Burma (Myanmar in Burmese, မြန်မာ) is a Far East Asian country. It was the 140th nation to join the Hattrick World.
In the 16th century the country was unified and became the largest empire in the history of Southeast Asia. In the late 19th-century the British East India Company seized control of the administration of the area after three Anglo-Burmese Wars. After the British colony and a brief Japanese occupation, Myanmar was granted independence in 1948. Following a coup d'état in 1962, it became a military dictatorship in one of the world's longest-running ongoing civil wars.
