In Hattrick a team's points are based on how many league victories or draws they have. Each team is awarded three points for a win and one point for a tie. No points are awarded for a loss. For National Teams, the team's points are based on how many victories or draws they have in the current round. Points are the primary basis for determining a team's position in a league, or in national teams for determining who gets to the next round and who doesn't.
A common mistake made is to mix up goals and points. The number of goals a team has is based on the number of goals scored in each match. The number of points a team has is based on the number of victories and draws a team has. Goals do not affect points, except in the sense that you must score more goals than your opponent (or at least the same number) to get points.
