is not limited to specific formation.

Choosing trainees
Choosing the correct players to train is a balancing act. There are four factors to consider.
* Main skill (goalkeeping, defending, playmaking, winger or scoring)
* Age
* Secondary skills, related to the main skill
* Price

There is little to be gained from training players that are not at least passable in their main skill. For new teams 17 year olds with at least Passable main skill should be considered.
Training a player who is passable or solid in primary skill is not as profitable as training higher skills, but lower skilled players cost considerably less to purchase.
To get some ideas of the cost and profit from various skill increases see
HAM Transfer Price Evaluation.

As players age, they decrease in price, so buying slightly older players (e.g. 18 or 19 year olds) is often wise.

The better the secondary skills, the more you will pay to purchase the trainee, but the final selling price will also be higher.

Training types
In Hattrick, training takes place once a week. Typically only players who played on certain positions are fully trained depending on the skill you are training. If, for instance, forwards are being trained then only the players that played as a forward in one of the two games that week receive training. There are 12 types of training. Each have their own potential for generating profit or improving your team. Generally the training types that concentrate on one of the main skills (goalkeeping, defending, playmaking, winger, and scoring) are the most popular training types.

To train the maximum number of players each week it is important to arrange friendlies where you play your trainees who did not play in the league match in the same week.

Brackets indicate small effects. Double brackets indicate very small effects.
<TD></TD>
</TR>

</TABLE>

Please note the 'Training Speed' numbers are based on 100% training intensity, 15% stamina training, 17 year old trainees having a skillup from solid to excellent, using a solid coach, and 9 assistants.

A very rough rule is that for each year above 17 it takes a half week longer to train a player than stated in the above table. A more accurate measurement is that training time increases by approximately 4% each year above 17 years of age.

Also note that these training speed values are given as an average, and can (and will) vary from player to player. This means, for example, that if the value presented for a given training is 7 weeks, some players will take 6, others 8, but if you look at a large number of players they should average at 7. This might be due to the fact that the player gets a part of the next level after a pop. When that happens he needs less time to pop again. For example: When the first pop ends up to solid and a very little bit (7,02) he needs more time to go to excellent than when his first pop gives him a bit more (7,12).

There is a MS Excel table (see External Links below) to calculate the length of skillups, taking the various parameters (age, trainer, assistants, skill level, ...) into account.
It's based on > 400.000 data samples provided by the the Hattrick Organizer users.

Training efficiency factors
Effect of stamina training
The amount of training that you devote to stamina will cut into the amount of skill training accomplished each week. You will have to balance the amount of stamina training you need to maintain your preferred squad level (as well as any added stamina for trainees).

Effect of coach
To achieve the optimal training time requires a coach with solid coaching skills.
A coaching level below that lengthens training time. A general rule of thumb is one extra week for every level below solid, although this rule is not so accurate with the faster training types.

Excellent coaches train slightly faster than solid ones by roughly half a week but are generally seen as too expensive to be profitable in the long term.

Effect of player age
Young players train much faster than old players. To achieve the optimal training time, many managers prefer trainees between the ages of 17 and 20, with 17 or 18 the best age to start training. Clubs at higher series levels may prefer to train older players at a higher skill level in order to remain competitive in both the league and the cup.

Older players are slower to train, and a good rule of thumb is one half extra week for every year older than 17. More precisely, training becomes approx. 4% slower for every year above this (also called trainings speed depreciation).

As a player reaches 27 his abilities may start to decrease. This process doesn't occur constantly, and there is no guarantee it will happen at all. Typically, very small decreases occur for players around 30, considerably larger leaps for players around 35. For some reason, these decreases in abilities always surface on Mondays. Certain skills are harder to maintain as players grow older &mdash; scoring ability is the hardest to maintain, whilst goalkeeping is the easiest.

Effect of assistants
Assistant coaches also help with training. A team may only have 10 of any one type of staff. However assistant coaches and goalkeeping coaches are treated as one type, so a team may only have a combined total of 10 coaches. Typically non-goalkeeping training teams employ 9 assistant coaches and 1 goalkeeping coach. It is believed that a goalkeeping coach helps to maintain the form of the keeper. Other people prefer a 8 to 2 split between coaches.

Some users claim it is possible to have 11 coaches without seeing any ill effects, but many users have lost a week of training when trying this.

It is not always in a team's best interest to hire all the possible assistants. The effect of each additional assistant decreases fast. The effect of additional assistants most probably follows a square root dependence, just as economists do. Hence four assistants improve the training twice as much as only one assistant does, and 9 assistants improve the training three times as much ( sqrt(9) vs sqrt(4) vs sqrt(1) ).

Another model suggests that each additional assistant coach is worth 50% of the previous. If that is the case then you get something like this:

1 = 100%
2 = 50%
3 = 25%
4 = 12.5%
5 = 6.25%
6 = 3.125%
7 = 1.5625%
8 = 0.78125%
9 = 0.390625%
10 = 0.1953125%

Example: Having 5 GK coaches instead of 10 will slow GK training all the way from solid to divine by 1 week only. This is approximately 2 years of real time!
To get that one week advantage, it will cost you: 104 weeks * 5 assistants * 1500€ every week = €780.000

New clubs and clubs in financial difficulty should always bear this in mind when trying to make savings.

* For more information, see: Staff

Training intensity
Most team managers agree it is best to train at 100% intensity. The benefits are clear in that skills increase more quickly, and there is also the likelihood of better form.

Unfortunately, there is also an increased chance of injury.

When to cash in
In most cases selling trainees at age 21 is the best way to maximise profit. Once a player hits 21 years old, he begins to train at a noticeably slower rate compared to a younger player.

With particularly high skilled players, especially National Team players, training can be taken on further, but in general the financial returns decrease beyond the age of 21.

It is also worth noting it is possible to overtrain a player, and make him unsustainable in the long run due to the extremely high wages. The recent market deflation also makes selling unprofitable after 21.

Advanced training
* Skill trading - Primarily refers to buying players believed to be close to "popping", ideally within one to two weeks, benefiting from market inefficiency in valuing partially trained players. This approach is difficult with any skill other than goalkeeping, due to the inexact correspondence of TSI to player skills.

* Osmosis training - Up to global season 34, every player in a team got at least a bit of training, even if they didn't play at all. Many teams profited from this by buying a lot of players (up to 50) and waiting for a pop in a few weeks while doing nothing. But from season 35 every player needs to play at least once in a week to get the minimum training, effectively decreasing the profitability of this technique.

But it could be that the goal of maximizing profit is a goal that does not optimise the team over time. Some users believe it is better to develop your own players to advance in the series system, rather than to optimise economical goals. It is after all a football manager game!

Individual training instruction
On the 3rd of July 2008, Hattrick announced that Individual training instruction was available. This means you may exclude up to three players from getting any training (except Stamina) at all from playing a game. The main point of this feature is to avoid paying excessive salaries for players that are already very highly skilled. You access this feature from your Training page.

----
Ok, but you can put a line-up in those 15 minutes, by setting a standard line-up for the next game (if you didn't set orders already), and I was always told that the match was calculated between minuut 0 and the time the reporter gets there. btw: haven't got a source quick also :)--- Jossie
I'm quite sure that this doesn't work (anymore, if it ever worked). In the past you could read this a lot. Just try it because I'm not absolutely sure but I think it's not the case. --- Drei10

Selling or Buying Players
Selling players
In order to sell a player you have to place him on the transfer list. When doing this, you must also choose a category from goalkeeper to forward, and set an asking price. Note that most people will search by skills whichever category you select, so it doesn't matter much what player category you place him in.

A new rule from global season 38 is that you can not transfer list a player more times than he have played games for your club. This action was taken as a step towards realism and against day trading.

You have to declare a starting price for the player. This is the lowest amount for which you're prepared to let him go. He'll be on the transfer list 3 days before going to the club that has offered the most for him. There are various theories regarding the value of starting prices, with some people feeling players should always be listed for 0, whilst others prefer listing for the minimum price they feel is acceptable.

A sold player disappears off to his new club immediately after the bidding is over (although note this may take some time, particularly if the servers are busy). If a buyer isn't found he stays at your club. If you have placed a player on the transfer list you MAY NOT change your mind! He's there for 3 days, and that's that! The only possibility to hold him is to 'buy' him (but you will have to pay the transfer fees). Also, keep in mind that all information on the player's abilities will be made common knowledge when you place him on the transfer list.

You may select a player for the team even if he is on the transfer list; however, if he is sold more than 15 minutes before the match starts, a substitute player will take his place at the pitch. If a player is sold during a match and up to 15 minutes before the game starts, he will finish the match and then leave.

After every completed deal, the player's agent, mother club, and last club will all take their cut of the sale price. The exact amount you will receive depends on how long the player has been with your club. The least you can except after 0 days in club is 83%, the most is 93% after 106 days. The table below shows how % goes by days in club. (Exception is 95% when it's your own youth player, because you can expect the 2% of mother club money) It will cost you € 1 000 to place a player on the transfer list, which is not refunded if he isn't sold. Note: If you are selling one of your own youth players you are not considered the previous owner - but the next time he is sold you will receive previous club money (if he has played a match for your team) as well as 2% of the sale price for being the mother club. After that you will only receive money for being the mother club whenever the player is sold. The sale of a player after up to exactly six days (= 144 hours) from being pulled from the youth squad will never result in a loss of team spirit.

Table of receiving money by lenght of being in club.
Buying players
In order to buy a player from another club you have to visit Hattrick's player market, under the Transfers menu. This is where you'll find out who's for sale. You can only buy players on the transfer list. You can't buy, or exchange, for that matter, players directly from another club. If you don't see a player that you like in your country's local market - you can search either an individual country or by one of eight regions, these are all available from the drop-down box on the transfer search page.

When you've found a player you want, click on his name and you'll enter his player page. This is where you may place your offer. You must raise the bid by € 1 000 or 2% more, whichever is greater.

Note that the sum of your bids cannot put you more than € 200 000 into debt.

Bids must be raised by a minimum of € 1 000 or 2% of the existing bid, whichever of the two amounts is larger. You may bid on a player right up until the deadline. If someone places an offer less than 3 minutes before the deadline, the deadline will be reset to 3 minutes after the last bid. This process continues until a full 3 minutes have elapsed without a fresh high bid being placed. A sale is confirmed when the words "Bidding is finished" appear beneath the selling price. Also, when you win an auction, if the new player does not get along with his teammates, you may see team spirit decrease.

Keep in mind that the server might be down just as the deadline is running out. You'll be taking a chance by waiting until the last minute before making your move. If the server is down, you're to blame for not acting earlier.

A great help when buying players is the information concerning his abilities, personality etc. You may also want to consider a player's TSI, or Total Skill Index. However, the current market value of a player may differ greatly from what his TSI might lead you to expect as, above all, it's his top ability (or abilities) that is most relevant - a player being "world class" at something and "weak" in all other abilities will fetch a higher market price than one who is solid at everything. Remember that even if current form doesn't have a lot of impact on the market value, it will matter for his next couple of games. An expensive player won't necessarily be the saviour you need to get your team out of a tight spot. If you wish, you can use the Transfer Compare button in order to see what a similar player has recently been sold for on the market.

Fair Play in the Transfer Market
Good players and money are key aspects in Hattrick, which makes it very important that no teams benefit from abnormal activities on the transfer market. This means that all bids should be in relevance to what could be considered reasonable for the player in question. Remember, it's not only prohibited to have several teams but also to "help" friends or family by buying players at inflated prices. The GameMasters are fully authorized to cancel or adjust abnormal prices, hand out fines to teams or even ban the users involved.

TS-Drop
Whenever you buy or sell a player there are chances for your team spirit to drop. This drop can be visible or invisible (due to the fact that it might not drop a full level), but when it happens there is always a message on "The Club" page.

Based on research

The PFO (AllianceID: 23565) examined the chances of getting a TS-drop with an input of over 650 transfers. It appears that only the agreeability of a player has influence on getting a TS-drop or not. The research gave them the following data:

The sale of a player after more than exactly six days (= 144 hours) from being pulled from the youth squad may result in a loss of team spirit.

Every team needs an arena where they can play their home matches. Your job is to build your arena as big as needed, but not to build it too big, because you must pay every week to keep your arena in shape. There are four types of stands:
* Terraces (most spectators will use terraces, so you need more these than seats);
* Regular seats (spectators who want some comfort when watching games buy regular seats, these are the second most used, so build these a lot too);
* Seats under the roof (these are for people who want to a see match as comfortably as possible. Still, relatively a lot of spectators buys tickets for these seats, even more of these will be sold during bad weather);
* Seats in VIP lounge (only important spectators like sponsors use these seats, thus,you need to build only a few of these)
Stadium Expansion Theories
Attendees will come to your matches with the desire of a certain seat category. I.e. a given portion of the potential attendees will fill terraces and others basic seats, seats under roof and VIP seats. If a seat of the given category is not available (i.e. the category is filled), the potential attendee will not buy another category.

Hence, when building your arena, you should build it with a certain category ratio. Unfortunately the ratio is dependent on supporter mood. I.e. in order to build the optimum arena, you should give your best prediction of your future (short term) fan mood. The dependency of the ratio on fan mood was published in The Optimum Stadium Study performed by danish federation Statistikforbundet with a background of more than 600 verified data sets collected through their webpage. After finding the relationships between fan mood, category ratios and attendance, the study calculated an arena size (denoted per fan), where the probability of filling the last one build seat equals the usual expected ratio between ticket price and maintenance cost.

At the moment no helper applications have implemented the new ratios, which are a bit more complicated than the earlier ones due to the fan mood dependency (introduces in hattrick season 35), but they are recapitulated below in arena size per fan.
Notice that these figures can be seen as "the maximum arena with all seats generating profit over time". However, it is quite aggressive for new and/or poor teams, since the payback rate of the last seats are very low. Instead one might use the ratios given below and build a smaller stadium more suitable to the economics of the given team.
Your stadium is an expensive long-term investment, which will take around two seasons to pay for itself at best. It is generally better to improve your stadium in small steps (say 2,000 to 4,000), and only if you will be able to fill those additional places in the majority of your up-coming matches.

Notes
* When budgeting for arena expansions remember that you may not take more than 500 000 € debt.
* Statistikforbundet is still collecting numbers in order to verify and improve the numbers. Data can be submitted here.
There are eight different types of specialist available for your club. They efficiently manage different team functions and cost 1800€ per week in salary, paid during the weekly economic update. Firing a specialist will result in a 1800€ hit.

You can hire at most 244 specialists of each type, but the effects of each additional specialist is slightly lower than the effects of the one before him. The number of specialists you employ, as well as the hire/fire menu, can be found on the "The Club" page.

Overstaffing
Having more than ten specialists of the same type (e.g. 11 doctors or 12 spokespersons) will create problems and cause negative effects in your training, team spirit, and economy zones. For every specialist above ten, the risk of negative effects increases. Goalkeeping and assistant coaches are counted as the same type, thus any combination of ten or less (i.e. 5 Goal., 5 Ass.) is acceptable.

Some say you can safely hire a total of 11 goalkeeping/assistant coaches, however this does carry the risk of losing all training for a week and is not worth the risk.

Since season 36 staff salaries are 1800 euro each.
