Of course the communication is very limited if no common language is available. I tried once in a train from Paris to Barcelona to talk to a man from Mali. All the frenspanisenglishwhatever did not amount to much, but we had a beer together. Sometimes the communication goes further. I have two Polish supporter connections which started from a friendly. A project called Hattriquette
This is the beginning of a project called “Hattriquette”. The idea is to add a dimension currently almost absent in the game.
I'm talking about interaction between managers arranging a friendly match. I have sent my friendly match opponents mails like ”Welcome to play a friendly game at Funtomium (my stadium).” I have gotten some replies, but many times there has just been silence. No “hellos”, “thanks” and ”greetings”. It is funny, that a Finn starts to discuss about this subject. We are thought to be a nation which is unable to “small-talk” with strangers.
The basic idea is to collect in each language the game is played some basic frases concerning the friendly match. This is an “at least” agenda. The writings can be stored in hattrick wiki or somewhere else in the internet, if this forum proves to be inappropriate for this project.
I have tried to communicate with German, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Croatian and Latin American team managers in their own languages without knowing any German, Polish, Russian, Chinese or Croatian, well, Spanish I know a bit though. It has been fun getting a taste of these foreign languages.
We write in English now, because the internet translators don't work well. I probably wrote some wierd Polish before they asked me to write in English. (Yes, the smarter of you notice that at the moment I don't have the Polish flag in my collection, since the friendlies were played in England.)
This example here will hopefully clarify the idea a bit:
A Finnish manager hosting a friendly match writes to an English speaking manager from England:
Tervetuloa Suomeen! Toivottavasti joukkueesi viihtyy ja onnea peliin! Ystävällisin terveisin
Welcome to Finland! I wish your team a pleasant stay and good luck for the game. Yours Funny Tom
The visiting manager replies (in Finnish and/or English):
Kiitos! Onnea peliin myös sinulle. Ystävällisin terveisin
Thank you! Good luck for the game. Yours sincerely / greetings “The-visitor-from-England”
or after the game:
Kiitos pelistä!
Ystävällisin terveisin
Thank you for the game! Yours sincerely / greetings “The-visitor-from-England”
I haven't thought out all the details of this project. Maybe we can do it together, learn something from each other and have Fun.
Yours, Funtom from Finland
