Positiespel is de belangrijkste vaardigheid voor de centrale middenvelder and vleugelspelers met de individuele order naar het midden. Het is ook nuttig voor alle andere vleugelspelers, defensieve spitsen aanvallende centrale verdedigers. Aanvallende vleugelverdedigers gebruiken ook een klein beetje positiespel.
