Belgian Season 36, or Global Season 49, was the tenth full season in which Red Star Brussels participated, and the eighth in which they participated as Red Star Brussels (before, they used to be known as Red Star Gent). They played in League VI.673.

Season Synopsis

Name

The team continued with his name Red Star Brussels, or the official name SVV Red Star Brussels.

Stadium

The Red Star Brussels stadium, the Leon Trotski Stadium, had 53.000 seats at the beginning of the season, and was not enlarged.

Season Summary

The team started with the ambition to do better then last year in the League (4th place), and better in the Cup (4th Round). This last ambition was not achieved, as the team again was kicked out of the cup in the fourth round after a 4-6 penalties defeat against fifth classer Les Meutix. However, in the League, the team was more successfull, and was capable of achieving a 1st position at the end of the League. The team qualified for a qualification game for promotion to 5th division, but the team considered it too early to promote already. As such, the team didn't put its first team to play the qualifier, and lost the game. The training programme changed from defending to passing, while some long-term defenders in the team were replaced by other, more suitable players for the longer term. The new passing training programme will be the basis of the future midfielder training programme.
