Youth Squad and Players
You can acquire a new player each week by moving a youth squad player up into the senior squad. The better the youth squad activities are, the better the chances of the youth squad player succeeding. You don't have any choice in what kind of youth squad player you'll get, apart from choosing between a goalkeeper or an outfield player. Don't count on receiving top-notch players each week. Most youth squad players you try out won't qualify for your team, or be good enough to sell to other managers. If you have one or two of them per season either moving directly up into the team, or able to be sold, you should be satisfied - think about how things work in reality!

Many clubs put a lot of money into their youth squad, but there are also those who spend less money or none at all, buying reinforcements from the transfer lists instead. However, if you do decide to build up your youth squad structure, be prepared that it might take some time before your investment pays off with reasonably able youth squad pulls. You may find there's little point in moving youth squad players up if your youth squad status is "poor", for instance.

Every week you're allowed to make a large (€20 000), medium (€10 000), or small (€5 000) investment in your youth squad. The effect of these levels of investment can be seen on the Youth Squad Improvements page. If you don't change the amount, the amount invested the previous week will be drawn from your bank balance after the next weekly economic update.

You're only able to promote one youth squad player per week. Every time you promote a youth squad player, it will cost the club €2 000. If you are lucky, the Youth Pull will then be able to join your team, or be sold.

Information on your youth squad activities can be found in the "Your club" menu, under "The Club" caption. This is also where you enter the amount of money you want invested into the youth squad, and where you move them up from, each week.

A theory is that the distribution of each skill of a youth pull is an exponential (or a Poisson, if we prefer to remain into discrete distributions), with the level of the youth setup influencing the parameter of the exponential distribution.

Another theory is to pull Goalkeepers whilst your youth squad is lower than solid. The reason behind this is that only one skill is ever relevant, rather than all seven. A passable keeper will usually sell, whilst a outfielder with passable stamina, and 6 poor skills will not.

Plumbers and Golfers
Shockingly, even excellent youth squads may produce, week by week, suprisingly pathetic youth pulls. As a matter of fact, even most inadequate youth pulls (17 year old goalkeepers or multiskilled players are an exception) are usually sent directly to the golf course or the local pub to spend the rest of their adult lives as misrable losers. The luckier ones end up chasing young blondes around said pub.

However, not all of Hattrick's drop-outs turn to become lazy bums. Many disastrous players have foreseen the future failure and prepared an altenative job. These players TSI sum usually does not mount much above 40, and most (And not very rarely all) of their skills hits "wretched" at most. These players are called by the HT-players by their possible alternative jobs - Plumbers, Carpenters, Politicians and so forth...

As in real life, in Hattrick's world each team has its own individual name. The name of the team is its prime distinguish sign of other teams in Hattrick, as it is much easier to remember a name of a team, such as AC Milan or Manchester United, than an ID number (e.g. 340592).
Unique Team Names
In Hattrick's world, not all teams stick to a formula for names.

Special team names gives a unique flavour to Hattrick, and makes the game more enjoyable and personalised.

In the English speaking leagues, bad puns are always a favourite, as are names involvong popular animals such as monkeys.

*Israel - Maccabi Schnitzel (340592); flotzim (153810) ["farts" in Hebrew].

You're only able to promote one youth squad player per week. If you don't change the amount, the amount invested the previous week will be drawn from your bank balance after the next weekly economic update.

Shockingly, even excellent youth squads may produce, week by week, suprisingly pathetic youth pulls. As a matter of fact, even "Inadequate" (with pherhaps the exception of young inad. keepers) pulls are usually sent directly to the golf course or the local pub to spend the rest of their adult lives as misrable losers. The luckier ones end up chasing young blondes around said pub.

However, not all of Hattrick's drop-outs turn to become lazy bums. Many disastrous players have foreseen the future failure and prepared an altenative job. These playes TSI sum usually does not mount much above 40, and most (And not very rarely rarly all) of their skills hits "wretched" at most. There needs to be a balance... However, If you can't take it that you're ruthlessly being editted, then don't write here. (it's somewhere in the helpfile)

Took out all references to the word junior squad....the English version of HT doesn't use that word.

Just wanted to mark about useless youth pulls - I wrote down in the begining that even "inadquate" pulls would be thrown away (unless pherhaps if we're dealing with young keepers) and I still hold that opinion. I challenge the moderation to "weak" under the "Plumbers and Golfers" section.
Unless if you prove me wrong here (I'm not phanatic, it shouldn't be that hard really) I see no reason for me not to change it back to 'inad.' and I ask those who want to change it to 'weak' - please explain why not inad. with the exception of young keepers.

You're only able to promote one youth squad player per week. If you don't change the amount, the amount invested the previous week will be drawn from your bank balance after the next weekly economic update.

Plumbers
Shockingly, even excellent youth squads may produce, week by week, suprisingly pathetic youth pulls. As a matter of fact, even "inadequate" pulls (pherhaps except young Goalkeepers) are usually sent directly to the gulf course or the local pub to spend the rest of their adult lives as misrable losers.

However, not all of Hattrick's drop-outs turn to become lazy bums. Many disastrous players have foreseen the future failure and prepared an altenative job. These playes TSI sum usually does not mount much above 40, and most (And not very rarely rarly all) of their skills hits "wretched" at most.

Just Y: Player Specialties - Checked.

The Squad
A team is the virtual football team one owns and manages in Hattrick. It consists of a number of virtual football players, usually between 20 and 30 (maximum 50). The manager chooses a formation with 11 of these players for each game, plus 5 substitutes.
If the 50-players limit is exceeded, Training is lost for that week. Please take note that the Coach is considered a player, as he may well play (and often does!)

Each player has 8 basic skills, which can be improved through training, and decline with age. On top of these skills, there are three additional factors that affect the performance of a player, namely form, experience and specialties.

A player also has three personality characteristics, agreeability, honesty and aggressiveness.

Skills
Stamina
This skill is absolutely vital for any players who use playmaking. If a player does not have enough stamina, a serious drop in their playmaking contribution will be noticed, particularly during the second half of matches.

In addition to this main use, it is somewhat important for other players (see Special Event) and Pressing.

Playmaking
This is the most important skill for all midfielders, especially the inner ones. It is also used by defensive forwards and offensive defenders. Offensive wingbacks use a tiny bit as well. As noted above, this skill is used in conjunction with stamina.

Almost every successful team needs good playmakers or else the team won't have a lot of ball possession, which will lead to fewer scoring opportunities. The only exception are teams who specialize in using the Counter Attack tactic.

Winger
The ability to create scoring opportunities by advancing down the sides. This is obviously most useful for wingers, although Wingbacks also profit from it. A forward played towards the wing will also benefit a lot from this skill.

Scoring
The ball is supposed to go into the net. Most important ability for forwards. Any player with good scoring skill combined with good set pieces skill can score on a long shot special event.

Goalkeeping
This is ability that goalkeepers use (and they need it a lot!) However, as it is the only skill they need, they rarely have any ability in other areas.

Passing
The scorer gets the credit, but the player giving him the decisive pass is just as important. Both forwards and midfielders, including wingers, profit from being good at this. Passing is also very important for use with tactics. It helps to compute ratings for Counter Attack, Attack on Wings and Attack in the Middle.

Inner midfielders, and forwards contribute to the central attack rating by their passing ability. Wingers played offensively, normal or defensively use their passing to contribute to side attacks. There is some debate about the contribution of passing on a winger towards middle.

Defending
The ability to stop opponent's attacks. Unconditionally the most important ability for all types of defenders. Midfielders may also put this ability to good use.

It is also relevant on all players when using the Pressing tactic.

Set pieces
One player is appointed for set pieces. He'll take all free kicks, penalties, and in case of a penalty shoot-out, he'll take the first penalty. In all cases, lots of skill is needed in this area.

There is also the possibility of a long shot Special Event related to set pieces.#

Some of the players in Hattrick have speical abilities, or special skills, that define them from other players. A player may only have one specialy (Head, Technical, Powerful or Unpredictable) that is affected by various factors: weather, tactics and even opposite players.

Injury and Suspension
Injuries
It won't matter how good a player really is if he's not on form or is injured.

Sometimes players get injured. If this is the case, the injury, unless very slight, will put them on the treatment table for a couple of games. The risk of injuries increases as the team increases the intensity of training. Older players take longer to heal than young ones. You should also remember that the injury times stated are only estimates. A +1 injury could heal within 3 days with the assistance of doctors, but equally if your 35 year old star forward has a week-long injury, it might take him 10 or 11 days to get fit again.

For more information, see Injury

Yellow and red cards
Players may get booked or sent off during games. Two bookings during a match will automatically lead to the player being sent off. Bookings and Sending - Offs during competitive games eventually lead to a suspensions. A player will be suspended for the next match if he is sent off, or if he has accumulated 3 bookings during a season. This is shown by a red card symbol on the player page. You can also see how many yellow cards have been received so far. At the end of the season all cards are cleared.

Whilst a player can receive cards during friendly matches, they have no other effects than those seen during the game.

Highly aggressive players will tend to be booked more often than other players. Especially if they're also dishonest or lacking in experience.
