Belgium (Dutch: België, French: Belgique, German: Belgien, as spelled in 3 official languages) is a Western European country. It was the 38th nation to join the Hattrick World.
Kingdom of Belgium is divided into three highly autonomous regions: the Flemish Region in the north, Wallonia in the south, and Brussels, the capital and largest city, that also hosts the official seats of the European Commission. French is the dominant language, although 60 percent of the population is Dutch-speaking, and a small German-speaking community lives in the East Cantons.The Kingdom emerged in 1830 following the Belgian Revolution when it seceded from the Netherlands. During the course of the 20th century, Belgium possessed a number of colonies in Africa, the most important was Congo.
History
- The Belgian league was created on October 2001 (global season 14) along with other six countries.
- Before league creation, an official request of Belgian users asking for a separate country to be created was gathered mainly by Pelotas, a user formerly playing in the USA.
- On the first of January 2002, The country was restarted after an error. Due to the error, what appears as season 2 is in fact season 1, season 3 is season 2, etc. For example, the displayed season 36 was the 35th season played (note that the strange data behave is not corrected in the National trophies table below).
- On February 2005, a poll about country's name was proposed and collected votes from around 4 200 Belgian users. They where asked to choose between België, Belgique and Belgium.
- The name remained België as most of the voters wanted to keep it as country name: 57% as the drop down menu name, 60% as the full name.
- On October 2009, 4 years later, the country's name was changed anyway, as België was renamed to Belgium.
- Belgium hosted World Cup XI. Belgian NT reached round II in that edition.
- Belgium hosted U-20 World Cup XXI, where Belgian NT U-20 was eliminated in round III.
