Formed during Season 35 in 2008, the club continues to grow in stature as they progress through the Series system. The club achieved their highest rank of 174th in England and 7th in Yorkshire on 3rd January 2011.
Obsidian XI's home ground is Darkness Falls, the stadium having a maximum capacity of 50,000. The club's highest attendance was 48,648 against PortsmouthCity during a league game in Series IV.27, on 26th December 2010.
Club History
Obsidian XI were originally founded 22nd March 2008 by Michael_Gill, originally under the guise of GoalScoringSuperstarHero, a nod back to a certain video game of yesteryear. GoalScoringSuperstarHero began in Season 35 as a Series VI.712 side, though against much stronger competition the team struggled to compete, eventually culminating in their relegation to VII.877. On 8th June 2008 the club re-branded, Obsidian XI were born.
Season 36 saw the newly re-branded Obsidian XI dominate VII.877. The emergence of Evan Phillips and Matthew Caden from the previous regime, combined with the midfield signings of Neo Marginet, Tobi Benke-Schechinger and Even Sviland, proving too much for the rest of the competition to handle. Obsidian saw the season come to a close with a perfect 14-0-0 record, scoring 100 goals in the process and conceding only 5 the entire season. Evan Phillips scored 19 goals in the series, taking the VII.877 Golden Boot and with it, the club's Player of the Season award. Tobi Benke-Schechinger was named Young Player of the Season.
Season 37 saw the hugely anticipated return to VI for Obsidian XI, the club finding themselves in Series VI.619. Confident that the club had built a foundation from which to avoid the relegation dog-fight that plagued them during Season 35, Gill continued to build upon his core group of players. Even Sviland was the only notable departure, the club receiving a then record £637,000 for the Norwegian, while notable arrivals included Sviland’s replacement, offensive midfielder Lyle Kaul-Seidman, also full-back Leslaw ‘The Claw’ Wroclawski and winger Alex Denezhkina. Obsidian finished the season in second position with a 12-0-2 after only faltering twice, both times against eventual series winners, Cobblers. Alex Denezhkina was named Player of the Season, while Young Player of the Season went for the second season in succession to Tobi Benke-Schechinger.
