Attack on Wings (AoW) tactics raises the probability that your team attacks on the two sides of the field, lowering at the same time the probability that a chance is created in the middle.

Using AoW, the game keeps adding a modifier throughout the match and the effectiveness is reported with a level of tactics at the start of the game and in the match ratings. When calculating AoW level, an experience bonus is added for each involved player.

Every AoW chance conversion is reported with events and lost opportunities are detailed.

Effectiveness[edit]

The distribution of regular chances between center, wings and set pieces (direct or indirect) is 35%, 25% (left ad right), 15%. When getting a chance playing AoW tactics, your chances of it being a wing attack will raise, changing the distribution by at least 15% up to 30% (if the ability in the tactic is the highest possible).

Your ability to turn attacks through the middle into wing attacks is influenced by the total passing skill of all your outfield players.

Further Read[edit]

In the old version of the manual, AoW was presented with a maximum 40% conversion rate and related to series level:

This is an extract from the Hattrick rules, Chapter 11
With an exceptional skill, you will get something like 40% more attacks on Wings. To qualify for "exceptional", more is required of teams in a top level game than in a Divison IV fixture, and the same relative level is taken into account for the other tactic types as well. At a minimum you are guaranteed to get 20% more attack on Wings. Depending on your skill, you will end up somewhere in between these two extremes.

There was some debate over the effectiveness of this tactic, with some trainers feeling it is not as effective as the rules suggest. The feeling was proven true with a MyHT message on 24th June 2008:

24/06/2008 More effective attack on wings tactic
Because of a bug, the attack on wings tactic has up until now been less effective than originally planned. This bug, which was very hard to discover and has even managed to slip through our sharp eyes in previous checks, has now at last been found and fixed. As a result, attack on wings will from now on be more effective than before. Exactly how effective it will be depends on your tactical skill (as always).

This bug fix will be in effect from today's matches on.
