Coomar Rangers had existed for a number of years as a minor league team with very little funding until a chance meeting in February 2004 changed their fortunes. On a foul evening with the rain lashing down, the then Coomar manager Stan Hepplethwaite was driving home from a training session when he came across a broken down BMW. Stan stopped to see if he could help and being a bit of an amateur mechanic, soon had the BMW running again. The gratefull driver offered to buy Stan a drink, and the two of them went to a nearby pub. The discussion soon got round to football and Stan's passion for the game was obvious. The BMW driver, named Henry Winklerburger turned out to be a huge football fan as well and offered to fund Stan's team in repayment for Stan's Samaritan act. With funding in place, Coomar applied to join the Hattrick league and were accepted into league VI on 27th July 2004. | |||
