From what I know, General training doesn't improve foreground form at all. What it does is speed up the transition to background form if it's higher than foreground form, and slows down the transition if it's lower. That is, if a player is in excellent form, and his BG form is weak, he'll drop in form slower than usual. If his FG form is weak, and BG form is excellent, he'll rise faster. If this wasn't the case, then we'd be seeing hordes of newbie clubs who "train" General and field inadequate players in solid/excellent form throughout the season, but we don't. I do not believe that's an accurate description of how it functions -- I've had much too drastic effects from one week of training general. Rather, I believe that the way general training functions is by placing a temporary multiplier on background form, raising the "effective" background form for the purpose of form updates. The result is a temporary surge in form when general training is undertaken, followed by a corresponding fall when it's halted.

I've trained general preparatory to a qualifier on at least two previous occasions, and prior to doing it the first time I also inquired with IndyRacing about his experiences. We've both seen the same behavior. However, I also got into a protracted discussion with some folks on the Newbie conference, and at least one claimed not to have seen the same kind of form effects as I did. --Mr Wednesday 17:32, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
