A '''Qualifier''' is a match played during week 15 of a [[season]] during the regular league match date for that season. The match is played to determine what teams will promote to the next league level in their [[country]], and what teams will be relegated to the lower league level.

==Who qualifies?==
Teams ending in 5th or 6th place in every league level of a country except the lowest will play a qualifier match. They will play as the home team in this match. Teams from every league level except the top level that are in 1st place (or 2nd place from league levels 7 and below in larger countries) who do not earn enough points in regular season play to [[auto-promotion|auto-promote]] will play as the away team in these matches. As a result of the home field advantage of the higher level team combined with the superiority of squads in higher league levels, the vast majority of qualifiers are won by the home team, or the team from the higher division.

==What are the advantages of playing a qualifier?==
A qualifier offers many advantages for the home team, enough that some teams even go as far as to aim for 5th place in their league instead of 4th place. 5-5-0 isn't used very much, but it can be useful in [[friendlies]] and is the only way to maximise [[defensive positions]] training.

This formation looks quite strange, and usually will not result in a win. However, it doesn't have a negative effect on training (unlike e.g. 2-6-2). So it can be used by [[defending]], [[playmaking]], [[goalkeeping]] and [[winger]] trainers. It will still generate [[confusion]] during the match.

If you want to tie or lose a match, 5-5-0 can be used to good effect.

== Using 5-5-0 to Get a Tie ==

When playing 5-5-0 with all players defensive, all three [[attack ratings]] will probably be [[disastrous]], thus the chance of scoring a goal by a regular chance is negligible.

If both teams use 5-5-0, don't use any players with a [[speciality]] and make sure a [[player]] with [[disastrous]] [[set pieces]] takes all the free kicks, the chance of any goal being scored is almost zero. In this way a 0-0 result will almost always be the case. This can be useful in a [[friendly cup]] with groups where both teams need a point to advance.

All players that play just for their form can be positioned there where they will play very bad and players that play to receive training can be given an order to make sure the team plays worse. E.g. a [[defensive trainer]] orders all his [[defenders]] to play [[offensive]], makes sure players without [[playmaking]] and with bad [[stamina]] play as [[IM]] and players without wing play as wingers. All midfielders with bad defending can be ordered to play defensive. In this way all ratings are lowered as much as possible without any negative effects for training and player form.

If you decide that in one match [[pressing]] is the only option you can do to avoid losing, 5-5-0 can be a good friend. Just line-up your 10 best [[defenders]] and issue the [[pressing]] order. If you train [[defenders]] this can be the best [[pressing]] skill you ever achieved yet. If you set your [[Winger]]s (can use [[Wingback]]s for this) to play offensive you can even get a chance to win.

He was a great manager of Hattrick, he lived in South Africa and he was manager of the Seleccion Team of his country. A beatiful human and a very important person for HT.

Sir-Maverick-J decribe his dead in the National Conference of South Africa like this:

"As many of you know already, Dylan Talbot aka. Sir-Rondell-Beene passed away on the morning of the 2nd of December. Those of you who knew Dylan may know that he was born with a condition that severely crippled his immune system. The exact name of the condition escapes me at the moment. Shortly after arriving home on holiday to Durban, Dylan fell sick. From my understanding his organs were attacked by a Bacteria that caused all sorts of problems, and eventually led to his death.

Dylan was a very dear friend of mine and I had been friends with him since I was 3 years old. Many of you know him as the alter ego Sir-Rondell-Beene, the very controversial Sir-Rondell-Beene. Dylan loved playing hattrick, that included both the on and off field activities as you all surely know by now. I have lost a great friend and I think the Hattrick community as a whole has lost one of its great characters.

The Legend of the Great Sir-Rondell-Beene will live long in the memory of Hattrick users. Writing this has been an incredibly difficult experience for me, but I felt it was necessary to let you all know what has happened to our cherished friend. In the words of Dylan...

===What is it?===

Norwegian tactic (also called simply "Norway" or "Norge") concentrates on boosting [[midfield]] and/or [[attack]] at expense of [[defence]]. The idea behind this tactics is simple as inequality: 5 > (10-6), meaning: if you'll get 6 out of 10 chances there are in every match, and you will score from at least 5 of them, you will win the match even if your opponent scores from every chance he gets. In other words, if your possesion is big enough to get you 6 chances in a match and your attacks are good enough to convert those chances into goals, you need no defence at all. So if giving up defence will give you such midfield and attacks, then it is a logical thing to do.

===Why is it called "Norwegian?"===

The name of this tactic derives from famous final match (MatchID: 14287675) of [[World Cup]] IV, played on 29.02.2004, in which [[Norge|Norway]] beat [[Sverige|Sweden]] 4-2 (it was the only [[World Cup]] not won by Sweden so far). Norwegian [[National Teams|NT]] coach [[Snylte]] used the following [[line-up]]:

Op 28 September 2003 besloot Mavuba een federatie op te richten. Hoofdzakelijk omdat hij er niks in zag om een forum te hebben dat streng toegekeken werd door Mod's, GM's en HT's. Daarom kwam hij naar Buul met het plan om uit te wijken naar een booreiland tussen Nederland en Engeland in, waar alleen wij de baas over zouden kunnen zijn. De federatie op het eiland Sealand werd al gauw een groot succes, en al snel kwamen er velen bootjes met leden!

Na een korte tijd kreeg de federatie algauw de naam van een slechte federatie, vol met vervelende jongeren. Zo kreeg het eiland in een korte periode oorlog met enkele Mods & GMs, maar ook een Spam-Oorlog met [[OLDER]] (Federatie voor Ouderen). Na een lange tijd van onderhandelingen is de strijd gestaakt, en de vrede met de Mods hersteld.

Sealand staat nu bekend om een leuke gezellige federatie, waar de beste spammers van HT-Nederland en Belgie zich flink uitleven

Inmiddels is Kroesio terug met een nieuw team, '''2e Jeugd''', en daarmee al diverse keren kampioen is geworden, op weg naar het hoge niveau waar hij vroeger als manager actief was.

Ook staat deze user bekend om grappen vooral op sealand, maar er staat er ook nog 1 op het
netvlies gegriefd van een oudjaars avond. Toen nam hij samen met ak47(fabian) het IRC channel
hattrick.nl over. Dit viel niet in smaak en werd hij natuurlijk weer eens gebanned. Hoogtepunt
op sealand is misschien wel de grap van "lisanne" hij poste een forum berichtje met voeg deze
geile webcam chick toe op msn, maar hij was het zelf die typte. Vooral __SuperFly_ was hier
erg de dupe van en kwam met een log op internet. Ook de baby grap viel goed in de smaak en was
zelfs uitgelekt op hattrick.nl waar een discussie los barste en laatste in het rijtje is het
problemen grapje die wat minder goed werd ontvangen.

Daarom kwam hij naar [[User:Buul|Buul]] met het plan om uit te wijken naar een booreiland tussen Nederland en Engeland in, waar alleen wij de baas over zouden kunnen zijn.
De federatie op het eiland [[Sealand]] werd al gauw een groot succes, en al snel kwamen er velen bootjes met leden!

Na een korte tijd kreeg de federatie algauw de naam van een slechte federatie, vol met vervelende jongeren. Zo kreeg het eiland in een korte periode oorlog met enkele Mods & GMs, maar ook een '''Spam-Oorlog''' met '''OLDER''' (Federatie voor Ouderen). Na een lange tijd van onderhandelingen is de strijd gestaakt, en de vrede met de Mods hersteld.

The training scheme you choose determines the formation and tactics you may use effectively to a large extent, as you can only maximise training by using certain formations.

* Scoring trainers can use [[3-4-3]] or [[4-3-3]] or even [[2-5-3]] or [[5-2-3]]. The last two will most likely generate [[confusion]].
* Playmaking trainers can use [[3-5-2]] or [[4-5-1]] or even [[5-5-0]] or [[2-5-3]]. The last two will most likely generate [[confusion]].
* Defence trainers can use [[5-4-1]] or [[5-3-2]] or even [[5-5-0]] or [[5-2-3]]. The last two will most likely generate [[confusion]].

Goalkeeper or wing training allow more formation flexibility.

Of course, it is always possible to use alternative formations, but this will mean you are unable to maximise training for the week.

At all times be sure that you do not have more than 3 players playing on same position, or you'll lose training for the week. E.g. [[3-5-2]] with 2 wingers and one extra inner midfieder is perfectly legal, while [[3-5-2]] with a single winger and 4 inner midfielders will lose you training.

The players may get injured, allowing for one of your substitutes to enter the game. A player assigned "Sub (forward)" will enter the field, should one of your forwards get injured. If you don't have a substitute assigned to a certain position, or if the substitute is injured as well, one of the other substitutes will automatically get selected to play. If you don't have any able substitutes as your regular players get injured, you'll have to continue the game with 10 players. Always remember to name a goalkeeper for the game, if you don't, an outfield player will move to the goalkeeper spot, thereby disrupting your overall tactics. Also remember that you must start your, games with at least 9 players, to avoid a walk over, which will lose you a week's training for all players in your squad, as well as a portion of your club's supporters.

There are also five types of general tactics that you can use. These can be described as a common intention that the team has. All tactics except "Normal" have a benefit and a disadvantage, so choose carefully.

==Penalty takers==
This function only applies under special circumstances. If a cup game or qualifier ends in a draw after extra-time, a penalty shoot-out is held. Before a cup game or a qualifier, you should decide the order of your penalty takers. This can be done with a special orders form under the regular orders list.

Both the player's routine and his skill at set pieces should be taken into consideration. The player least skilled at these abilities should be at the bottom of this list - penalty shoot-outs rarely go on beyond the first 10 penalties. Note that the first penalty taker is always the same as the one taking the set pieces during the regular game. If you change the first name on the special orders form for penalty shoot-outs, this is the same as changing the regular orders form on set pieces. The other 10 penalty takers can only be changed around by using the special orders form.

As for the order of the first 5 penalty takers, it isn't important. All teams start off with five penalties each, and if the game is still drawn after that, it'll proceed with sudden-death penalties – each team taking one penalty each until it's all been decided.

[[Ed Cant]] was promoted one month later than Super Star [[Herman Ife]] by the Vikings, although a truly skilled forward getting caps both in the [[U-20 Team]] and the [[National Team]], he never got to play in a [[World Cup]] match. He was selected in [[Team Canada]] in preparation for the [[World Cup]] in [[Nederland]], meanwhile [[Edmonton Vikings]] sold him to [[Barrington Barons]]. He only played National friendlies and [[Neil Pemberton]] was prefered over him for the [[World Cup]] matches. Following this, [[Ed Cant]] was removed from the National Side. He still was a starter for the Barons and grabbed two [[Top Scorer]] Titles in the [[All Canadian]] in Season 8 & 9. The Barons sold him in Season 13 to a Spanish Club, he spent some time there and is now playing for a Belgian Club.

==Personnal Life==

[[Ed Cant]] didn't get all the success his teammate [[Herman Ife]] had, and some claimed that he lived in Ife's shadow, being unnoticed and ignored. Not much is known of him, he apparently would have settled in Belgium where he married a young model.

==History==

[[Herman Ife]] was promoted in Season 3, as [[Edmonton Vikings]] had joined the highest level of competition in [[Canada]]. One month later, [[Ed Cant]] would be promoted and they would pair up front for a long time within the Vikings Organization. Ife appeared in the first [[U-20 World Cup]] in [[Deutschland]] where he gained a lot of experience, to ultimately join the National side in the third [[World Cup]] in [[Nederland]]. He paired up front with numerous Star players, even though they all left at some point, Ife stayed in the lineup for the next four [[World Cup]]s. At the term of the seventh [[World Cup]] in [[China]], [[Herman Ife]] is turning 30yrs old, with more than a divine experience, and passable leadership. His spot in the [[National Team]] will be harder to keep. Regardless that makes him the most capped HT-player.

==Personal Life==

[[Herman Ife]] quickly got introduced in the 'Star System' of HT-Canada, he was largely publicized and branded as the new SuperStar, even though still under 20yrs old. And he wouldn't hide his overconfidence and cocksure attitude. Club owner [[MattyJ]] blindly bragged about his two forwards up front, predicting glory and fame for both. Although some fishy controversial 'Affair' between Ife's Wife and National Legend [[Brian Baxendale]] (even though still unclear), one can't deny the near-perfect career of [[Herman Ife]] and his overall HT fame. Some say that he will be coaching the [[Edmonton Vikings]] in a couple years.
