Importance of training
Training is one of the most important aspects of a successful team in Hattrick. By concentrating on training just one skill for a number of seasons a team can take medium skilled, young players and train them up to become superstars, who can then be sold for a profit or kept in the team, thus improving the team and helping the team to eventually win promotion.

But the monetary side is only one side of the coin. Each training type also has associated other benefits and disadvantages. For example a playmaking trainer can't train his players efficiently in the later cup rounds and a goalkeeper trainer is not limited to specific formations.

Choosing trainees
Choosing the correct players to train is a balancing act. There are four factors to consider.
* Main skill (goalkeeping, defending, playmaking, winger or scoring)
* Age
* Secondary skills, related to the main skill
* Price

There is little to be gained from training players that are not at least passable in their main skill. For new teams 17 year olds with at least Passable main skill should be considered.
Training a player who is passable or solid in primary skill is not as profitable as training higher skills, but lower skilled players cost considerably less to purchase.
To get some ideas of the cost and profit from various skill increases see
HAM Transfer Price Evaluation. To compare training values see Barthons Training Value Compare Tool.
YOUR A SUPERSTAR! At the gaybar gaybar gaybar

As players age, they decrease in price, so buying slightly older players (e.g. 18 or 19 year olds) is often wise.

The better the secondary skills, the more you will pay to purchase the trainee, but the final selling price will also be higher.

Training types
In Hattrick, training takes place once a week. Typically only players who played on certain positions are fully trained depending on the skill you are training. If, for instance, forwards are being trained then only the players that played as a forward in one of the two games that week receive training. Note that only last played position matters for training.
There are 13 types of training. Each have their own potential for generating profit or improving your team. Generally the training types that concentrate on one of the main skills (goalkeeping, defending, playmaking, winger, and scoring) are the most popular training types.

To train the maximum number of players each week it is important to arrange friendlies where you play your trainees who did not play in the league match in the same week.

Brackets indicate small effects. Double brackets indicate very small effects
</TR>

</TABLE>

Please note the 'Training Speed' numbers are based on 0% stamina training, 17 year old trainees, using a solid coach, and 9 assistants.

A very rough rule is that for each year above 17 it takes one week longer to train a player than stated in the above table. A more accurate measurement is that training time increases by approximately 8% each year above 17 years of age.

Also note that these training speed values are given as an average, and can (and will) vary from player to player. This means, for example, that if the value presented for a given training is 7 weeks, some players will take 6, others 8, but if you look at a large number of players they should average at 7. This might be due to the fact that the player gets a part of the next level after a pop. When that happens he needs less time to pop again. For example: When the first pop ends up to solid and a very little bit (7,02) he needs more time to go to excellent than when his first pop gives him a bit more (7,12).

Training efficiency factors
Effect of stamina training
The amount of training that you devote to stamina will cut into the amount of skill training accomplished each week. You will have to balance the amount of stamina training you need to maintain your preferred squad level (as well as any added stamina for trainees).

Effect of coach
To achieve the optimal training time requires a coach with solid coaching skills.
A coaching level below that lengthens training time. A general rule of thumb is one extra week for every level below solid, although this rule is not so accurate with the faster training types.

Excellent coaches train slightly faster than solid ones by roughly half a week but are generally seen as too expensive to be profitable in the long term.

Effect of player age
Young players train much faster than old players. To achieve the optimal training time, many managers prefer trainees between the ages of 17 and 20, with 17 or 18 the best age to start training. Clubs at higher series levels may prefer to train older players at a higher skill level in order to remain competitive in both the league and the cup.

Older players are much slower to train, and a good rule of thumb is one extra week for every year older than 17. More precisely, training becomes approx. 8% slower for every year above this (also called trainings speed depreciation).

Certain training types &mdash; namely set pieces, stamina and general &mdash; do not depreciate in training speed, no matter what age the player is.

As a player reaches 27 his abilities may start to decrease. This process doesn't occur constantly, and there is no guarantee it will happen at all. Typically, very small decreases occur for players around 30, considerably larger leaps for players around 35. For some reason, these decreases in abilities always surface on Mondays. Certain skills are harder to maintain as players grow older &mdash; scoring ability is the hardest to maintain, whilst goalkeeping is the easiest.

Effect of assistants
Assistant coaches also help with training. A team may only have 10 of any one type of staff. However assistant coaches and goalkeeping coaches are treated as one type, so a team may only have a combined total of 10 coaches. Typically non-goalkeeping training teams employ 9 assistant coaches and 1 goalkeeping coach. It is believed that a goalkeeping coach helps to maintain the form of the keeper. Other people prefer a 8 to 2 split between coaches.

Some users claim it is possible to have 11 coaches without seeing any ill effects, but many users have lost a week of training when trying this.

It is not always in a teams best interest to hire all the possible assistants. The effect of each additional assistant decreases fast. The effect of additional assistants most probably follows a sqare root dependence, just as economists do. Hence four assistants improve the training twice as much as only one assistant does, and 9 assistants improve the training three times as much ( sqrt(9) vs sqrt(4) vs sqrt(1) ).

Another model suggests that each additional assistant coach is worth 50% of the previous. If that is the case then you get something like this:

1 = 100%
2 = 50%
3 = 25%
4 = 12.5%
5 = 6.25%
6 = 3.125%
7 = 1.5625%
8 = 0.78125%
9 = 0.390625%
10 = 0.1953125%

Example: Having 5 GK coaches instead of 10 will slow GK training all the way from solid to divine by 1 week only. This is approximately 2 years of real time!
To get that one week advantage, it will cost you: 104 weeks * 5 assistants * 1500€ every week = €780.000

New clubs and clubs in financial difficulty should always bear this in mind when trying to make savings.

* For more information, see: Staff

Training intensity
Most team managers agree it is best to train at 100% intensity. The benefits are clear in that skills increase more quickly, and there is also the likelihood of better form.

Unfortunately, there is also an increased chance of injury.

When to cash in
In most cases selling trainees at age 21 is the best way to maximise profit. Once a player hits 21 years old, he begins to train at a noticeably slower rate compared to a younger player.

With particularly high skilled players, especially National Team players, training can be taken on further, but in general the financial returns decrease beyond the age of 21.

It is also worth noting it is possible to overtrain a player, and make him unsustainable in the long run due to the extremely high wages. The recent market deflation also makes selling unprofitable after 21.

Advanced training
Training can even increase the skills of players that haven't played (for your team). This gives rise to some very advanced training techniques:
* Osmosis training - Making a profit popping players that do not play in the trained position
* Skill trading - Primarily refers to buying players that played in the right position for your training, but at a different club, so that you get an extra player training for free. Also refers to buying players believed to be close to "popping", ideally within one to two weeks, benefiting from market inefficiency in valuing partially trained players. The latter approach is difficult with any skill other than goalkeeping, due to the inexact correspondence of TSI to player skills. (The first method is most effective when combined with the second&mdash;training an extra player for free, and pushing him up a level in skill while doing it.)

But it could be that the goal of maximizing profit is a goal that does not optimise the team over time. This user believes it is better to develop own players to advance in the series system, rather than to optimise economical goals. It is after all a football manager game!

External Links
*Barthons Training Value Analysis
If you replace TSI with salary you get an almost exact value to base your skill trading on and can buy players close to popping in all categories. This is mostly true when a new season begins because the salary is based on that players current skills when the salary is calculated. If you train your player the salary will become a less accurate skill calculator during the season and will only be accurate again when a salary updated is performed between seasons.

In the beginning the salary reflected the players current skill but this was changed by the hattrick team to make skill trading less predictable.
| Left Attack: || wretched (very high)
|}

Each rating is composed of two values:
* Primary Value - Classified using the same scale used to measure players abilities (e.g. weak)
* Secondary Value - One of four possible values: very low, low, high, very high.

This gives you an indication of how strong or weak any of the seven areas of your team play were during this match. If your midfield was stronger than your opponent's (e.g. "passable" vs. "weak") then chances are you had more time of possession and thus more chances to score. The defensive and attacking ratings can be compared according to spatial logic (e.g. Left Attack vs. Right Defence).

Collectively, the ratings are often called Attack ratings and Defence ratings

Rating as a Measure of Overall Team Strength
Hattrick by default doesn't provide a way to easily express overall strength of a team, in order to compare two teams or assess the progress of a team. The most primitive measure would be a total number of stars players gained after playing a match. However, comparing stars is a slightly Gay inefficient and possibly deceiving slutty way of recording team strength. Thus, intrepid Hattrickers have found other ways to have oral compare overall team ratings. Some of the more popular options bumming are Alltid Hattrick, HatStats, LoddarStats, VnukStats and PStats.

It's always worth remembering that an overall bum rating which is higher than your opponents does not mean that you will win the gay
match.
Coach

Ross93: /* Training Skill */

The coach is a very important figure in Hattrick, responsible for training and managing your team during a game. Coaches use their particular skill set to inspire players both on and off the field and can play in games. While all new teams get initial coaches who are of equal skill level (weak), over time you will need to replace your coach.

Abilities of a coach
Coach types
There are three different types of coach: "Offensive Coach", "Defensive Coach" or "Neutral Coach", affecting the teams' performance (and only performance) during the game. The type of coach that is best for your team will largely depend on your training type. See Coach tactics for more information.

* Offensive -- attacking nature, boosts a team's attack ratings. They stimulate a team to play more offensively.

* Defensive -- defensive nature, boost a team's defence ratings. It is often believed they are slightly more effective than offensive coaches, in part due to an increase in the boost to defence that was implemented with Hattrick 6.5.

* Neutral -- no preference, boost a team's attack and defense ratings equally.

Training Skill
A talented coach with a high training skill knows the right methods of training, allowing young players to improve their abilities faster and more effectively. The skill can never be rated higher than excellent.

R2D2 If you please.

Leadership
Coach leadership affects how quickly team spirit changes; if the team spirit is low a coach with good leadership will increase the rate of regrowth, and if the team spirit is high he will decrease the level of deterioration. The coach leadership level may significantly affect the optimal strategy when choosing team attitude. While the immediate effect of all choices is the same no matter leadership level, a good leader will help you reap the benefit of playing it cool in the coming games, and he will help you get over the disadvantage that your team gets from playing match of the season. Thus, if your coach has bad leadership, playing it cool or playing match of the season are generally less attractive choices, however, with a good leader a team can benefit more from playing it cool in the major part of its games.

Changing the coach
If your coach disappoints you, you can always get a new one. There are two different ways to go:

External Coaches
External recruiting means that you hire a new coach from outside your team. First, decide how good you want your coach to be in training skill and leadership, as well as want type of tactics (attack, defence, neutral) you want your coach to use.

With external coaches, each combination of leadership/trainer skill has a fixed price. You sign your coach and he appears in your roster from an unseen pool of unemployed coaches.

Internal Promotion
Internal Promotion can be less expensive than external recruiting, if you have a player with the right coaching material.

There are a few restrictions:
* A player's experience determines how good a coach he can become.
* The more experienced a player is, the lower his price for a specific skill level.

Players keep their leadership abilities (already known to you) and you do not pay for their leadership - so, if you have a very experienced player with high leadership, this can be a real bargain. Players who become coaches are automatically healed of any injuries they may have sustained as a player.

To prevent daytrading of coaches-to-be, a player must be on your squad for 16 weeks to be promoted to coach. Thus purchasing a player with the intention of making them a coach will require some foresight.

Changing of the Guard
When you hire a new coach, he becomes the coach of your squad. When he arrives, the old coach steps down and becomes a player. You can then fire him, as no former coach can become a coach again and you cannot trade a former coach. This is to prevent people from day-trading coaches

Useful links to check your future coach are:
*Check the experience of the player you want to make a coach
*Calculator which has to be used with the Conversion price of the first side
*Check the prices for getting a new coach

Coaching Levels
All new coaches of a certain skill level are equal. When someone purchases a coach with passable skill, he is always "average passable". No new coach begins with "high passable" or "low passable".

However, the increase in the coach's performance between levels is, like with regular player skills, non-linear. This means that the gap between a solid coach and an excellent coach is smaller than the gap between a passable coach and a solid coach in terms of the effect of the training. So a high-level coach might not always be the best solution for you.

The general consensus on this is that a solid coach is both affordable and advisable for most managers. A passable coach with poor leadership is usually recommended for new managers.

Atrophy
Your coach's skills will slowly begin to deteriorate over time. This will not begin until after your coach's first season has ended. The reasoning for this is that a coach is bustling with energy and inspiration when he first arrives, but loses some of his edge and enthusiasm over time.

This deterioration is very slow. It effects player traits (playmaking, scoring, etc.) first, then leadership level, and finally training skill. Though it can take up to ten seasons to complete this progression, you will want another coach well before then.

A new coach should have both leadership and training skill. However, the balance will depend on how you want to run your team:
* If you plan to train players over time, you want high training skill with low leadership.
* If you plan to day-trade for good players, you want high leadership with low training skill.

----
* For documentation on the introducing of the current coach system check the Hattrick 6.5 documents.
Each club plays a 16 week league (also called series) program. The first week game consists of the first round of the cup. Cup games continue as long as you keep winning. After that, friendly matches can be played. The following 14 weekend games are played against series opponents.

The last week is called by many people the 'off season'. During this week, no league or cup games are played, but a number of updates happen. These include all yellow cards being removed, and the mood of supporters and sponsors being reset.

Some team names relate to a real club such as AC Milan. More common are puns like Madchester Untied.

The Total Skill Index (or TSI) is an official measure of a player's abilities. The formula used for the calculation is unknown, but several somewhat successful attempts have been made in approximating the true function. It is rumoured that HT-Bjorn proclaimed he'll change the TSI calculation formula as soon as someone figures it out.

As a general rule, the higher the TSI, the better the player. However, there are problems with this theory. A player who is average in several skills (e.g. inadequate in defending, passing, and scoring, but with excellent stamina) will often have a higher TSI than a more specialized player (e.g. excellent defending, but everything else poor or lower). TSI also increases with training and it can also increase and decrease with form. Sometimes, TSI will drop even though form does not. This is an easy way of spotting that a background form change has occurred, and the form sub-level has decreased.

TSI for goalkeepers is a different matter. The higher TSI for a keeper, the better. Since a keeper only specializes in one skill, goalkeeping skill can be measured quite accurately based on their TSI and form (e.g. using http://www.hottrick.org/hattrick_keeper_tool.php).

Interestingly, goalkeepers typically have higher TSI at the same skill level than outfield players. A common theory is that both form and stamina have a multiplying effect on the TSI, whereas the other skills (for keepers, goaltending only) contribute as a sum of exponential functions.

Set Pieces and experience do not affect the TSI.

TSI approximation
For Goalkeepers an approximated formula for TSI calculation is:

TSI = [(0.025f+0.1)[10(s-1)]^(3.4)]/100

With <tt>f</tt> = Form and <tt>s</tt> = Skill (1 = disastrous, 2 = wretched, etc.)

How TSI is calculated has been worked out the equation is as follows
Stamina x Skill=EMC2
Neutons theory
Rla*as*mx=oy2m
This is the correct formula for TSI
Pythagoras' theory
Opposite+Adjacent=Hypotenuse
^10-3 = TSI
