After the success of last season and subsequent promotion, the season saw a hugely anticipated return to VI for Obsidian XI, the club finding themselves in Series VI.619. Confident that the club had built a foundation from which to avoid the relegation dog-fight that plagued them during Season 35, Gill continued to build upon his core group of players. Notable arrivals to Darkness Falls included winger Alex Denezhkina and striker Tom Adolfsson. Even Sviland was the only notable departure, the club receiving a then record £637,000 for the Norwegian. Obsidian went on to finish the season in second position with a 12W-0D-2L after only faltering twice, both times against eventual series winners, Cobblers. Alex Denezhkina was named Player of the Season, while Young Player of the Season went for the second season in succession to Tobi Benke-Schechinger.

[[Image:VI.jpg|left]]Obsidian started the campaign hoping to challenge for their second promotion in three seasons. With the pre-season signing of 19 year old technical defensive forward, Scottie Twohig, Obsidian went from strength to strength, finishing the season with their second perfect 14W-0D-0L and automatic promotion. Continuing their tradition of signing exciting youth prospects, Obsidian captured the signatures of 17 year old midfielder Stephen Wishart and 18 year old winger Kennedy Murray during the course of the season. The exciting combination of Tom Adolfsson and Scottie Twohig up-front paved the way for former Player of the Season Evan Phillips to leave the club, while other notable departures included Leslaw Wroclawski and the previous year's Player of the Season, Alex Denezhkina. Scottie Twohig, affectionately nicknamed 'Twopigs' by fans, earned the club's Player of the Season award after a succession of match winning performances during the campaign. Young Player of the Season was awarded to Neo Marginet, while Tom Adolfsson won the Series VI.619 Golden Boot, scoring 16 goals in total.

The previous season's promotion marked Obsidian XI's arrival into V.45. Their first time in V, the club was apprehensive about their chances for survival in what looked to be an extremely competitive series. After an initially positive start that saw them win their first two games of the season, Obsidian only managed to take two points from their following five games. While up until this point, Obsidian had been a largely offensively oriented side, it had become clear to Gill that the area requiring most improvement was their defence were they to battle it out for series survival. This lead to the big name departures of Tom Adolfsson, Lyle Kaul-Seidman, Tobi Benke-Schechinger and also the only surviving player from the original team, Matthew Caden. The departures of those players financed  the club's largest investments to date, spending a total of £7.75M on the three players that would become their new defensive line-up, Steven Kinane, Damien Joyce and the then club record signing, £3.25M rated David MacCall. Obsidian went on to win a further three games by the end of the season, earning themselves a hard fought fifth position in the series with 5W-2D-7L. With their safety not yet secure, Obsidian went on to play a demotion play-off game at home to VI's Krysztal, Obsidian running out eventual 7-1 winners and ensuring Series V football again the following season. New Signing David MacCall earned the club's Player of the Season award, after his defensive efforts were largely the credited reason Obsidian avoided automatic relegation. Scottie Twohig, last season's Player of the Season, took the Young Player of the Season award.
