[[Alberto Torri]] scovò questo ragazzo in Lombardia il 23 maggio del 2020, mentre le luci dell'alba che tradizionalmente chiudono l'anniversario verdecerchiato apparivano nel cielo del [[Campo 22 Maggio]]. Lo scout lo presentò direttamente al presidente, visto che entrambi erano alla festa, proprio all'ora di chiusura, le 6:31. Il presidente, assonnato e incurante del precedente rifiuto, accettò volentieri il quindicenne, principalmente per il cognome che portava.

La squadra, ancora un cantiere aperto, si ritrovò così in VIII serie, dove si barcamenò durante la stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=145920|RequestedSeason=46}} ottenendo un quinto posto. Durante l'annata successiva però (stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=145920|RequestedSeason=47}}) la compagine cedette e sprofondò all'ottavo posto, facendo così ritorno in IX serie.

Quello che poteva essere un punto di non ritorno segnò però la svolta: nelle tre stagioni successive ({{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=106828|RequestedSeason=48}},{{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=146169|RequestedSeason=49}} e {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=146169|RequestedSeason=50}}) la squadra colse tre secondi posti consecutivi, ottenendo due promozioni e affacciandosi così per la prima volta alla VII serie.

=== La scalata dalla VII alla IV (stagioni 51-56) ===

La squadra affrontò la VII nella stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=67939|RequestedSeason=51}} senza timori reverenziali e si rivelò un rullo compressore: tredici vittorie consecuitve e una sola, indolore, sconfitta all'ultima giornata la portarono alla seconda promozione di fila e ad alzare al cielo il trofeo di VII serie.

Durante la stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=29326|RequestedSeason=52}} la favola assunse i contorni di un miracolo, nel nome del numero 14: 14 vittorie su 14 in campionato, con 78 reti fatte e 23 subite, e 14 punti di distacco dalla seconda classificata consegnarono ''le volpi'' alla storia. Capocannoniere della stagione fu [[Paolo Tonon]], con 20 reti all'attivo. I verdecerchiati raggiunsero inoltre il quinto turno di [[Coppa Italia]], il miglior risultato nella storia della squadra.

Nella stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=5844|RequestedSeason=53}} l'Atletico combattè con onore in una V serie molto ostica, riuscendo ad arrivare quinto e a meritarsi quindi i playout. Lo spareggio contro i '''Pecadores''', però, terminò con un 3-6 {{Matchid|454865994|icon}} che non lasciava spazio a recriminazioni, e la squadra tornò in VI.

La stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=29307|RequestedSeason=54}} fu un'ulteriore prova di forza per i verdecerchiati, che con dodici successi e due pareggi vinsero per la seconda volta la VI serie e tornarono immediatamente in V. La IV serie si dimostrò subito una montagna da scalare, ma la stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=5828|RequestedSeason=57}} terminò con un meritato quarto posto e una salvezza tranquilla, con [[Sergio Rainato]] ancora una vota mattatore della serie.

Nell'annata successiva (stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=5828|RequestedSeason=58}}) successe di tutto: una serie di sconfitte sfortunate portarono la squadra a puntare ai playout, che vennero conquistati con qualche fatica. Nella partita di spareggio {{Matchid|527366484|icon}} contro '''DLR Group''', però, arrivò il colpo di grazia: una partita dominata finì con un 4-4 sfortunatissimo, che, dopo i supplementari a reti inviolate, condusse ai rigori. Le speranze dei verdecerchiatti si schiantarono contro il palo dell'ultimo penalty, lasciando un amaro in bocca che difficilmente sarà dimenticato dai tifosi.

Con la retrocessione in V, complice la delusione della sconfitta ai rigori, il presidente si convinse a dare il via a una radicale rifondazione. Tutti gli eroi delle stagioni precedenti vennero venduti, e si chiese ai tifosi di pazientare per qualche stagione mentre venivano potenziati gli investimenti nel settore giovanile. La situazione economica della squadra, sempre più fiorente, cominciava a far sperare in una nuova alba.

Questo lungo e buio periodo di transizione nella storia della squadra, caratterizzato dallo sviluppo dei giovani, dall'allenamento dei giocatori e dalla creazione di una base economica stabile per il futuro sviluppo, verrà ricordato dai tifosi principalmente come l'era di [[Gino Piccoli]], allenatore straordinario in grado di accettare l'ingrato ruolo di accompagnare la squadra in anni tutt'altro che gloriosi.

=== Un nuovo progetto (stagioni 74-?) ===
La stagione {{Series Table|LeagueLevelUnitID=68381|RequestedSeason=74}} fu quella della svolta. Il club decise che il momento era giunto: le solide strutture economiche e societarie cretaesi negli anni di buio consentivano di tentare una nuova scalata. Si decise di basare tutto lo sviluppo futuro su due talenti grezzi del settore giovanile: [[Augusto Mencherini]] e [[Marzio Fiumi]], che vennero promossi per diventare le future ali titolari della squadra. Il portiere [[Damiano Mezzetti]] fu promosso allenatore, e una nuova fase venne inaugurata dal presidente, per la goia dei tifosi. Non era però ancora il momento di competere. Tuttavia in campionato fu raggiunto un tranquillo terzo posto, con una sconfitta indolore nello spareggio promozione {{Matchid|658421927|icon}}.
