You can field the members of your squad on many different positions. The default hattrick line-up contains two Wing backs, two central defenders, two wingers, two midfielders and two strikers, all played with the normal order.

When putting players on different field positions to set a different line-up it's important to remember that playing more than three players on a central position will lead to loss of training. Individual orders will '''keep''' the player on his current position (though contributing a bit different to the ratings). Giving the player the order to play as "Extra ..." will make him move to a different position.

Central defender towards wing

A Central Defender towards wing is an individual order given to the central defender.

The defender towards wing gives a higher contribution to the resepective wing defence and less to the central defence. He also uses some winging to contribute to the wing attack of the side he's playing on.

The Central Defender towards wing isn't a verry common order but can be used to compensate for a wingback (if he's played offensive or as an extra midfielder or striker) or if your opponent has verry hig wing-attack ratings.

These are the strikers of your team that need to score the chances your [[midfield]] creates. [[Scoring]] skill and [[passing]] skill contribute to your teams attack [[ratings]]. The forward contributes to all three attacks (left, center and right). His individual order determines what side profits the most.

Central defender

Robin:

A standard defensive [[formation]] consists of 1 up to 3 central defenders and a left and a right [[Wingback|wingback]]. Central defenders are the heart of your defense and obsiously their defending [[skills|skill]] is their most prominent attribute.

You cannot field more then 3 central defenders, or you will lose [[training]] that week. This means there's a maximum of 10 trainees for defending trainers.

The abbreviation [[abbreviations|CD]] is commonly used for central defender.

* Normal -- Only the 'defending' skill contributes to the team ratings (Mainly the central defence but also to the wing defence of the side he's playing.).
* Offensive -- The defender uses defending and playmaking (combined with stamina). His defending still contributes to all three defence ratings. His playmaking contributes to the midfield ratings (though less than a 'Extra midfielder' or even the 'Winger towards middle'
* Towards wing -- More of his defending contributes to the wing defence (and less to the central defence). Also he starts using his winger skills.
