They improve the fans' and the sponsors' mood toward the club, thereby resulting in an increase in [[Fans|supporter club]] size and [[Income|sponsor income]]. If your team is performing very poorly, the spokespersons can only help you reduce the decreases in supporter club size and sponsor income.

If you have more than 10 spokespersons, it can cause a severe drop in the [[Mood|sponsor mood]].

Central defender towards wing

Central Defender towards wing is an individual order given to the [[Central_Defender|central defender]].

The defender towards wing gives a higher contribution to the resepective wing defence and less to the central defence. This is purely based on his [[defending]] ability. He also uses some [[wing]] skill to contribute to the wing attack on one side.

Traditionally, CDTW isn't a very common order, but it can be used to compensate for a [[wingback]] who is missing, or played offensively. It is also sometimes a wise move against an opponent who has very high wing-attack ratings, but little central attack.

The contribution of this player in games has recently been changed, but it remains to be seen if this will make the order more popular.

All types on defender use this skill to calculate the defence ratings, with [[wingback]]s primarily contributing to side defence, and [[Central_Defender|central defender]]s primarily contributing to central defence.

In midfield, inner midfielders contribute to all defence rating, particularly when played defensively. Wingers only contribute to the relevant side defence rating.

It is relevant on all players when using the [[Pressing]] tactic.

The main method by which this skill can be improved is [[defending training]], but note that this skill can also be improved by training [[defensive positions]].

3-4-3 is generally regarded the second strongest formation in Hattrick, second only to [[3-5-2]].

It is the preferred [[formation]] for [[scoring]] [[training|trainers]], as it enables them to maximise their [[midfield]], whilst playing a full quota of [[trainee]]s.

This is one of the most used formations by scoring trainers. It gives a strong midfield by having 3 midfielders and usually a fouth one played as [[Winger Toward Middle]]. It also gives a very strong [[central attack]] by using 3 [[forward]]s. Variations of this formation can be made by playing the [[wingback]]s [[defensive]], switching the side from where the [[extra]] forward is promoted and playing the midfielders [[offensive]] or defensive. Some even play the [[Central_Defender|central defender]] offensive for the extra bonus in midfield.

This is a rare played 3-4-3 formula. The middle is not so strong unless you use some very skilled midfielders. The attack is very good if you use this formation, especially if the midfielders are played offensive.

As a scoring trainer, you'll find that your tactics are rather limited, as you need to strengthen your midfield while playing three forwards. The first formation gives you decent [[wing defence]], which is useful against winger trainers, people playing [[forward toward wing]] or anybody that has a decent wing attack (unless you're trying to guess the side you'll opponent will play his wing). It's a good "all round" formation.

The second formation works well against most teams who concentrate on central attack (other scoring trainers, notably), but it leaves you relatively weak in wing defense.
If the use of tactics like [[AIM]] and [[AOW]] is worth its drawbacks it's still open for discussion.

Before each game examine your oppostion, and if it's got strong midfield, but weak attack, consider playing with an [[Abbreviations#O|OCD]] or with [[Abbreviations#C|CA]] (if you have the proper defenders, of course; CA can be especially lethal with the 4-3-3 and 5-3-2 formations). If its attack is strong, play your inner mids defensive, and if its defence is strong, play your inner mids offensive.
Generally speaking, try to find the opponent's weak spot and hit there. If the opponent has no wing defence, use a FTW or an offensive winger. If you're simply superior to your opponent in something and he can do nothing about it, insist on it and think what your opponent might do to counter your advantage. For example, if you have a better midfield than your opponent, consider that he might play [[counter attack]], so strengthen either your back-line or your attack.

The [[formation]] 2-6-2 isn't used very much, because [[training]] is lost. It is a risky [[tactics|tactic]] where a [[manager]] wants to boost the [[midfield]] [[rating]]. When playing 2-6-2 [[experience|experienced]] players are needed to prevent [[confusion]].

Normally only [[national team|national teams]], who don't suffer the training loss, will use this tactic. But teams that have a very important match, and are willing to lose training for a good result, are also known to use this [[formation]] too.

This is an example of 2-6-2 where is tried to dominate the [[midfield]] and also boost the [[attack]] [[ratings]] as much as possible. The defense will be very poor but a better [[midfield]] reduces the number of chances that the opponent will get. And with nice [[attack]] [[ratings]] the team will possibly score a lot of goals.

In this [[formation]] the sole goal is to boost the [[midfield]] as much as possible, in order to receive as much chances as possible and prevent the opponent to get any chances. All 4 [[Inner Midfielder|inner midfielders]], the two [[winger|wingers]] AND the two [[offensive]] [[Central Defender|central defenders]] are selected on their [[playmaking]] and [[stamina]], thus the [[midfield]] [[rating]] will be maximised. The [[Forward|forwards]] will get a lot of chances and they will have to knock som in because, the [[defence]] is actually formed by just a [[goalkeeper]], so if the opponent has a chance it will probably go in.

5-4-1 is mostly used for [[training]] [[defenders]]

5-4-1 is known as one of the worst [[formations]], even [[defending trainers]] agree to that. The advantage of this formation is that the [[midfield]] [[rating]] is acceptable, but the big downside is that one [[wing attack]] is neglected and [[central attack]] also won't be very strong. Scoring will be very difficult with this formation, so it can be used with [[pressing]] to make sure you don't lose, or with [[play creatively]] and a player with very good [[set pieces]] so you at least have a chance to score. [[CA]] won't work very well here because only one of your [[attack]] [[ratings]] is acceptable.

'''Extreme formations''' are those [[formations]] that cannot retain [[routine]] from match to match. As a result, [[confusion]] events with these formations is quite common. The formations are considered to be extreme because they usually abandon one part of the field.

The three most common Extreme formations are:

*[[5-5-0]]

These three formations, and only these, will not sacrifice training for the week as long as they are played with at most three players at each position.

The squad using these formations must have a high [[experience]] level to counteract the confusion created by using a formation that is virtually new to the team, even if you use it every week, since it is impossible to raise the experience level of the formation. One notable exception is with 5-2-3 with two wingers and [[Counter_Attack|counterattack]] tactic; such teams don't want any possession at all, solely relying on their counterattacking ability to score. In this case the team wouldn't really suffer any ill effects of confusion, since midfield [[ratings]] don't matter.

Those listed above are the most common, but there are numerous other extreme lineups which have been used over the years such as [[2-6-2]] and [[2-7-1]]. Please beware however that there is no way you can play any other Extreme formation than these three and still keep your weekly training.
