Lokomotiv Veltem Back-on-Track hosted Klub Sandwich on 14 October 2018 as part of the 11th matchday of season 69 of the VI.87 series. The match also featured as an unofficial Clubteams World Champions title match. Lokomotiv Veltem Back-on-Track won the match, remaining UCWC champion.

Match report

54034 spectators had come to The Railroads this cloudy day. Adrian Bognar was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jorge Angarita and Daniel Tomuţa.

The following players took the field for Back-on-Track: Ballout - Garardi, Rebelo - Bilon, Hahn, De Muynck, Van Lede, Al-Sadah - Otchigin, Flores, Zhivotnev. The following players had been chosen by Sandwich: Mathieu - Barqueiro, Moldván, Buzek - Lazinica, Gossaert, Blaise, De Visscher, Habitzl - Hammarby, Mumoli.

First half

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 3-5-2. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Jorge Guillermo Flores from Back-on-Track a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 15 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Tomo Lazinica managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but Ringo Gossaert was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Sandwich's Friedrich Wilhelm Habitzl after 31 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. Back-on-Track's Kornelius Bilon got himself booked for a foul. With a shot curled in from just outside the middle of the penalty area after 35 minutes played, Nikolay Zhivotnev of Back-on-Track made the score 1 - 1. Maxime Blaise was unable to continue, as he once again hurt that bad right knee of his. He left the field in frustration in minute 40. The replacement for the injured player was Bartolomeo De Lupis. Farid Al-Sadah gave Back-on-Track the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 2 - 1 Guido De Muynck could have put Back-on-Track up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 42 minutes. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Back-on-Track, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.

Second half

As the game started to slip away for Sandwich, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. The Sandwich coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy. 48 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Silvain Hahn broke through, making the score 3 - 1 for Back-on-Track. Eduardo Garardi unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. With 64 minutes played, Back-on-Track's Janick Van Lede almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Sandwich manager used a brief break in play after 65 minutes to give the players new directives. When Kornelius Bilon made yet another studs-first tackle after 72 minutes, the referee was obliged to book the Back-on-Track player for the second time, sending him off the pitch. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 3 - 1. Back-on-Track claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 60 percent.

Post match

Back-on-Track's top performer was clearly Silvain Hahn. On the other hand, Eduardo Garardi's play was disheartening. Most important Sandwich player was Stéphane De Visscher. Norbert Mathieu on the other hand, had a terrible day.
