Meaning of name Zion
ZION most often designates the Land of Israel. The Jewish longing for Zion, starting with the enslavement in babylon, was adopted as a metaphor by all oppresed peoples. Thus, Zion symbolizes a safe homeland. This could be Africa for the Rastafari. For others, it has a more spiritual meaning, like Heaven or Messiah's kingdom on earth. Rasta reggae is usually full of references to Zion, among the best-known examples are the Bob Marley songs '"Zion Train" and "Iron Lion Zion."
Official Club Anthem
The zion11.com anthem comes from a boney m song inspired by Psalm137. Lyrics:
By the rivers of Babylon, where we sat down, ye-eah we cried, when we remembered Zion. When the wicked carried us away in captivity, Required from us a song, Now how shall we sing HaShem's song in a strange land? Let the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart be acceptable in God's sight tonight. By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion. Yeah Yeah Yeah, We remember Zion !!!
