Latvian league like all new leagues started with 168 teams in spring of 2002. There are rumours in circulation that the first Latvian who started playing [[Hattrick]] was [[spooky4malin]], who found Hattrick after the New Year's party in 2002. Latvia expanded to 680 teams in December, 2002. After that it has expanded twice - division V was added in summer of 2003, and division VI was added in September, 2004.
Time to time in local Hattrick comunity are taking place some partys like [[Hattrick.lv]] annual opening event.

If anyone knows of veritable websites that could be used as sources for any section, but preferrably the History section, please send them my way, post them here, or post them on the talk page of the wikipedia article. The article has come a long way, but without more sources (especially for the History section, but for every section really) there's no way it will ever be FA material. hey, good luck on the russian version. i've been categorizing a lot of pages to make things a little easier to navigate and was wondering if you'd be able to categorize the russian translations with a russian wiki category of sorts. feel free to send me a message, cheers.

I've stopped adding the category tags, the reason i started was the /Ru/ directory doesn't (maybe it does, but I can't read it!) have all the pages listed on the page. of course the purpose of categories is essentially to form a logical grouping of documents, aka if a user wants to see all 'club' pages or all 'country' pages. ideally, there'd be a russian subdomain and then the categories could be in russian (aka russian for 'category:clubs' etc), but i wanted to make the most general category for the russian pages. i feel that every page on a wiki should be categorized and it seemed to be the most logical grouping, as opposed to grouping all the language versions of a page into the same english category.

Ru/Translated will work fine, so long as you mark every page in the Russian translation with it. The policy is still a work in progress, so don't necessarily take what's there now to be the final version.

* Even if the titles have the Ru/ prefix in their name, it's easier to have a category which contains all the pages when the time comes to move the pages to a new sub-wiki. Yes, we can look under the list of all articles and select the name of all articles with the Ru/ prefix, but it's easier to have the names in a category which can be used to index the articles. Not to mention it's a better method of finding articles if you're an editor looking to edit within the russian wiki. Also, if it's a template, we can change the template when we want to add new indicators to every page, if the policy is changed in the future. Sorry if I haven't been clear enough about it, but that's the way I see it. Let me know if I'm completely wrong here.

Latvian league like all new leagues started with 168 teams in spring of 2002. There are rumours in circulation that the first Latvian who started playing [[Hattrick]] was [[spooky4malin]], who found Hattrick after the New Year's party in 2002. Latvia expanded to 680 teams in December, 2002. After that it has expanded twice - division V was added in summer of 2003, and division VI was added in September, 2004.
Time to time in local Hattrick comunity are taking place some partys like [[Hattrick.lv]] annual opening event.

==Types of Staff==

There are eight different types of specialist available for your club. They help manage different things and will cost you 1500[[€]] per week. You will pay this during the [[economy]] update, and will also be charged at the time you fire the specialist.

There's no limit to the amount of specialists you can hire, but the effect of every additional specialist is slightly lower than the effect of the first one, which is slightly lower than the effect of the second one and so on...

If you ever have more than ten specialists of the same kind (goalkeeping and assistant coaches are, for this purpose, counted as the same type), problems may occur, possibly causing negative effects. Depending on the exact type of specialist, you could see negative effects on the [[team spirit]] or to your [[economy]] or worst of all a a loss of [[training]]. For every specialist above the first ten, the risk of a negative effect increases.

Some people claim that you can safely have a total of 11 goalkeeping and assistant coaches, however this have been proven to carry with it a risk of losing all training for the week. With the 11th coach adding a tiny fraction of the benefit of the first few coaches, most players agree that the risk far outweighs any potential benefit.

The amount of specialists employed can be checked under "The Club" caption in the "Your Club" menu. This is also where you can hire and fire specialists.

Latvian league like all new leagues started with 168 teams in spring of 2002. There are rumours in circulation that the first Latvian who started playing [[Hattrick]] was [[spooky4malin]], who found Hattrick after the New Year's party in 2002. Latvia expanded to 680 teams in December, 2002. After that it has expanded twice - division V was added in summer of 2003, and division VI was added in September, 2004.

Since the age of 17 he is playing for [[Teika Hackers]]. He is a clear favoutite for Teika Hackers fans and most hated player elsewhere.

== Early life ==
Henrihs started his career in a lower league team [[LB2]] where he was spotted by the scouts of [[Teika Hackers]] and [[FK Jumanji]]. Both teams went on bidding war and finally Henrihs was transfered to Teika Hackers for 1 421 000 Lats (2 842 000 Euros).

== National U20 team ==
At the age of 20 he was included in [[Latvija|Latvian]] U20 team. He made a debut in 02.09.2005 and played a total of 11 games, scoring 3 goals.

== Achievements with Teika Hackers ==
Henrihs has enjoyed most of Teika Hackers success in Latvian league. He joined fairly average III. league team and helped his team to lift 2 league trophies and a [[Latvijas kauss|national cup]]. Next season he helped Teika Hackers to return to [[Virslīga|top division]] and to reach [[Hattrick Masters]] semifinals where he shared 2nd to 6th place in top scorers table with 7 goals.

== Breaking the legs ==
Henrihs is not only a great goal scorer but also an uncompromising team player. His work rate and aggressive tackling gas paid off in some games and he has rarely let down his own team. Most famous incident is match against FK Mayertown (04.02.2006) when Henrihs made a nasty tackle which caused injuries for two highest skilled players in opponent team, which had to leave the field. Henrihs recived only a yellow card, but was later revenged by opponents and also had to leave the pitch.

== Off the field ==
Henrihs has shown his aggressive behaviour both on and off the field. During his teams only season in [[Virslīga]] he did some provoking interviews with national media, including [[Latvian HT Radio]]. He also received a matrial arts diploma just after his team relegated from top division.

You can acquire a new player each week by moving a junior player up into the senior squad. The better the youth squad activities are, the better the chances of the junior player succeeding. You don't have any choice in what kind of junior player you'll get, apart from choosing between a goalkeeper or an outfield player. Don't count on receiving top-notch players each week. Most junior players you try out won't qualify for the team. If you have one or two of them moving directly up into the team you should be satisfied - think about how things work in reality!

Most clubs put a lot of money into their youth squad, but there are also those who spend less money or none at all, buying reinforcements from the transfer lists instead. However, if you do decide to build up your junior player structure, be prepared that it might take some time before your investment pays off with reasonably able juniors. You may find there's little point in moving juniors up if your youth squad status is "poor", for instance.

Every week you're allowed to make a large (20 000 €), medium (10 000 €), or small (5 000 €) investment in your junior squad. Many small investments are more efficient than a few large ones. In other words, it's wise to make long-term plans - if you're willing to invest a lot of future funds into increasing junior player activities, large investments can be a way to get results quickly. If you want to build up a decent structure gradually, without spending too much money, make a small investment each week. The upkeep of the youth squad won't automatically cost you anything, but if you don't make sure of regular funding, the structure will deteriorate quite rapidly. Once the level of the youth squad has dropped, it will take a long time to raise it again. The amount of time required for improvements is discussed in the page on [[Youth_Squad_Improvements|youth squad improvements]].

You're only able to promote one junior player per week. If you don't change the amount, the amount invested the previous week will be drawn.

It'll cost the club 2 000 € to move a junior up.

Information on your youth squad activities can be found in the "Your club" menu, under "The Club" caption. This is also where you enter the amount of money you want invested into the youth squad, and where you move them up from, each week.

A theory is that the distribution of each skill of a youth pull is an exponential (or a Poisson, if we prefer to remain into discrete distributions), with the level of the youth setup influencing the parameter of the exponential distribution.

Another theory is to pull [[Goalkeeper]]s whilst your youth squad is lower than solid. The reason behind this is that only one skill is ever relevant, rather than all seven. A passable keeper will usually sell, whilst a outfielder with passable stamina, and 6 poor skills will not.

===Plumbers and Golfers===

Shockingly, even excellent youth squads may produce, week by week, suprisingly pathetic youth pulls. Many managers complain about their youth squad investment, decrying the level of players they pull as a waste of money, time, effort, and hopes. Even most [[denominations|inadequate]] youth pulls (17 year old [[goalkeeper]]s or [[multi skilled]] players are an exception) are usually sent directly to the [[golf course]] or the [[local pub]] to spend the rest of their adult lives as miserable losers. The luckier ones end up chasing young blondes around said pub.

However, not all of Hattrick's drop-outs turn to become lazy bums. Many [[disastrous]] [[players]] have foreseen the future failure and prepared an altenative job. These players TSI sum usually does not mount much above 40, and most (And not very rarely '''all''') of their skills hits "wretched" at most. These players are called by the HT-players by their possible alternative jobs - Plumbers, Carpenters, Politicians and so forth...

A team is the virtual football team one owns and manages in Hattrick. It consists of a number of virtual football [[players]], usually between 20 and 30 (maximum 50). The manager chooses a [[formation]] with 11 of these players for each game, plus 5 substitutes.

If the 50-players limit is exceeded, [[training]] is lost for that week. Please take note that the [[coach]] is considered a player, as he may well play (and often does!)

Each player has an individual name and ID, along with its current age, and is made up of assorted [[skills]], [[personality]], [[form]], [[experience]] and [[specialties]]. He'll also have an ideal [[:Category:Player_positions|position]], but you'll need to work that out through experience!

[[Form]] is one of the most important characteristics for any player, determining how well he is able to use his [[skills]]. You'll note that a good player who is out of form will often be outperformed by a not so good player at the top of his game.

Some players may not have the greatest abilities, but their knowledge of the game more than makes up for it. Thus, old and experienced players often play much better than their younger, greener colleagues.

==Yellow and Red Cards==

Players may get booked or sent off during games. Two bookings during a match will automatically lead to the player being sent off. Bookings and Sending-Offs during '''competitive''' games eventually lead to a suspensions. A player will be suspended for the next (competitive, cup or league) match if he is sent off, or if he has accumulated 3 bookings during a season. This is shown by a red card symbol on the player page. You can also see how many yellow cards have been received so far. At the end of the season all [[cards]] are cleared.

Whilst a player can receive cards during friendly matches, they have no other effects than those seen during the game.

Highly aggressive players will tend to be booked more often than other players. Especially if they're also dishonest or lacking in experience.

Players who are sent off still receive credit for appearing in the match for training purposes; if a player is sent off in a league match, it is not necessary to also play him in the midweek match.

== Revenues and Expenses ==

You need money to run your [[club]]. You pay the expenses and collect the income of the week every weekend. The exact time varies by league - check the [[Updates|league events]] for when it occurs in your league. The [[Economy]] page shows your budget for this week and last week's financial status. Note that all your [[income]] and [[expenses]] during the week are stacked and drawn from your account each weekend. For example, if you buy a player from the transfer list for 5 000 € the player is accessible immediately, the "temporary costs" entry is increased by 5 000 € but you still have the money in your account, for the time being. This also goes for income from attendance, which is paid a week after the entry (payment for [[cup]] matches is delayed by half a week).

There's nothing to keep you from spending money even if your balance is zero. You have a line of credit for 500 000 €, but you're going to have to pay some heavy interest on this borrowed money. If you run up [[debt]]s amounting to 500 000 € you'll be given a [[bankruptcy]] warning and, as a result, you'll have severely limited access to Hattrick. If you do not return your balance to within the 500 000 € debt limit within one week of your bankruptcy warning, you may be forced to leave the Hattrick series system! However, long before you reach this limit your [[interest]] costs will have become insurmountable, so stay clear of that limit! Also remember that [[economist]]s don't credit interest over 500 000 €, so don't count on them saving you.

Besides, you won't be allowed to purchase [[players]] if this will push your debts over 200 000 €. When you're about to place a bid the program will take into consideration other bids you've placed, and what's been offered for your own players listed for transfer.

In other words, think twice before you get yourself into debt!

== Weekly Income / expenditure ==

Every week, during the [[updates]], the following things occur:

*Income from sponsors: Keep good relations with your sponsors and it will earn you a higher income.

*Income from attendance: Have you played a home match last round and/or had a match mid week? For details on how attendance income is calculated, look at the information at [[Arena]].

*Financial income: Only for those with an [[economist]] on the payroll. (Really you need lots of money in the bank or huge [[debt]]s to profit from hiring an economist). Economists can only help up to the point of bankruptcy, after that you're on your own.

*Temporary income: Some things give you extra income during the week, particularly [[player]] sales, but also membership fees from new [[supporters]] (they pay 30 € a person) may come in.

*Costs for the squad: Each week you pay a [[wages]] for each [[player]] you have in your team. If you're lucky to have an international player on your squad, and he plays for his national team this week, you get a partial wages refund, which is deducted from this figure.

*Additional staff: Your [[staff]] cost 1 500 € per person per week.

*[[Arena]] costs: The running and servicing of your arena. Note that this is a sum you pay every week regardless of whether you're at home or away.

*Investments in your [[Youth|youth squad]]: None, small, medium or large

*Interest costs: Only if you've run up [[debt]]s.

*Temporary costs: Besides the purchasing of players, changing coaches, firing specialists, transferlisting players, moving up youth squad players etc. costs money. All the week's one-off costs are accumulated here.

At the end of every season the league authorities hand out a bonus if their [[club]] has done well enough. Money is handed out to first, second, third, and fourth place. How much depends on your place and how high up you are in the league system:

The teams also agreed that a special bonus should be given to those who manage to promote their team to a higher level. If your team is automatically promoted from Level 6 or above, you get a higher bonus than teams that reach the higher division after playing a qualifying game. In leagues Level 7 and below, both the first and second team of each series are automatically promoted, and there are no qualifying matches. So, in those divisions, the winner gets the higher bonus, while the runner-up gets a little less. If your team loses a qualifying game and stays in the lower division, no bonus at all is paid out. All promoted teams will also get a 10% supporter bonus (similarly, relegated teams will lose 10% of their supporters).

These figures are good to start with, because they give you a rough estimation to start with. For further expansion you can calculate these proportions yourself, but be careful not to base your proportion on the average mentioned at the supporter statistics. When your stadium is full regularly, this average will get pulled towards the proportions your stadium setup has NOW. So base your proportions on all the games where none of the types of seats were full, and calculate the average from these figures. This will give you a proportion that is probably good for your supporters, in your division. Be careful because these proportions vary with weather, meaning you can put a few more terraces and basic seats. A seat must be used a minimum of once each 10 weeks to be profitable. Of course, you can leave this to dusty numbercrunchers and just stick to good ol' 62,5-25-10-2,5 which won't be that far off.

Your stadium is an expensive long-term investment, which will take around two seasons to pay for itself at best. It is generally better to improve your stadium in small steps (say 2,000 to 4,000), and only if you will be able to fill those additional places in the majority of your up-coming matches.

Teams on a bad run may not see home crowds anything as good as the 20x fan-club indicator mentioned often in guides. Your home crowds for league/cup games can be as low as 10x or 15x fan club size if you and your opponent are in low league positions and on bad runs and the weather is poor. This is particularly the case if you are in a low division populated by inactive teams. The often-mentioned upper indicator of 30x fan-club size is much more accurate for successful teams in the upper divisions, where all teams are likely to have large fan clubs, so that the away-team portion of attendance is fully populated.

In [[History#Season_16|Season 16]] the first U20 Hattrick World Cup started with
the 40 top ranking teams. The other 10 teams competed for a minor cup called "[[Emerging Leagues U20 Cup]]" at the same time. România, Sverige, and Norge have proved themselves to have the top U-20 teams, with each country taking home two gold medals. The only other country to win a gold medal is Eesti.

Achievements are a brand new feature introduced on 27/11/2006. The following announcement was made:

Next season will also see the start of a totally new alternative career feature: Achievements.

Unfortunately, the bitter truth is that not everyone can win the cup or the top league in Hattrick, so we think it’s important that there is a possibility to focus on an alternative career. Alternative careers (the more, the merrier!) give the game depth and give everyone a better gaming experience. Some people focus on being the best forward trainer, some focus on collecting flags and other focus on being an active member of the community for example. Now we add yet another career possibility: achievements.

Shortly put, this feature means you’ll get points for different things you’ve achieved in the game. Winning your league or advancing some rounds in the cup, for example, will give you some points, as will receiving a certain amount of stars in a match. Moreover you will also receive points for other things in the game like founding a federation, buying/selling a player, writing a conference post, climbing up the rankings and becoming a National coach. Most achievements will be known, but there will also be some hidden achievements to seek for.

Your achievements will be visible from your menu and your user page. Both the points you’ve achieved and the maximum points you can achieve will be shown.

Achivements is clearly not for everyone, just like collecting flags. It does however provide something fun for some and nothing to someone else.

We had to take a decision about past achievements and we chose this approach for simplicity, time and performance reasons. There would have been billions of rows of data to go through just to get all this. There are some harder/rare achievements that will be awarded retroactive though.

It's the same for everyone even though it might feel bad for those been long in the game. But, Maybe it's time chasing those achievements again? Maybe this will give you and others some fire in the butt to go longer in the Cup than before or even win it? :)

There are many achivements loaded in the game, easy (those you've already seen) and more rare and much harder ones. Give it some time as I'm sure many will see some fun in this thing sooner or later.

The coach is a very important figure in Hattrick, responsible for training speed.

==Abilities of a coach==

===Coach types===

There are three different types of coach: "[[Offensive Coach]]", "[[Defensive Coach]]" or "[[Neutral Coach]]", affecting the teams' performance (and only performance) during the game.

The type of coach that is best for your team will largely depend on your training type. See '''[[Coach tactics]]''' for more information.

Offensive coaches have an attacking nature and therefore stimulate the team to play more offensively. This boosts the teams [[attack ratings]].

Defensive coaches have a defensive nature, and boost the team's [[defence ratings]]. It is often believed they are slightly more effective than offensive coaches

Neutral coaches have no offensive or defensive preference, and therefore boost both the teams attack and defense ratings a little.

A talented coach knows the right methods of training, allowing young players to improve their abilities faster. [[Training]] becomes more effective. The [[Skills#Coach skills / Form / Leadership|skill]] can never be better than excellent.

Even if a coach is good at planning [[training]] activities, he might be a bad [[Leadership|leader]], not inspiring [[players]] to give top performances during [[game]]s. The [[team spirit]] might be spoilt if the coach is a weak leader.

==Changing the coach==
If your coach disappoints you, you can always get a new one. There are two different ways to go:

===Recruit a coach externally===
Recruiting externally basically means that you hire a new coach. However, you first decide how good you want him to be (trainer skill and leadership) and what trainer type you want (one who favours [[Coach tactics#Offensive coach|attack]], [[Coach tactics#Defensive coach|defence]] or is [[Coach tactics#Neutral coach|neutral]]).

Each combination of leadership/trainer skill has a fixed price. Then you "buy" him (he is taken from an unseen pool of unemployed coaches - coaches are not included on the [[transfer list]].

===Use existing player===
This alternative can be somewhat cheaper than the external recruiting - if you have a [[player]] with the right coaching material.

There are a few restrictions: The player's [[experience]] determines how good a coach he can become. Also, the more experienced he is, the lower his price for a certain [[Skills#Coach skills / Form / Leadership|skill]] level. Players keep their [[leadership]] (already known to you) and you do not pay for their leadership - so, if you have a very experienced player with high leadership, this can be a real bargain.

However, to prevent [[daytrading]] of coaches-to-be, we have another restriction: The player must have been in your [[Team|squad]] for a [[season]] (16 weeks) to be eligible to become your coach. While it will still be possible (in principle) to purchase a player in order to make him coach for a little less, it will require more than a season's foresight.

When you hire a new coach, he becomes the coach of your squad (when he arrives, which may take up to a minute after you ordered him) and the old coach stays in the squad (in case you want to keep him as player). If you don't want him, you will have to [[fire]] him. He can never become coach a second time for your team (although he may go to another team eventually). Also, you cannot sell a player who has become coach. This is important, as otherwise people would start trading coaches and that is not the kind of system we want. All new teams get initial coaches who are of equal skill level (weak).

==Level of the coach==
All new coaches of a certain skill level are equal. That is, if you purchase a coach with passable skill, he always becomes "average" passable. There is no "high passable" and "low passable". However, the increase in the coaches performance between levels is, like with regular player skills, non-linear. This means that the gap between a solid coach and an excellent coach is smaller than the gap between a passable coach and a solid coach in terms of the effect of the training, so a high-level coach might not always be the best solution for you. The common consensus on this matter is that a solid coach is both affordable and advisable for most managers. A passable coach with poor [[leadership]] is usually recommended for new managers.

===Skills deterioration===
Coaches will slowly have their leadership skills deteriorate. Deterioration will not start until the coach has been in the club for more than a season. HT's reasoning is a coach that might seem bustling with energy and inspiration when he first arrives, after a few seasons loses some of his "edge". He has simply grown bored with the job.

Finally, once a coach reaches [[disastrous]] leadership (and that would typically take perhaps 10 seasons for a coach starting with solid leadership), the deterioration starts hitting his trainer skills instead of the depleted leadership. Let us underline that the deterioration is very slow, although it will go somewhat faster for coaches with very high leadership, so a solid leader might go down to passable after 1-2 seasons (more likely after 2 seasons or more though).

Players who become coaches have an emergency surgical procedure and if they had any injuries, they are automatically healed!
