'''Viescha''' is a [[Latvija|Latvian]] HT user who worked as [[Language Administrator]] for Latviešu (Latvian) language from 07.02.2005 until August 2006.
His Hattrick team - [[VLTeam]] - was established in 10.12.2003 and, after earning quick promotion from Level V in the first full season (the team had to start their first ever season with 3 lost matches while still a bot), resided in [[Latvia_IV_13|IV.13]] division for a time, always being a strong contestant to promotion. On Season 10, the team won IV.13 yet lost the subsequent qualifying match. The next IV.13 victory in Season 15 earned the team a place in Level III for the first time.

The debut wasn't very satisfying, however. 16 points were not enough to secure a place in III.15 and the team had to play a qualifier again, which they lost. After returning to Level IV, the team was renamed to Valmiera Bengals. Season 18 can be considered the most successful for the team - it reached Round 11 of the Cup (beating at least one team from every league level on the way), losing only to the eventual Cup winner [[FK Pirates]] in a close contest - 2:4, even taking the lead twice. Also, a promotion to Level III was earned again. In an exciting Season 19 (though plagued by injuries just like, ironically, the previous attempt at Level III), Valmiera Bengals finished in tied 5th place (all stats identical to [[coldstars]]) and again had to prove their right to belong in Level III, failing to do so again.

After the unlucky Season 19, the team was heavily reorganized, selling most of the lineup and switching to [[Defending training|training defenders]]. Whether Valmiera Bengals under the new match engine are going to reestablish themselves, grow in strength and return to Level III or possibly even higher after some time, remains to be seen.

===Sverige - Latvija semifinal controversy===
The semifinal match between Swedish and Latvian national teams raised rather intense conference discussions about it. The Swedish national team, trailing late in the game 1 - 2, got the lucky equaliser goal in the 90th minute and later went on to win in extra time. Almost immediately after the end of regular match time, many conference users started reporting that this match had been reported to them somewhat strangely - the other semifinal had already ended, while the Swedish - Latvian one still went on, and after about half a minute, a Swedish equalizer was announced, sending the match into extra time. This led to "conspiracy theories" about HT-Team manually altering the match and its outcome to prevent Sweden from being eliminated from tournament. However, the accusations of any unfair actions taken to affect the usual match simulation were immediately denied by HT officials, and next day, an announcement was made to clarify what exactly happened at the match (see ''When exactly does a match end?'' below).

Thanks to observant users, we have found a bug regarding the hosting nations in the World Cup. When a hosting nation was drawn as a "away team", the hosting nation got the home-advantage. However, the bug also gave home-advantage to the formal home-team, meaning that both teams got the boost from having a fanatic home crowd. We have now spoken to the future home crowds and made sure that they will only cheer for the hosting nation.
This bug has unfortunately affected both the regular World cup and the U20 World Cup since the dawn of time.

The recent World Cup semi-final between Sweden and Latvia has given rise to questions about when exactly a match ends. The answer is that it ends within one minute after 90 minutes have been played. The exact second depends on what happens on the field. Usually, if the last minute is uneventful, the referee stops the match around 5 seconds after 90 minutes mark. However, if there are a lot of things happening, it is in fact quite common that there are events as late as 30 or even 40 seconds later. In the semifinal between Sweden and Latvia, the Swedish equalizer happened after 90:39. This is unusually late, but not exceptionally - it happens many times every week, just not normally in such important matches followed by thousands of users.

Also: Whilst we fully understand the disappointment with the result among Latvian fans (and others rooting for Latvia), please remember to keep your head cool and to always treat your fellow Hattrick players with respect, even after a defeat.

'''Par lielu Latviju!''' - the largest federation in [[Latvia]]. It was founded by [[Basketbolists]] in late 2004. In the beginning, it was named ''Oligarhu apvienība''; but, after some disagreements in the Latvian U-20 elections, the federation split. A large segment of some of the more famous Latvian Hattrick players left this federation.
This was a hard time for this federation. <br>
There were now just over 40 members; so, [[Basketbolists]] made a decision to change the federation. With the changes came the new federation title "Par lielu Latviju". The rules of the federation became different. Now, it is a federation without purpose. <br>
In September 2005, [[Varoniz]] became a leader of this federation. There are now about 90 members in the federation, and this number growing. After the crisis in the federation, when a lot of people left it, there has always been a rivalry between Par lielu Latviju and [[Enkurs]] which is another large Latvian federation. In [[Enkurs]] you may find almost all HT players who left Par lielu Latviju.
