Rode Ster Paramaribo (abbrevation RSP) is a football team in Suriname. The team currently plays in the "Hoofdklasse", the top tier of the Surinam Competition. They are the second team of Lunacharsky.

History[edit]

The Early Years[edit]

The team was created at the end of Season 51, as the second team of Lunacharsky. Suriname was elected for language reasons (the country is Dutch-speaking, as is Lunacharsky), and because playing in a small country adds something interesting to the game: more possibilities for community building, training of U20 and NT players, and flag chasing.

In its first season, Rode Ster Paramaribo focussed on recruiting some long-term players: Goalkeeper Jan Łyś joined the team, together with a set of Surinamese young players, the most famous being Jurie Harman. The team focussed on training a competitive team for the near future, and had two foreign players to train and trade. As such, there were no objectives whatsoever concerning the final position in the League.

When Lunacharsky stopped with Hattrick early 2016, the team was liquidated. It restarted in September 2016, in global season 63.

Restart[edit]

After the restart in season 63, Rode Ster became a top-4 contender in league III.3, but failed to win the title and chance on promotion during this period. The team was particularly successful in scouting and training good youth prospects that had a possible Suriname U20 and NT future, particularly Walter Faverey, Heramb More, Gerard Braam and Rajesh Puri. The team focussed it's whole training programme on training Faverey, while the other players were sold for huge transfer amounts.

The team managed to win promotion to second division in Season 67, and only one season later, they even promoted to the highest division, the Hoofdklasse.

Name & Slogan[edit]

Team Name[edit]

The current name "Rode Star Paramaribo" was introduced on April 8th 2013, the day the Second Team was requested in Hattrick. It was decided to take the Dutch name for the team, as Dutch is the main language in the country.

Slogan[edit]

The official slogan of the team is "Nixor, Concordia, Socialisma", or "Struggle, Solidarity, Socialism". It is also the slogan of the trotskyist party LSP in Belgium, of which many supporters of the RSB hometeam are members. The slogan expresses the sportive rivalry and competition between football teams, while on the same time stressing on the class unity between all workers of different teams, or like President Jan Verhamme of the Red Star Brussels supporters' association put it: "Football rivalry is for one evening, class solidarity is forever"

Team colours, logo and kit[edit]

The Rode Ster Paramaribo logo is set in a white circle, in which is a red star, surrounded by the teams' name, and a red stripe beneath, following the circle. In the red star, the rose in the fist of socialism is presented. Above to the right of the round shield, the Suriname flag is represented, with the slogan of the team besides the flag pole.

The RSP logo was developed by Stanchev, a Bulgarian player who manages FC Torpedo Dobrich (530182). Staff, players and supporters of Rode Ster Paramaribo are eternally grateful for the professional logo.
