=== League Game ===

A League Game is a competitive match between two teams from the same league.  League matches occur on match days, which usually occur on Saturday or Sunday. 100% of the income from league game ticket sales goes to the home team. Each [[season]], every team has seven (7) home and seven (7) away matches.

League games can end in a tie.

=== Cup Game ===

A Cup Game is a competitive match between two Cup opponents. Cup games occur on friendly days, which are on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.  A cup match is not a friendly with cup rules, but rather part of a tournament hosted by the nation your team plays for.

The Cup rankings and tournament are set before a season begins and are based on results from the previous season. Teams are ranked, starting in the top division on down.  Rankings for the cup never change during the season.

Order of play is:

* #1 plays the lowest

* #2 plays the second lowest, and so on.

The lower ranked of the two teams is the home team.  67% of the income from cup game ticket sales goes to the home team; 33% to the away team.  Every country in Hattrick has a Cup and most countries give the opportunity for teams from every league level to earn a cup spot, though teams in the bottom divisions need a strong finish.  Cup matches never end in a tie. A [[penalty shoot-out]] automatically ensues if the teams are tied after regular time.  A loss in a cup match eliminates a team from the tournament.

Users participating in a Cup tournament are unable to schedule friendlies while they are participating.

=== Qualifiers ===

A qualifier is a match played during week fifteen (15) of each season.  The match is played to determine which teams will qualify and be promoted to the next division and which teams will be relegated to a lower division.

A game or match is a single outing between two clubs.

Official matches, also reffered to as competitive matches, include all league, qualification, and cup matches. Friendlies and friendly cups do not count as competitive matches, though they are important for the development of a team.

Tournaments and ladders competition are something in between a official and a friendly match. They are alternative matches where players cannot get injured and cards do not affect your regular league or cup games.

For national teams, matches include international friendlies and all World Cup qualification and main stages.

Aftermaths

In addition to the aforementioned effect on team spirit, there are other game aspects affected by a match.

Team sponsors like winning clubs, and they will improve their mood after a victory.

Team supporters at the same time are interest only in the number of goals you score and in your series position. So they will come to your arena if you won by a lot of goals in your previous match, and improve their mood if you are in the affected position in league and you have a long cup run.
