: The Economy page and menu link within Hattrick has been renamed Finances as of 12/09/2008. The Hattrick Team feels it better reflects what the Economy section is about.
: Economist staff, a no longer existing type of staff, had been renamed Accountants for the same reason.

The Economy page shows your budget for the week and last week's financial status. All your income and expenses during the week are stacked and drawn from your account each weekend. The exact time varies by league - check the league events for when it occurs in your league.

Revenues and Expenses
You need money to run your club. You pay the expenses and collect the income of the week every weekend.

For example, if you buy a player from the transfer list for 5 000 € the player is accessible immediately, the "temporary costs" entry is increased by 5 000 € but you still have the money in your account, for the time being. This also goes for income from attendance, which is paid a week after the entry (payment for cup matches is delayed by half a week).

There's nothing to keep you from spending money even if your balance is zero. You have a line of credit for 500 000 €, but you're going to have to pay some heavy interest on this borrowed money. If you run up debts amounting to 500 000 € you'll be given a bankruptcy warning and, as a result, you'll have severely limited access to Hattrick. If you do not return your balance to within the 500 000 € debt limit within two weeks of your bankruptcy warning, you may be forced to leave the Hattrick series system! However, long before you reach this limit your interest costs will have become insurmountable, so stay clear of that limit!

Besides, you won't be allowed to purchase players if this will push your debts over 200 000 €. When you're about to place a bid the program will take into consideration other bids you've placed, and what's been offered for your own players listed for transfer.

In other words, think twice before you get yourself into debt!

Weekly Income / expenditure
Every week, during the updates, the following things occur:

Expenses
*Costs for the squad: Each week you pay a wage for each player you have in your team. If you're lucky to have an international player on your squad, and he plays for his national team this week, you get a partial wages refund, which is deducted from this figure.

*Additional staff: Your staff cost 1 800 € per person per week.

*Arena costs: The running and servicing of your arena. Note that this is a sum you pay every week regardless of whether you're at home or away.

*Investments in your youth squad: None, small, medium or large for the youth squad, or the wages of your scouts for the youth academy.

*Interest costs: If you have debts you pay 5% interest rate on the borrowed money.

*Temporary costs: Besides the purchasing of players, changing coaches, firing specialists, transfer-listing players, moving up youth squad players etc. costs money. All the week's one-off costs are accumulated here.

Income
*Income from sponsors: Keep good relations with your sponsors and it will earn you a higher income.

*Income from attendance: Have you played a home match last round and/or had a match mid week? For details on how attendance income is calculated, look at the information at Arena.

*Temporary income: Some things give you extra income during the week, particularly player sales, but also membership fees from new supporters (they pay 30 € a person) may come in.

End Of Season Income
At the end of every season the league authorities hand out a bonus if their club has done well enough. Money is handed out to first, second, third, and fourth place. How much depends on your place and how high up you are in the league system:

+End of season bonus

There is also a 10 000 € bonus paid for having the top scorer in a series. The money is paid out after the last match of the season. If two players tie for this award, both current owners of the players will receive the award; however, if two of your own players tie, then you only receive one prize.

The budget and all matters concerning finances can be found at "Finances" caption on "Your Club" menu.

Promotion bonus
The teams also agreed that a special bonus should be given to those who manage to promote their team to a higher level. If your team is automatically promoted from Level 6 or above, you get a higher bonus than teams that reach the higher division after playing a qualifying game. In league levels 7 and below, both the winners and runners-up of odd-numbered divisions gain automatic promotion without having to play a qualifying match. Even-numbered divisions after this level will have only the winners promote without qualification. The runners-up in these leagues will stay in their leagues. In divisions where two teams are promoted, the winner gets the higher bonus, while the runner up gets the lower bonus. When only one team is promoted, the winner gets the higher bonus, while the runner up doesn't get any bonus payment. If your team loses a qualifying game and stays in the lower division, no bonus at all is paid out. All promoted teams will also get a 10% supporter bonus (similarly, relegated teams will lose 10% of their supporters).

Here is an example of how the bonus system may look:

Club A wins its Division IV and is promoted without qualification to Division III. They will get 240 000 € in prize money for winning its Division IV and 170 000 € in bonus money for being promoted without qualification. Total: 410 000 €.

__NOTOC__
The experience concept simulates that a player has managed to learn things which improve his performance aside from the main skills.<br>
Players get their experience playing matches and need 28.571 (28 + 4/7) experience points to gain an experience level. One point is the amount that can be gained in a league match.<br>
Experience gain is minute-based (see this quote from HT-Tjecken on global forum).

Cup matches give about double the amount of experience compared to leaguegames, and Hattrick Masters matches give slightly more than this amount. International friendlies give around 1/5 experience compared to a league game and domestic friendlies give the players about half the experience an International friendly does.<br>
National Team matches give roughly triple that of league games, though this number methodically increases as the World Cup progresses through each round. National Team friendlies are roughly equal to the experience amount of a League game.

Experience points: <br>

Special Events
The following Special events can be caused through experience:
* Experienced wingers and forwards can score using their experience.
* Inexperienced defenders and inner midfielders can give their opponents an extra chance.
* Experience is particularly important for the Team captain
* Very important or dramatic matches might mean that inexperienced players lose their grip on the game. This gets worse the more they lack experience. Only the team with the lowest amount of experience will be subject to this during a match.

The influence of player's experience
As a player becomes more experienced he will play better in games. The experience bonus gives increases the players' skill contributions by a flat amount. E.g. a player with passable skill and passable experience will contribute the same as an otherwise equal player with solid skill and disastrous experience.

Formula: XP influence: = log(experience) * 4/3

Experience is also an important factor in calculating formation experience.

The experience of the player has a bigger impact on a penalty shoot-out only than on a regular penalty kick (or set pieces chance) in the match.

Coach-to-be experience calculation
Can I see how many experience points a player has earned? As with regular skills Experience has sublevels, so getting the precise value is not possible. One way to find an estimate is to look at a player's performance history and use the experience points gained by match type table above to calculate the amount of points since his last level up. Or, if the player has a minimum of inadequate experience and has been in your club for at least 16 weeks there is a process for Coach-to-be (see).
Spokesperson is a specialist who works as the club's ambassador. He improves mood of Sponsors, and, to a much smaller degree, mood of fans, thereby resulting in an increase in fan club size and sponsor income.

This specialist was removed as a staff member 26.10.2015, instead all teams gained the effect of a level 5 spokesperson for free.

If your team is performing very poorly, a spokesperson can only help you to reduce the decreases in fan club size and sponsor income.

Spokesperson Theories
Spokesperson works on sponsors mood, helping with half a level in sponsors mood for each spokesperson's level. The marker raises very quickly week after week, with a gross growth (multiplied by the spokesperson level) of 0.33 for the first week and 0.15 for the second. This means that, based upon season, we can deduce an average advantage of 0.48 per week.

Remember that the sponsor's revenue calculation formula is:

Revenue = 27 200 € + variable * 185

where variable is the rounded value of
fanclub members * sponsors mood / square [series number] * 14.85

:<small>Note that sponsors mood is a decimal number, even if we can see only the integer.</small>

Putting together the data, we can now calculte the number of fans needed per series to cover the costs of a better spokesperson with a higher sponsors revenue (not considering at all the arena revenues).

Note that the level 1 spokesperson is NEVER profitable. So the advice is to get at least level 2 or none is better.

In table below, fanclub size nedeed to cover spokespersons cost (by series):
Series 1 || 251 || 502 || 1 003 || 2 007

How to read the table: A club with 2 700 fans in series 4 can hire a level 5 spokesperson, but is less profitable that a level 4. Anyway a level 3 is not the right choice! Why? Because we can easly calculate the money loss with a too low level of spèokesperson or with no spokesperson at all (maybe reserving slot to other staff).

After identifying the optimal level, use this formula:

Missed weekly money = [0.48 * Spokesperson level * fanclub number * 185 / square [series number] * 14.85 ] - spokesperson wage

Example: following the model of the series 4 team with 2 700 fans, using no spokesperson the money lost is 19 000 € per week (31k minus 12k for a level 4 spokesperson's wage). It's 300 000 € per season only from sponsors and not considering stadium collect!

External Links
Researches suggest that optimal number of spokespersons is around 1 per 250 fans. But it might be useful to temporarily hire more than optimal at the start of the season to recover sponsor mood quicker from the reset.

Hiring the right staff members is important to your team and to the development of the club. Your staff may not be found in the dugout on match day, but they will work with the players during the week or fulfill other key tasks for the club. They complement the head coach and for you as manager it is crucial to make sure you have the right people on the team.

You can hire one specialists of each type available for your club. Specialists have different effects based on their ability and salary.
They efficiently manage different team functions and, once hired, have a weekly salary, paid during the economic update.

Contracts
The staff page where you hire or fire specialists can be found on the "The Club" page. When hiring a specialist you'll give them a contract of a given length. The contract length can be from 1 to 16 weeks and determines the weekly cost of the specialist, going cheaper the longer the contract. A contract can be set up for automatic renewal, giving the specialist a new contract of a selectable length once the old contract expires. To set up/remove renewals or fire a staff member, click on that specialist's name or picture to get to his individual page.

Firing a specialist will result in a cost and also cannot be done in the first or last week of his contract. The cost of firing a specialist is equal to the savings you've had compared to a shorter contract times two.<br>Example: You have a 16 week contract for a level 4 specialist that you'd like to break in its 10th week. The cost up until now has been 10*8 160 € = 81 600 €, a 10 week contract would have cost you 10*11 040 € = 110 400 €. The cost of firing the specialist is 2*(110 400 € - 81 600 €) = <u>57 600 €</u>
Specialist Categories
You can employ up to 4 staff members in total. You may employ up to 2 Assistant Coaches at a time. For all other staff categories your board will only allow one staff member at a time.

Any contribution you get from hiring a staff member is applied as a static bonus on top of an existing team stat. This bonus will always be visible to you. But since team stats are dynamic to begin with, and are influenced by different factors, the final effect achieved with a hired staff member can be hard to predict exactly. What you can be sure of is that you are moving the needle in the right direction. Staff members with higher skill levels naturally contribute a higher bonus effect. These bonuses are linear - which means that each additional skill level always contributes as much again as the skill level before.

Assistant Coach
* Improves outfield player form.
* Improves outfield player training.
* Increases injury risk (side effect).

The training speed bonus given by Assistant Coaches is added to your team's existing training efficiency. Make sure you have a good regular coach before considering spending much money on assistant coaches. But when you do have a competent head coach, hiring a number of skilled Assistant Coaches could be a good strategy for any team focused on training.

: This bonus is added as a multiplier on top of the existing training efficiency as decided by the coaching skill of your head coach, your chosen training intensity, and your chosen stamina share. As an example, if you had a solid coach, 100 % training intensity, and 10 % stamina share, the following training speeds would be achieved for a 22 year old formidable playmaker:

:: No assistant coach: ~7 weeks until next level
:: Level 5 skill coach: ~6 weeks until next level
:: Level 10 skill coach: ~5 weeks until next level

You can hire up to two Assistant Coaches at a time. If you have several Assistant Coaches, their combined skill levels will create one single bonus. If you have several Assistant Coach, their bonuses are combined and applied only once. This means a level 4 Assistant Coach contributes exactly the same as two level 2 Assistant Coaches would. To make things easier, you will always see the actual bonus given by your current backroom staff or any staff you plan to hire written out on the Staff page.

Alongside the effects on training, Assistant Coaches also have two side effects. Form is increased, but so is injury risk.

Injury risk is calculated as the average number of injuries per game, not per player but per team. The base value is 0.4 injuries per match for your team. With a level 5 Medic this can be reduced to 0.025. Assistant Coaches contribute to a higher injury risk by 0.025 injuries per match per skill level hired. This means a level 5 Assistant Coach increases your base injury risk to 0.525 injuries per match (0.15 with a level 5 Medic), and two level 5 Assistant Coaches gives you a base injury risk of 0.65 injuries per match (0.275 with a Level 5 Medic).

As already mentioned, on the positive side Assistant Coaches do increase the background form of your players. If you have a full 10 skill levels of Assistant Coaches, background form will increase by 0.5 levels. In other words, two level 5 Assistant Coaches contribute half as much to form as a level 5 Form Coach would.

Comparison with old system pre season 55
In the old system, Assistant Coaches could add between 18 % (for a single coach) and 30 % (for 10 coaches) to the training speed that you already got from your head coach. In the new system, with no Assistant Coaches, you will still train 9 % faster than you would have with no extra help in the old system. An extra 2.5 % is then added per extra skill level hired. To reach the same training speed as with 10 assistant coaches in the old system, about 8 skill levels are needed in total. With 10 skill levels, you can reach 34 % faster training than with no extra help in the old system.

Medic
Having a Medic on the team will:
* Reduces injury risk.
* Decreases the recovery time for injured players.

Medics are responsible for the overall physical condition of your players. This means they work both proactively to prevent injuries as well as with the rehabilitation of any players that do get injured.

Every time your team plays a match, there is a certain injury risk for your players. Having a Medic in the backroom staff will reduce the base injury risk for your team. A level 5 Medic will reduce the base injury risk from 0.4 injuries per match to 0.025, but be aware that other factors - such as hiring Assistant Coaches - may increase the risk.

If a player experiences an injury, Medics also help speed up their recovery. In Hattrick, injuries show up with an estimated recovery time in weeks. During every daily update, the player recovers a little bit on his way to 90 % health (when he can play again, but is still bruised) and then, ultimately, to 100 % health, when he has no sign of the injury left.

Spokesperson
The spokesperson was removed as a staff member in Season 60, every team now gains the benefit of a level 5 spokesperson as described below.

*Improves sponsor mood.
*Minor boost to supporter mood.

Hiring a spokesperson will improve the team's popularity with fans as well as sponsors, which in turn has an effect on sponsor income and ticket sales. Hiring a spokesperson is mainly a financial decision - make sure that the salary is covered by increased revenue for the club.
align=left | 5
+0.5 || +2.5 || 24 000 €

The Spokesperson gives a bonus to both fan and sponsor mood. The bonus is not immediate, but rather raises the target value towards which fan and sponsor mood move. After changing to a Spokesperson of a different level, it should take up to 8 weeks for the change to fully take effect.

The bonus per level is +0.1 for fan mood and +0.5 for sponsor mood. This means a level 5 Spokesperson will, over time, increase your fan mood by half a step and sponsor mood by two and a half steps.

A Spokesperson will always have a positive impact on your income. Higher fan mood will increase ticket sales and higher sponsor mood will increase sponsorship payments. The bigger effect tends to come through ticket sales, but this can vary a lot since many other factors impact fan mood and ticket sales. The bonus to sponsor income is more reliable.

Sports psychologist
Sports psychologist:
* Improves team confidence.
* Gives minor boost to team spirit.

The mental game is almost as important as the physical one. Hiring a Sports Psychologist can really help you create a winning atmosphere. This staff member will help you maintain your team's confidence in their own game as well as help nurture the team spirit of the whole squad.

Team spirit is driven by the team attitude you set for previous games. Immediately after a game team spirit may get a boost or drop lower, depending on which team attitude was used. But at each daily update the team spirit then tends to normalise, which means if it is high then it will slowly drop and if it is low then it will slowly recover. A Sports Psychologist can help you improve this process by raising the base value toward which your team spirit moves naturally. A higher base value means that high team spirit values will fall slower and low ones will rise faster. The bonus received is one tenth of a level per skill level employed. This means a level 5 Sports Psychologist will increase your team spirit base value by half a level of team spirit.

Your team's confidence is also helped by the Sports Psychologist. Confidence is primarily driven by your team results and how many goals you've scored. But the Sports Psychologist adds a bonus to confidence as well. This bonus equals one full level of confidence for a Level 5 Sports Psychologist, or one fifth of a level of confidence per skill level employed.

Contrary to popular belief, if your team gains very high levels of confidence, psychologists DO NOT lower team confidence towards the optimum level. Your players will remain overconfident.

Form Coach
The team's Form Coach:
* Keeps the squad match fit and motivated.

Player performance is not only down to technical skills and physical stamina. Players tend to go in and out of form, and many factors can influence this, not least mental ones.

The Form Coach specialises in getting the most out of the player material you have. Hiring a form coach is not a quick fix, neither is the effect permanent - but for some teams and some situations it can be a good solution.

The form of a player is a measure of how close he is to be performing at his maximum potential. The value you see on the player is the current form, and this is what is used in the match simulation. However, the current form always has a trend and the value the form is moving toward is called the background form. By using a Form Coach you will receive a bonus to your background form updates. Whenever background form is recalculated (this happens on average every second week) each skill level of the Form Coach will bump the background form higher by 0.2 levels. This means a level 5 Form Coach will add a whole level of background form to your player when the update is applied. Please note that background form can still drop, but that your average over time will be higher.

Financial Director
Hiring a Financial Director:
* Increases the amount of funds a Club can keep in cash, before the Board intervenes.
* Increases also the speed with which the Board will release money to the manager when cash runs below the cash reserve limit established by the Board.

The Financial Director increases the Club’s economic flexibility and is especially useful for Clubs that have a strong financial position. Normally, the Board sets a limit to how much money is at the managers direct disposal for things such as salaries, player transfer fees, or arena projects. The rest of the cash will be held by the Board and will only be released by the Board when the Board deems it necessary.

The Financial Director will grant the manager the possibility to invest saved funds into the squad more aggressively than the Board would otherwise have agreed to. Having a Financial Director on the team may be necessary for teams that save up for a few seasons to make an expensive run for the Cup or league title.
Tactical assistant
The team's tactical assistant:
* Gives the manager more individual orders in matches
* Allows access to the style of play bar in the match lineup

Every manager can give his team up to 5 extra orders in a match, with each level of tactical coach a manager gains one extra order. With a level 5 tactical assistant you have access to a total of 10 match orders, but the restriction of maximum 3 substitutions still apply.

With style of play you can tune how offensive/defensive you'd like your team to play, with a basis in your coach's tactical affinity. A defensively minded coach is considered to be 100% defensive, an offensive coach is 100% offensive and the neutral coach is 0% of either. With each tactical assistant level you can move up to 20 percentage points away from your coach's affinity.<br>Example: With a level 3 tactical assistant you have a flexibility of moving 60 percentage points on the bar, giving you the option to set your style of play somewhere within these levels:
Historical Development
Former Staffing Types were:

* Physiotherapists: Reduce odds of player injury;
* Doctors: Heals injured players;
* Goalkeeper Coaches: Improved goalkeeper form and goalkeeping training;
* Accountants: Allowed you to earn interest on your money if you had a large surplus (over €4 million) in the bank and reduced debts if you were far into the red.

Until season 42 you could have up to 244 staff member of each of the 7 types, with negative consequences for every member above 10. Before season 43, Accountant were removed and Goalkeeping Coaches merged with Assistant Coaches.
After season 43 is introduced a limit of 10 specialists of each type and of 30 staff member for all, with still an effects of each additional specialist slightly lower than the effects of the one before him. Last reform was implemented in season 55, reintroducing the Financial Director from Accountants and renaming Doctor to Medic and Physiotherapist to Form Coach.

Comparison with the old staff system
The old staff system affected similar areas of the game as this new system does, but it was designed in such a way that there was rarely any incentive for users to change the composition of their staff or for different clubs to choose different strategies. Most users would choose one optimal configuration of their staff and leave it unchanged for years.

In the new system we wanted to introduce meaningful choices. You need to decide on a focus for your new staff team, since it is no longer possible to hire every category of staff. Cost has also become a more important factor since picking the highest skilled staff member every time will become very expensive indeed - it is more likely that the best choice for your team will be a combination of higher and lower skilled staff members.

There are a few important things to note as we switch to the new staff system:

Find your focus

:The old system was easy to optimise, and most users that had any knowledge about the game would choose a similar setup and then practically never change it. The new system should reward more active choices by making the optimal choice differ more between clubs.

:There is now a total limit of 5 staff members that can be employed at any given time. This means you can't hire staff from every available category, but will need to choose a focus for your team. The advantage of the new staff system is that more powerful combinations are now possible.

Staff levels and salaries

:Staff members are no longer anonymous units to add or dispose of at will. They have names, they have individual skill levels (between 1 and 5), and they have at least a semblance of labour rights. They are also able to do more for your team than ever before.

:In the old system, each extra staff member was paid the same as the one before, but the more you hired in a certain category the less each additional one would contribute. Many times, the first staff member hired would alone contribute as much as the next 7 or 8 combined.

:In the new system, the effects of a new staff member are clearly described and each additional skill level will contribute as much as the one before. The twist is that instead the salary rises, so this now becomes the factor to watch out for. You can progress faster - but will it be worth it?

:A level 5 staff member will have 5 times the effect of a level 1 staff member, which is great, but he will at the same time be 16 times as expensive. Lower skilled staff are definitely more cost-effective, but hiring the best can still pay off. Finding a balance for your team becomes an important consideration.

New range of modifiers

:The new staff system does not replace the old one from the same starting point. Even with no staff in a certain category, your team will do better now than it did in the old system when no staff were hired in that same category. For example, your injury risk will be lower today with no Medic than it was without any Physios in the old system. This "free" effect varies a litte between categories, but is typically just short of the effect you would get from the first staff member in any category. Another way to approach this change is to say that it is now more about choosing an edge for your team and less about covering the necessary bases. The floor has been raised, and so has the roof - for those areas that you do choose to focus on, higher overall modifiers are possible in the new system than in the old. A consequence of this is also that the bonuses achieved by teams may differ more as well.

{{editorial
author = HT-Johan
text =<br>It’s time to uncover Hattrick’s new live match viewer, our biggest project so far this year and something we’ve been very excited to work on. Our aim has been to completely redesign the experience of following a match live in Hattrick - making the match itself more suspenseful and thrilling, providing interesting and updated stats about the game while it is happening, and giving you new ways to interact with your fellow users through our new match chat system. It’s all wrapped up in a new, more colourful and modern design, and we hope you will love it as much as we do.

The match report is the heart of Hattrick and for almost 20 years, this pure slow-moving text match report has had a surprisingly consistent appeal to our users and a lot of us love to follow games as they happen on the web site, even if many of us nowadays also complement this with the mobile app or mobile notifications. Over the years, we’ve always resisted calls to develop a 3D viewer for Hattrick, simply because it would have to be a purely aesthetic layer on top of the match engine and as such, we think users would get bored with it quickly. If we decided to revamp the match experience, it would have to be in a way that played up to Hattrick’s strengths as a game, not trying to pretend it is something it is not.

New live commentary

That’s why for our new take on the match viewer, we decided to redesign the text reports themselves. We’ve added a completely new live commentary, which is unique to the live experience, and in which events are reported as they happen, second by second. These events are threaded, meaning that events that start out the same way don’t necessarily end the same way - you won’t know for sure how an event ends until the second it is over.

We’ve also added a completely new class of events, where commentators talk about the context of the current game - for example: how the team’s title chances will be affected by a win or a loss, or if a certain player has reached a personal milestone during the game. This a whole new set of information, which is not critical enough to put into a post-game match report but which can be highly interesting while watching it live. We’ve actively tried to give the live experience a better flow, with fewer dead periods, where nothing at all happens for long stretches of time.

Many events have been tweaked and reworked, to make them work more like they would in a live situation. For example, reports on injuries from early in the game may become available later on, as doctors have had a chance to make a first estimate. And exact attendance won’t be known when a game starts, only later in the match.

The more current, more concentrated match reports will stay in place as they are - they will fill the role of a post-game summary, just as today. The live match report will be richer and more informative, but not saved for more than a week after the match is played.

Stoppage time

We’ve made match times a little more fluid, by adding stoppage time in Hattrick. When a match has been very eventful, the referee may add an additional few minutes of playing time at the end of the match! And there is a small chance that events that would normally have happened during regular time happens during stoppage time instead. The amount of stoppage time depends on how eventful a match has been, of course, and will be indicated by the referee close to the end of regular time.

Showing all goal chances

Until now, not all chances that happen during a match have necessarily been reported. In the new match viewer, we will be more generous on this front and show them all. For users who do not follow the match live, complete information about goal chances will of course also be available also in the post-game report, as part of the match statistics.

The pitch viewer

The visual centrepiece of the new live viewer is the perspective view of the football pitch, in which you see both teams, the players and the current formations displayed at all times. There are also dynamic graphics for weather, current subs on the bench and a highlight that goes on to show where an ongoing attack is taking place. The pitch has three tabs, so that you can switch between the view of your formation and views of your sector ratings and player ratings, respectively. These stats are all live, so that you can see in real time how the teams match up with each other.

Player cards and team cards

While inside the live viewer, clicking a team name or a player name brings up the details of the clicked entity directly inside the viewer, rather than leading to the static player page on the regular site. The cards will have the updated information from inside the game, for example when it comes to goal statistics or injuries. This will give you a quick way to double-check the status of your players or the stats of your opponents, without leaving the viewer.

Following other games

As before, you can of course follow a lot of other games while using the live viewer. We have added a new feature from the overview page, which suggests games that may be of interest to you, be that an important National Team match for your home league or other matches from your series. When you open a match in the match viewer, and leave the overview, you will have the current scores from all your followed games available in your scoreboard, directly above the pitch viewer.

The chat

The chat lets you talk to other managers who are online at the same time as you. Chats are linked to the active match or competition. While you can always read what has been written in the chat of a match you follow, you can only write in a chat if your team is part of that competition. For your series, all matches share the same chat, so you can talk to the other managers in your series (but not with managers in other series of the same division). In the Cup, in the first rounds each match has a separate chat, whereas in the final rounds of the Cup the chat is opened up to all remaining teams and managers. In private tournaments, all participants can talk with other. The web chat rooms are synched with the mobile chat rooms, so a discussion started in one place can continue in the other, and vice versa.

How the launch will work

A lot of work has been going into the new match viewer, and this is especially true for everything that has to do with the new event texts - they have all been written from scratch and this has led to massive amounts of work from our fantastic LAs, who have translated the new events to their languages. But it has not been possible for all LA teams to complete this in time for the first release, which is why we have made the launch of each language version flexible.

When you visit the new match viewer, you will automatically get your normal language if this is already available. If it is not, you will be offered to choose to use English or any other available language you prefer. This will be a local setting in the live viewer only, so you keep using your normal language on the rest of the site. When your local language is ready for the live viewer as well, it will automatically kick in, without any action needed on your part.

If you prefer to NOT use another language temporarily, you will still be able to use the live viewer, but it will be using the regular “post-game” type events instead of the new live events.}}

text =<br>In this roadmap update, we will tell you more about our big project for the spring, a big reimagination of the live experience in Hattrick. We will also fill you in on a bunch of smaller things we are working on, and give an update on how the in-game economy is doing.

Last year, we made big changes to player contributions and to the staff systems, tweaking existing mechanics in order to make the game more balanced and the in-game economy more stable. Since then, we have done a lot of work on the Hattrick backend, rewriting the software that handles the Hattrick game simulation and moving it to a modern development environment. For users, this change should not be noticeable at all in the short term, but it makes a big difference for our dev team since it becomes a lot easier to work with the heart of the Hattrick code - easier to build new features, easier to chase and find bugs, easier to train new developers and less frustration for everyone that works near the Hattrick match engine.

As always when we have been “stuck” in the back end for long, we are eager to start working on something that will make a difference to users. And the big project we have for Hattrick this spring is something that we have been eager to do for a long time, and which has now become a lot more workable to dig into. We are working on a big reimagination of the live match experience in Hattrick, finding ways to make it more action-filled, suspenseful, informative and interactive. In other words, more fun and more worthy of spending an hour or two following your matches and others. (And no, we are not building a 3D viewer - we prefer to think of this as “Hattrick as it should have been done from the start!")

The new match viewer will be more visual and have a “real time” feel to a much higher degree than the current viewer. Our guiding principle is to make the most out of the relevant information in the game, finding new ways to present stuff that happens in the game that haven’t been reported before. We also want to create a stronger sense of context between your game and what goes on around it - in your league, in the Cup, in the stats tables. We have a vision for this that we won’t complete with the first version of this new viewer, but we think that what we will manage to release in early summer will be really cool and a big improvement on what we have today.

We have a few smaller projects as well.

Starting next season we are also removing the last effects of the “old” pullback system, and these effects will now be completely covered by the new and more predictable match dynamics system. Please refer to the manual for more details on how teams will now adapt their offensive play if they grab or extend a decisive lead.

A tiny change to be implemented some weeks into the season is that we will again show skill and rating levels above Divine. One level above Divine will be spelled out Divine (+), two levels Divine (++), and three or more levels will be written Divine (+3), Divine (+4), et cetera.

The mentorship system has shown tremendous efficiency in keeping new users engaged in Hattrick, so we are planning a new update to the mentor system to keep both mentors and mentees more motivated to be involved.

We will also make a few improvements in the National Team systems, working from a wish list that we asked the National Team managers to vote on. The key changes here will be that NT coaches will no longer be old players, instead all NTs have access to the same coach values and to the new Tactical Assistant features that launched last summer. This will be more fair. We are also creating a match order window, four hours before kickoff in which any changes to the squad will be invisible to anyone beside the NT manager. This will be a big relief especially for NT managers in time zones where it is often night when NT matches are played. We are also adding live ratings to NT games and add an automatic live link for all users to promote their NT when they are playing a game.

Finally, an update on the changes we made last year and the economy. The balance between team incomes and team expenses have now stabilized, which is very much an effect of the new Staff system. We believe that this, together with the change in training speeds from the Staff reform, will have a positive impact on the transfer market over time. So, for now, we are content with what we are seeing. No new changes are planned for the economy, but as always we continue to monitor to what is going on with it. }}

text =<br>At the start of this new season we will introduce the Tactical Assistant, a new staff type that will increase the tactical options for your team. This already announced update will be combined with a partial redesign of the staff system itself, including the introduction of staff contracts that varies in length and cost. The main goal of the staff redesign has been to improve the economy of the clubs in Hattrick, which has proved quite necessary, while at the same time fixing some concrete problems with the existing staff system.

As we have monitored and analysed the in-game economy of Hattrick in recent months, we’ve seen two worrying trends. One have been that the costs of teams have increased beyond what their incomes can support, something that can in large part be explained by overspending on staff members. Secondly, we also see a weak transfer market, caused in part by an “inflation” of skilled players put up for sale.

As we prepared to introduce the new Tactical Assistant, we decided this would be a good time to also address some of those economic issues while at the same fixing a few problems that have been around with the new staff system since the start.

Removal of the Spokesperson

The first step is that we remove the staff member Spokesperson altogether. This is a staff type that basically exchanges money for more money, and as such he does not offer any interesting choices for the manager. If you have a Spokesperson and don’t want to lose the effect, don’t worry: All teams will now have a bonus comparable to having a Level 5 Spokesperson automatically applied to their teams. This will happen immediately at the start of the season.

New contract system for all Staff

During this season, we will also move over to a new system for hiring and firing Staff members. The system will go live in week 8, but it will be possible to view and prepare your choices ahead of week 8, starting immediately.

In the new system, when you hire a staff member you also commit to a certain contract length, from 1 to 16 weeks. A contract of 8 weeks will cost the same as today per Staff level. Shorter contracts will come with a higher salary per week, while longer contracts come with a discount. It will be possible to break contracts ahead of time, but then you have to pay a severance cost amounting to 25% of the remaining contract cost. It will also be possible to set contracts for auto-renewal, for those staffers you know you want to keep for a long time.

The contracts will provide a strategic choice not only on who to hire, but on how long to hire them for. The expensive shorter term contracts will prevent some undue benefits that can come from micro-managing staff contracts week by week. Changing staff every week will still be possible to do, but it will be much more expensive.

Addition of the Tactical Assistant

The Tactical Assistant (TA) will be available to hire from the start of the new season. He will have the following effects:

<u>Extra sub/orders (1 per level)</u><br>
Instead of the maximum five custom orders per game (that can be used for substitutions, changed player behaviour or position swaps) you can now get one extra order per level of your Tactical Assistant, up to a maximum of 10 orders with a level 5 tactical assistant. Of course, having a TA does not change the fact that you may only make 3 substitutions per game.

<u>Style of play</u><br>
This allows you to change the style of play for the match. This variable was previously only decided by the type of coach you have (offensive, defensive or neutral). The new style of play ranges between 100% defensive (current defensive coach) and 100% offensive (current offensive coach) with neutral being the middle point. You'll be able to set this for each match in the match order interface where you'll get 20% percentage point flexibility per level of your tactical assistant from your coach's style of play. For example, if you have a defensive coach, and also a level 5 tactical assistant, you now have an available range of Style of Play that spans from 100 % Defensive to Neutral. If you have a neutral coach along with a level 5 tactical assistant your available range will span from Neutral half way to both Defensive (50%) and Offensive (50%).

You need to have your Tactical Assistant on the payroll at the time of the match. In case you have placed match orders with a TA, then fired him or have had the contract end without renewing it, the match will be simulated without the extra sub/orders and using the default Style of play that is default to your current coach.

Restriction on Financial Directors

Surprisingly, quite a few teams that have no need for Financial Directors have still been employing them. This has been a big drag on the economy especially of lower level teams. For this reason we will now restrict the ability of hiring a Financial Director to teams that either have money in their Board Reserves or that have at least £10m in cash. If you have a Financial Director on staff, and don’t meet these criteria, you will not be able to renew it when the new contract system kicks in on Week 8 of the new season.

Removal of the third Assistant Coach and the 5th Staff slot

The final thing that will happen on Week 8 is that we will remove the option to have three Assistant Coaches. At the same time, we slightly increase the training speed of the remaining two to 3.5% instead of 3.2% per level.

As a consequence of this, and also of the removal of the Spokesperson from the Staff options, we will also reduce the number of slots available for staff members from 5 to 4. That means from Week 8, you may only have 4 staff members working for you.

Transition to the new system

In week 8, the existing contract system will end and all staff members needs to have new contracts signed in the new system. Any staff member you have not given a new contract will leave.

To make the transition to the new system as smooth as possible, we are making the new interface visible already at the start of the new season. You will be able to decide ahead of time what staff members and what contract lengths you will want when week 8 comes around, and you will be able to see what costs they will incur once the system is live. Until week 8, you can make as many changes to those decisions as you wish - it won’t affect your team until then. But use the time well so you don’t run the risk of losing a staff member that you want to keep in the club.}}

text =<br>The code for the new match engine, which was presented in our last editorial, has now run in Tournaments for a few weeks and we have evaluated it there along with your feedback on the changes. Based on this, we will make some changes for the final version, which will go live for all matches at the start of next season.

Keeper: Still no changes

Defenders: Instead of increasing the Playmaking contribution of offensive Defenders by 21 %, it will now be increased by just 14 %.

Wing Backs: We have made some small changes to the contributions of Wing Backs that go to the middle or defensively, which affects their playmaking and winger contributions. These have both increased a little to fit better with the other player contributions.

Wingers: The wing contribution of normal and offensive Wingers will decrease by 10 % instead of the previously announced 13 % and 14 %, respectively. The other winger positions keep the changes announced in our editorial.

Midfielders: Nothing have changed

Forwards: We have decided to take a step back here and not implement the change to side forwards, since the doubled contribution on the side proved unfriendly to the match engine balance. Side forwards will have the same behaviour as before. However, we will make a small adjustment to forwards toward wing. They will get a small boost on winger on their close side and also a small passing contribution on their far side, which was missing in the old version.

To sum up, with these adjustments we have wanted to tone down the changes to some individual player positions, which were probably too strong. But we wanted to take care not to lose the positive effects we saw on game balance and the overall match engine performance, and we feel we have achieved this now.

We will update the manual with the relative contributions very soon. Until then, you will be able to use this table as a reference to better understand how player contributions will work starting next season.}}

text =<br>In our roadmap from one month ago we announced upcoming changes to the match engine. Here are more details regarding how we plan to achieve a Hattrick that is better balanced and which allows users a wider range of competitive tactics and formations.

We have stated three main goals for the current work on the match simulation engine. We want to create more balanced tactics, ensuring that users can use a wider range of tactics and formations and still be competitive. We want to strive for more "realistic" results in matches, which means fewer games that end with very improbable results. And we want to further boost transparency in the game, giving users better information and overall better tools to make good decisions for their teams. The following changes all play into this in different ways.

Smarter pullback

The pullback mechanic serves a purpose in that it can keep a game tight, even if one team is considerably stronger. But it also has flaws, mainly that the pullback is seen as a little unpredictable and too punishing when it does happen. Pullback is the only effect in Hattrick that happens entirely outside the managers control and, while that can certainly be frustrating, it is also highly realistic that the game includes this kind of dynamic. As everyone knows, the psychology of how a match evolves is a hugely important and interesting part of football. We decided to reduce the impact of pullback, rather than remove it, but to also make it a little smarter and more predictable.

When a pullback is triggered, it will now reduce your attack by 15% (instead of 20%) while adding an extra 10% to defense (instead of, as before, 15%).

A team will now automatically stop pulling back if the match is equalised. Also, pullback will never happen when you have given the "Match of the Season" instruction. Also, if your team is in a National Cup final, a World Cup final or a Hattrick Masters final, pullbacks won't happen either.

Match dynamics

We are also introducing a separate mechanic, which we call match dynamics. There are gradual, non-random adaptations that the team makes to the way the play, and which are affected by what’s happening on the pitch.

The first match dynamic effect we are adding is similar to pullback and in essence replaces some of the random effect we remove, with a predictable effect. Whenever a team is two goals ahead, the team will naturally play more carefully, losing 6.25% of their attack value and instead gaining 5% of defence value. If the lead is extended to three goals, the effect is doubled, if the lead is four goals, the effect is tripled, and so on.

This match dynamic effect has the same limits as the updated pullback event, that is it won’t happen when a team is going for "Match of the Season", neither when it is playing in a National Cup final, a World Cup final or a Hattrick Masters final.

Having players react to the context of a game is a completely new idea in Hattrick, but one we want to continue building on. In this first version, we take some of the existing effects from the pullback event and use it to create a match dynamic around goals difference while the game is played. But there are many other things we can add into this later on, such as reactions to fans, to cards, to time remaining in a game, and so on. This is a first step and we decided to limit ourselves to the known territory of pullbacks for now, but more changes is likely to come in future seasons as we evaluate these first changes.

Player contributions reform

The biggest single change is the adjustments we make to player contributions, how efficiently a player in a certain position contributions with his individual skills to the overall team effort. Some positions and skill combinations have been overpowered and needs to be dialed down a bit, others get a small boost. One main theme is that the power of the wing attack is reduced at the expense of the central attack. Overall, we reduce the offensive effectiveness of teams a little bit, which also has good effects for the game as a whole. We have seen that with the new player contributions, fewer goals are scored but also that more games on average end with the better team as the winner. This is in line with our wish for fewer improbable match outcomes.

<u>Wingers</u>

The offensive winger is very powerful today, and also the individual tactic that is overwhelmingly most often used for wingers. We reduce the power of the offensive winger, making the other tactical options for wingers more viable.

:<u>Winger (Normal)</u><br>
:Passing increase 16% to central attack
:Winger reduction 13% to side attack

:<u>Winder (Defensive)</u><br>
:Winger reduction 20% to side attack

:<u>Winger (Offensive)</u><br>
:Playmaking reduction 20% to midfield
:Defense reduction 20% to central defence
:Winger reduction 14% to side attack

:<u>Winger (Toward Middle)</u><br>
:Playmaking increase 10% to midfield
:Passing increase 25% to side attack
:Winger increase 7% to side attack

<u>Defenders</u>

It is a little too hard today to build a credible side defence. This will be made a little easier now. We also boost the midfield contribution of the offensive defender, a tactical option that is today underused.

:<u>Central Defender (Normal)</u><br>
:No change

:<u>Central Defender (Offensive)</u><br>
:Playmaking increase 21% to midfield

:<u>Central Defender (Toward Wing)</u><br>
:Defending reduction 9% to central defence
:Defending increase 6% to side defence

:<u>Wing Back (Normal)</u><br>
:Defending reduction 8% to central defence

<u>Inner Midfielders</u>

All midfielders (except inner midfielders toward wing) will now contribute to central attack through their scoring skills. This opens up for more multi skilled players and new training combinations.

:<u>Inner Midfielder (normal)</u><br>
:Passing increase 5% to central attack
:New scoring contribution to central attack same as 21% of normal forward

:<u>Inner Midfielder (Defense)</u><br>
:Passing reduction of 20% to central and side attacks
:New scoring contribution to central attack same as 12% of normal forward

:<u>Inner Midfielder (Offensive)</u><br>
:Passing increase of 5% to central attack
:Defending reduction of 25% to central defense
:Defending reduction of 25% to side defense
:New scoring contribution to central attack same as 31% of normal forward

:<u>Inner Midfielder (Toward Wing)</u><br>
:Passing increase 6% to central attack

<u>Forwards</u>

Forwards that play normal will also contribute a little bit to playmaking. Forwards toward wing will now only contribute to the one side they are attacking on.

:<u>Forward (Normal)</u><br>
:New playmaking contribution to midfield same as 25% of normal midfielder

:<u>Forward (Toward Wing)</u><br>
:New playmaking contribution to midfield same as 15% of normal midfielder

The update at hand is the biggest change to the match engine in at least five years. Given the size of the changes, it will not be activated in the main Hattrick match engine until Season 60 (the season starting in late October). This upcoming season, Season 59, the new match engine will be used only in the Tournament system. This way, we as developers will get a lot more data to verify that the changes work as we think they do before they are moved to the competitive main game. Also, we hope that getting another season to think about and observe how these changes work will give users ample time to research and prepare for the change. This goes for all the match engine changes: Pullback, match dynamics, and player contributions.

Show all chances

In order to make matches easier to analyse after they have been played, we will make show the statistics for all chances in the games that have been played. Today, some chances are "hidden" - they happen as part of the match simulation, but lead to nothing and are not reported. These formerly hidden chances will still not appear in your match report, but after the game you will be able to see an overview of all chances that were created in the game and also where they happened. This makes a closer analysis of your tactics much easier.

Heads Up: New Tactical Coach staff member

The system with offensive and defensive coaches have always been present in Hattrick, but that doesn't mean that it is the best possible mechanic. Almost every competitive manager will opt for the neutral, which makes this a rather uninteresting choice. Also, attaching a tactical option to an expensive coach means there is very little flexibility to make quick changes. Meanwhile, we have seen in National Teams that it is fun and interesting when teams have the ability to switch more easily between offensive or defensive tactics.

What we will do in Hattrick is to complement the coaches we have with a new Tactical Coach staff member. Having a coach with a certain style will still be possible, but teams with a Tactical Coach will have the option to choose any defensive or offensive orientation, regardless of the preferred style of the coach. Also, a Tactical Coach will open up more Individual orders for the team, one extra slot per level.

The Tactical Coach will also only be introduced at the start of Season 60, in late October, at the same time the new match engine goes live.}}

{{editorial
text =<br>The match engine is in focus on the development roadmap for Hattrick. More balanced tactics and less extreme results are two things that managers can look forward to. Other than that we can also look forward to plenty of new features for our mobile apps, including the much desired forum support. We are also working on a new tournament format which will be exclusive to Supporters.

The two general goals of all our recent development have been to improve mobile access to the game and to improve the competitive structure of the game, to ensure that Hattrick is a game where every match, and every decision, counts. These continue to be key ambitions for us, but now we would like to add a new focal point for our development, and that is to start looking at how we can improve the quality of the match simulation itself.

<u>Match engine improvements</u>

1. More balanced tactics. No tactic should ever become so powerful that it becomes an obvious choice. Today, there are some examples of this, and the most common example of this being the power of wing attack versus the power of central attack. We will make a series of changes, some small and others more considerable, that will open up more possibilities for teams to express themselves through tactics and training. Details of this will follow in a separate announcement before the start of next season.

2. More realistic results. Hattrick is essentially a game of probabilities, a dice game in which you work to improve your chances, but where chance always plays a role. This is key to making the game fun and interesting. "Any team can win the match, but the best team almost always wins the series". Even so, with time, we feel that as teams and skills have progressed, the general perception of how matches play out have changed for the worse. It is more common today than let's say 10 years ago to feel that a match result was "too random" or just "inexplicable". The reason for this is not any change in the match engine, but it is caused by how the game world has evolved. The average age of teams in Hattrick is getting quite high, and as teams mature they also get more powerful, which means more and more teams cluster around very high average ratings. This in itself does not make the game more random, but it does change the dynamic of matches and seems to lead to more extreme results as well. We want to reverse this trend and start a move towards more predictable, "realistic" match outcomes - and also, we think, more fun ones. This will be a careful change that will likely play out as a series of smaller steps over the course of the next several seasons.

3. Better transparency. For some years now, we have tried to "demystify" the game in areas where the mystery no longer serves a purpose (or may even be misleading). The other side of this coin is that we also try to actively explain or even nudge users in the right direction through tutorials, suggesting recommended lineups for newbies, the new mentoring system and so on. We will continue in this direction. One example is that we will start showing all events during a match (today some missed goal events do not show in match reports).

<u>Smartphone apps</u>

The mobile apps have been received very well by users. We can see our mobile traffic increasing every week, and we are getting a surprising number of new signups through the apps - it seems more users are finding Hattrick simply because the apps are out there. Here are a few things lined up for the official Hattrick apps:

:1. A social layer will be added, which will allow you to access to your HT-mails from the apps as well as reading and writing on the forum
:2. We are adding more push notifications: New bids on players you are buying or selling, warning when you haven't booked a friendly, and Reminders (which is a Supporter feature)
:3. Support for a few other Supporter features as well
:4. We are improving support for youth academies, making it possible to start your academy as well as search for and join series inside the app
:5. Finally, we are also introducing instant matches to mobile, making it possible to create them or accept invitations on the go

<u>Off-season event for Supporters</u>

The Cup system released last summer has been a huge success. We can very clearly see that it has increased the likelihood that users stay active and in the game through out the season. We are working on something completely new along these lines, this time it will be an exclusive tournament cup event for all our Supporters, to take place in the off-season. This will be a different experience in many ways - it will be more intensive than our regular Cups, completely international, and offer plenty of fun surprises for all participants along the way. The tournament will of course not give Supporters any in-game advantages in regular Hattrick, but we hope it will be a great experience anyway.

<u>Improved messaging</u>

We are also working on ways to improve the communication between users on the site. We think some aspects of the Hattrick site need to be modernised, and the messaging capabilities is one of these. We want to make it easier to find your friends when they are online and easier to communicate in general, and we hope to show some features along these lines later in the year as well - at the earliest this autumn.

<u>Future roadmaps</u>

Since we took Hattrick back in the autumn of 2013, we may have scaled down the number of developers, but at the same time we have managed to become a lot more productive. There are simply more new features being developed now than there have been in a long time, and the main reason for this is that we are able to stay focused on doing things that we think will actually matter, both for users and for us as a business.

We think this is mainly good, but one consequence is that we now spend less time on the forums. This means less opportunity to discuss what we are working on and less time brainstorming new ideas directly with users. We still follow the forums and we learn a lot from them about what the game needs, but we think that, in the long run, we serve you better by talking less about new features and spending more time building them.

The flip side of this is that we feel more confident nowadays about what we can get done, and that we can get it done on time. It also means we are more comfortable sharing our plans with you. So from now on, we will want to keep you all in the loop by presenting an updated roadmap at the start of every new season.

These roadmap editorials really are the best way for you to listen in on where Hattrick is going. This is where we will officially announce concrete new features that we are working on and this is where we will preview important upcoming changes to the match engine. If a feature is in here, it is our absolute intention to deliver on it. When a new roadmap is released, we will be around to talk about it in the forums of course, but don't expect concrete news on our development plans between roadmaps, because then we will be busy working on what we already promised.

That is it for now. We look forward to the next year of Hattrick development! Did you know Hattrick turns 18 years old this August? Thank you for your time and for being here in Hattrick with us.}}

text =<br>It's time again to review and reveal our roadmap for Hattrick. As we have now had a few major releases, such as the new Staff system and the new Cup system, that deal with game's functionality, we have now decided to once and for all solve the issue of mobile access to Hattrick. Our main project for the autumn will be a new mobile web for Hattrick, as well as apps for platforms such as iOS and Android. All free of course.

Over the last few years it has become increasingly clear that the mobile web is becoming very important and that we are fast approaching a time when more people will access the Internet from phones and tablets rather than from desktop computers. We know this from our own personal experience, of course, but we can also see it clearly on the Hattrick site statistics: mobile traffic keeps increasing, overall desktop traffic keeps going down. And while our existing website works pretty well in a smartphone browser, it is very far from being designed with mobile in mind. That is something we want to change in the coming months.

First of all, we are not changing the existing website at all, we are building a new site (which replaces the current m.hattrick.org) which will be just another way to access the same game. But this site will be optimised for small screens and touch interface, and it will also be translated into proper downloadable apps for all the major smartphone platforms. We always wanted Hattrick to be a game that was easy to access and play when you had a spare minute, and today that means we have to our own apps.

You won't get all the functionality of the main website in the mobile interface, at least not in the first version. We already know the forums, National Teams and some other more community related stuff will be left out for starters. But it will have more functionality than the existing Hattrick app, and everything you need to actually manage your team will be there.

So why now, and what does this mean for existing mobile apps such as Hattrick's own for iOS and Android, or the various CHPP apps?

Well, the reason we are doing it now is that it is more needed than ever, and we can only conclude that the mobile user experience is simply not good enough in Hattrick today. We need to start over with a new design that has only mobile in mind. Hattrick's own apps for iOS and Android will be discontinued and replaced with the new apps, of course. We will start with iOS and Android, but other platforms may follow. And as for CHPP, we will continue to support and encourage our third party developers to do speciality apps for both mobile and desktop.

So when can you expect to see more of this new Hattrick Mobile? We plan to launch at the end of November.

For the past month, we have been heavy at work with programming the basic functionality for the new platform. In October, we are starting to implement the new design, and in early November testing will start. So far, things are proceeding according to plan, but of course we don't want to give any certain dates yet. It is our our humble expectation, however, that you will be able to sit through a nice family holiday meal at the end of December, exercising total control of your Hattrick team from your smartphone, without needing to leave the table between main course and dessert. Just as it should be!

Stay tuned.
text =<br>At the start of next season, we will introduce a completely redesigned Cup system for Hattrick. With the new Cups, our primary aim is to give the experience of a meaningful Cup run to more teams than today. In addition to a new setup for the National Cups, we are also introducing Divisional Cups for the lower divisions.

One of the most interesting challenges for any Hattrick manager is to balance your squad and tactics between the demands of your league matches, the necessity of training players, and the excitement of making a good Cup run. And while we love the Cups in Hattrick, it has been rather clear to us for a long time that they could be improved. For one thing, they are limited in size which means not every team even gets the chance to start the Cup. And even for the vast majority of the teams that do qualify to participate in the Cup, their Cup journey will end almost immediately. This is a natural consequence of the design constraints we have for any Cup in Hattrick where we simultaneously want to include as many teams as possible AND be able to finish the Cup over the course of just one season, and with just one Cup round per week.

With the new Cup system, we wanted to preserve the good things about the current National Cups - such as the benefits to any team that is able to stay in the Cup for a long time and the feeling of having one main competition for the whole league that will really produce a worthy Cup champion. But we also wanted to make sure that for the majority of teams, the Cup was about something more than just providing cannon fodder to the handful of elite teams that have a realistic chance of actually winning the whole thing. For this reason, we are making major changes to how Cups work in Hattrick.

National Cup and Divisional Cups

The main change is that we are dividing the National Cup competitions into two categories. In leagues that have up to six divisions, there will still only be the National Cup to consider, but for the first time every team in the league system will be able to enter the National Cup. In larger leagues, we will add a new Divisional Cup for the divisions below Division 6 which teams in these lower divisions will play instead. In the Divisional Cup you will only play against other teams of the same Division, and the champion at the end of season will be named the Divisional Cup champion of that specific Division only.

Challenger Cups

Both the National Cup and the Divisional Cup will be accompanied by secondary and tertiary cups. These are lower ranked Cups for the teams that lose in the main cup. This means that losing one or two games will not be the end of your Cup experience for the season. You will be guaranteed at least three Cup matches per season, but if you lose one of the early rounds in the main Cup you will drop down to a Cup that has, perhaps, a more suitable level of competition. You will still have the chance to win a Cup trophy, just a more modest one.

The Challenger Cup system will consist of four different competitions, each with its own unique trophies, and a separate winner will be named in each one.

Cups that fit the Divisional Structure

Today, it can sometimes be quite hard to figure out whether you will qualify for next season's Cup or not. This is because the number of teams in the Cups doesn't correspond very well to how many teams there are in the Hattrick league system as a whole, or even the divisions inside it. As a result we have never been able to include every last team in a league into the National Cup - it is always a question of using the Cup rank to decide where to draw the line between those that gets to participate and those that don't. With this redesign, we are changing this so that the Cups fit better into the league and division sizes. The division you play in will decide which Cup you participate in, and it will be the same for every team in your division. To fill up the National Cup we will instead add a number of temporary "neighbourhood" teams; low skilled teams that will enter the Cup at the lowest rank and thus get to play the highest ranked teams through the first few rounds. Competition-wise, this is not very different to how the Cup works today.

More rounds to be played at neutral ground

In the new Cup system, matches will be played on neutral ground at an earlier stage of the Cup. Before this only happened in the last two rounds of the Cup (the semi-finals and finals), now it will happen in the last 6 rounds of the Cup. We want to lessen the impact of the home advantage in the Cup, since it already plays too large a role in deciding the Cup winners and this advantage would be likely to become even more important when the Cup becomes more compact.

Advantages of the new system

Our main aim in this redesign has been to give more teams the chance to have a meaningful Cup experience. We think this is achieved in several ways: More teams get to play in the Cup to start with, and they have a much higher likelihood of staying in their Cup beyond the first and second rounds. For the top teams, the National Cup will become a little more compact and competitive - but the rewards at the end of the tunnel will also be higher. For those that get eliminated early, there will a second and even third chance to win a national trophy.

Another advantage is that we will boost the importance of achieving league promotion. Being promoted may guarantee your place in a more attractive Cup or, if you are already qualified for the National Cup, getting promoted will at least mean a better rank in the Cup.

A few teams may today be actively choosing to stay in very low divisions in order to maximise their chances of getting far in the Cup. This strategy will have to change a little, as now you will at least need to play in Division 6 to participate in the National Cup. To some extent, this may lead to a more balanced competition in lower leagues as these overpowered teams finally may choose to promote to higher divisions.

Cup hierarchy

One very important aspect in designing the Cups has been that we want to make sure that teams will want to stay in the tougher Cups as long as possible. We don't want to see any teams tactically dropping out of the main cup in order to secure easy prize money in a lower ranked secondary or tertiary cup. The lesser cups should be seen as a good alternative to being eliminated altogether, but as long as you can, it should be preferable to fight it out in the main competition.

This will be achieved in two ways: using economic rewards (prize money and attendance) and using team spirit effects.

Prize Money & Attendance

As already announced, prize money will be substantially increased for the Cup as well as the League, starting next season. As part of the Cup redesign, we will also start awarding prize money at earlier stages of the Cup. This makes the incentive for progressing clearer. Progressing far in the main national cup will be a lot more rewarding than it is today. For the Challenger cups, prize money will be significantly lower, but still attractive enough to want to stay in the Cup rather than just playing friendlies. Crowd attendance will be the same as today in the main Cups, and similar to international friendlies in the lesser ones. For the full list of prize money, please check out the Manual.

Team Spirit Effects

Only Cup games in the National and Divisional Cups will affect your team spirit. When playing in any of the lesser Cups, team spirit will work as in friendlies - that is to say, you won't be able to use Play It Cool or Match of the Season to manage your future team spirit.}}

text =<br>Today we release Supporter Diamond, a new Supporter package for the more hardcore Hattrick users out there. It is our most complete Supporter subscription, as it includes Platinum, all of our Gears products, as well as the new Replay feature, which is exclusive to Diamond and which lets you check what would have happened if your match had been simulated ten more times.

Supporter Diamond is a subscription that not only includes all the features of Platinum, but also, for the first time, gives you a chance to use all the pay-per-use features of Hattrick for no extra charge. Diamond is a bit pricier than other Supporter packages
, so it may not be for everyone - but we think this could be a very attractive package for the more hardcore users, especially those of you that already use Tournaments and our other Gears features a lot.

One new tool that is exclusive to Diamond is the Replay feature. Replay can be accessed after any match you have played and it will show you what would have happened if the exact game you just played would have been simulated ten more times, using exactly the same starting point as the match you just played. Did you just get unusually lucky, or would your tactic have worked if you got to play the same match over again? Now there will be a way to know.

Like any other other Supporter package, Diamond is a subscription. And while you subscribe to it, you get access to the following:

All features of Supporter Platinum

You will be a full Platinum supporter. This means you get a second team if you so wish, along with unlimited Federation slots, unlimited Supporter slots and more. If you are already a Supporter, your existing Supporter time will be used to upgrade your Supporter subscription, as it happens for instance with the upgrade from Gold to Platinum. Once your Diamond subscription runs out, you will be back to your previous Supporter subscription as long as you still have enough Supporter time in your account. For further information, please read question number 5 from the Shop FAQ: "Is it possible to upgrade my current Supporter subscription?".

Free access to Tournaments

Create your own tournaments with friends or just join other Tournaments that fetches your interest. You can take part in up to 10 Tournaments at a time, without using any Credits for your own participation.

Ladders

Take part in up to 25 ladders at a time. Try to get to the top of a National, Regional or Federation ladder and stay there - it’s not easy! Like with Tournaments, there is of course no need to pay Credits for your participation.

Rename Players

It is now possible to Rename Players on your team, and as a Diamond user you can do this at no extra charge. Other than this, you follow the same naming rules as any other user.

Create Player Nickname

Giving your players a Nickname is also something that is included in the Diamond package. A player can get a new nickname once per season.

Player Styling and Makeover

Our extensive tools for changing the player avatars is fully available to Diamond supporters. Fix hair, noses, skin colour and other things to make the team just the way you want it. This feature is unlimited, and you can change as often as you please.

Event-o-Matic Custom Match Reports

With custom match reports, you create a trigger for an event that will happen during an upcoming game. It is a nice way to express what you feel about a certain game or opponent, and of course, this can also be used at no extra charge as part of the Diamond package. One event per match is allowed.

Replay (10 matches)

This new feature is exclusive to Supporter Diamond. After any match you play, you can check what would have happened if the game had been simulated another ten times using exactly the same starting lineup, tactics and other factors. Replay actually simulates the full match ten times and shows what the scores would have been. This is not about making a statistical analysis about what the ideal match result should have been, but rather a way to let users - for the first time ever - peek into what could have happened if that same game had been simulated again, using the exact same starting point all over again.

We hope you enjoy the new package!}}
