Reply to (7831762.6). -Are you planning to do something to strike down spamming of teams in smaller nations? Or will you leave it as it is?
I mean, perhaps a filter for the guestbook/mailbox who can filter out messages containing certain words or stronger penalties for spam? I don't believe stronger penalties is the solution, it's "possible" to get your team/account locked because of repeated spamming etc. Word filter is also something I don't believe in, there's really no way to filter out every bad word in all languages, and then I don't even mention the "misspelled" words...
As I see it, the real problem isn't really bad language or inappropriate behaviour. It's just that a lot of ppl want a specific flag and kindly ask the (very few) users they can get the flag from. This way these few users get a looot of messages, and then it becomes a problem. So it's not easy to find a solution which will put an end to this problem as the biggest part of the problem is that most mails are friendly (and we can't really forbid friendly mails). But we are discussing this problem, maybe we can at least give these small country users an option to say no to messages like that (and if ppl still send mails etc, then GMs can do something about it).

Reply to (7831762.8). What are your views on the disparity between the effect of different coach types on the ratings? Are you planning to remove the extra benefit of the defensive coach since there are signs it is starting to get abused?
I think the disparity makes sense. In the Hattrick history most teams have been built offensively, which is not that strange because fans tend to like that their team is scoring a lot of goals. I still think the general Hattrick team has got much stronger offense then defense, so the disparity in the coaches has a reason - to somehow benefit and promote defensive teams a bit.
I got to admit however that I haven't seen any signs of this "getting abused", nor have I seen any discussion about it (but maybe I've missed it, I don't read every thread after all?). But please open up a thread for this and tell me your opinion (and back up with "facts" if possible) and we'll see if we need to change our view on things. Listening to your opinion is the least we could do.

Reply to (7831762.9) Do you believe that the current seasonal awards are adequate or do you plan to increase the amounts received by the teams successful in the leagues? If we start with the top scorer money, that money is only meant to be symbolic because of nature of scoring (it's not really skill related as you know). So top scorer money will remain to be a symbolic sum, just for the fun of it.
The seasonal awards are something else, which of course can (and from time to time should) be discussed in the (HT) team. It's of course also important to look at the global economy so you don't add too much money, such things have to be taken into consideration. Right now I think the seasonal awards are adequate, especially if you look on how much you get from each penny on the transfer market these days. But if we choose to increase any of the seasonal awards I think the promotion money should be my choice.

Reply to (7831762.16) In the past we agreeded that the best part of Hattrick had been the community, nowadays I am not sure we can say the same and probably I can guess that this has been caused by a such great explosion of the number of players.
As a profit enterprise, will you always prefer quantity to quality or could we hope for an inversion of this tendence? Absolutely not, and that's never ever been the case. If quantity would've been the most important thing for us we would have made the signup process a lot easier and we wouldn't bother to check them as we do today.
I still think the community part of the game is the best part, at least that's true for me and it has always been that way. That said, it's of course true that the community has evolved together with the rest of the game. Some years ago the Hattrick community (or rather communities) were rather small. Small communities have their benefits, they're very intimate and you get the feeling that you "know" most of the people. The larger a community gets the less you feel you know the people, but on the other hand you get other benefits like a bigger source for new informtion and new knowledge. Today there is a lot of big and small communities within the Hattrick community, but the first one you'll see is often a big one (the national one). I think that's the major change in fact, that most ppl have to search for the smaller communities.
Yada, yada, yada...back to the question. Quantity matters of course, but the quality of our product will always be more important. At the same time they're also combined, better quality means bigger quantity and bigger quantity makes it possible for us to improve the quality.

Oh, that's been my personal new feature favorite for a long time now, and I guess I'm not the only one that would love scheduled substitutions. However, it's a lot of work related to such a feature. Right now we're focusing on the new youth system (another feature needing a massive amount of work), so other major new features are on hold right now. And as you know, we tend to develop Hattrick at a slow pace in order not to change the whole game over a night too. That said, I will definately not rule this out for the future, even though it will still have to compete with some other major feature prospects.

Now and then (like this week), someone starts complaining about his/her players not receiving training. When that happens suddenly it's like the whole HT-community has the same problem, and massive threads on Global and such start where people try to convince the HT's and each other that something must be wrong with the training of his/her players.
Do you HT's consider some feature to cover this in the future, like the last date each player got his training or anything alike that enables these managers to check themselves within HT whether or not his/her players got their training or not?
Edited 2007-01-08 11:01:06 by Pupske
One of the reasons for the TSI value, historically, was for users to be able to see that there were some change in the underlying value in the player even when a player didn't level in his traing. This is a blunt instrument though, as sometimes the TSI moves even when there hasn't been a skill change, and vice versa.
Users has always worried about their training, and this is - really - one of the worries that are most often completely unnecessary. The training can be delayed, but it is extremely rare that it fails. You will just have to assume that the system is working.
So what about your suggestion to have a way to double-check this? It's not unconceivable, of course, but then we would need to worry about THAT feature working correctly or not, and it's in fact probable that such a function would be less reliable than the training updates, which we keep very good control of.

They get their nicknames before they reach the Hattrick pitch so to say. In rare occasions (like (2777922)) they're given a nickname after a memorable moment in Hattrick.
Sometimes GMs also give some players an initial (like John F. Doe) if a team got two players with the same name.

When will you introduce a "SPAM"-Button comparable to the "Report-Transfer"-Button?
I have the feeling Spammers aren't punished enough.. I see guys putting the same message in x-hundred Guestbooks but they get through with it...
Instead of finding new way of changing the game, better make sure the quality of the manager increases, and we be free of these wild friendly-searching spammers...
We're currently discussing what is the best way to deal with this nuisance. Like with everything, there's a balance to consider. The whole point of friendlies and guestbooks is to encourage positive interaction between users, and that's also mostly the case. So when we try to deal with the abuse we should do it in a way that doesn't limit the "normal" use too much, or not at all. The problem isn't technical so much as social in this case. Creating the spam report buttion would be easy, but what happens when someone is reported? Is each case evaluated manually by a GM or is it automatic? How do you prevent abuse of the spam reports themselves? And so on. Something will be one, but can't say when or exactly how yet. I agree it must be a nuisance for users expacially in very small leagues but not more important than other things we are currently working on.

You are always trying to develop supporter package. I am really curious if there is any future development about number of supporter slots or free slots opening per season (I want to support more teams)
Also what is the bottom limit of time to look our match events' statistics? Because I always get the alert that I have not been playing HT for long enough to see these statistics.
Last year we added the feature that the Supporter slots multiply over time - so that's already taken care of. If you are a Supporter, you'll get a new slot each season since you probably have met new friends that you would like to support (but you never want to kick out old buddies). I think that takes care of this "urge".
I'm not sure about how long the match stats takes - I guess you simply need to wait patiently a while longer to accumulate meaningful stats.

Reply to (7831762.557) Is it allowed to ask a GM to give some of (for example) my players a nickname? and if not, why not? Well, it's allowed to ask - but you will not get a nickname for your player from the GMs. :) The only time GMs give players a "nickname" is when you got two players with the same name, then one of the players may get an initial between the names. For example, if you got two John Doe one can get called John F. Doe.
Way back (we're talking really old days now) GMs used to let the user choose a nickname instead of an initial if you got two players with the same name. But that system was unfortunately misused (ppl bought a crappy player with the same name as their star player to get the chance to give their star a nickname. When the star player had gotten his nickname the user fired the crappy player...).
I think nicknames are fun, but letting users give their players nicknames themselves is to open up Pandora's box. Sure, most of them would be ok, but a huge amount will be totally unappropriate and GMs have enough to do as it is already.

Reply to (7831762.49) I'm just wondering about the economy in ht. what is the long term goal of it as you see it ? Because as is right now , training isn't very productive because you buy expensive and beyond , let's say, extraterestrial , you'll sell very cheap because of the wages. So... are you planning to use this to limit the old teams, instead of reseting every thing and so that it would be a fair competition ? I sense two questions here, or at least it will be two answers. About the long term goal of the economy first: it is to have a stable background economy where the amount of money per team should be slowly increasing. This to make sure that there always should be room to further development for the general team.
About the wages, yes they do set a barrier for how good a team can get. This is, as you're more or less are saying, to lower the importance of how long you've played the game. If every team would be able to pay the wages for divine players, then team age would be the most important thing and newer teams would never ever be able to catch up and compete with older teams. In the end, that would be a boring game...
So, the wages look like they do for a reason. They're there to make Hattrick a game where team age isn't the most important thing in the long run. The wages also put a soft cap, instead of a hard cap, on team development. So there are not really an "ideal" team (the perfect team you could have got without breaking the hard cap), instead manager skill determine how good you are building the perfect team. Wages set the barrier depending on how much money you make, so it's up to you as a manager to get as much as possible for the money you got. There lies your real challenge.
A lof of users sometimes complain about the high wages etc, but what they forget is that it's the users who are in control over the wages as you produce and choose the kind of players you want.

Reply to (7831762.677) Dear Ht-crew, I have a queastion about penalties..
At the penalty shoooting after the overtime the plaryers's scoring and technical are important. Under the first 90 min, only set pieces skill is importent for the penalty taker.
So do rules say now. But why? Or is it the same for the game and penalty shooting after overtime?? Do that meen that a goalkeeper with nice set pieces will score in the first 90 min, but then if it's penalty shooting he will miss due to his lack of scoring?? You're right in a way, ordinary penalties and penalty shoot-outs are calculated a little bit differently. During ordinary time (and extra time) the set pieces skill is all that matters when it comes to penalties. However, when it comes to a penalty shoot-out the players experience becomes important as well as scoring and if he's technical. To understand why we got to go back and check our history books:
In the old days many, many seasons ago penalty shoot-outs in Hattrick weren't even close to how penalty shoot-outs are in the real world when it comes to the amount of goals scored. In real life most penalties results in a goal as you know, but in Hattrick it was the oppositie. It wasn't that rare that only one player succeed to score, which made the whole shoot-out a little bit ridiculous. Why this happened had of course natural explanations; back then only set pieces skill mattered and at that time there weren't many players with set pieces skill over solid as noone trained that skill. So, if you had a player with good (solid or better) set pieces abilities - you had only one! So, as the players lacked in set pieces skill their penalties were often an easy catch for the goalies.
So, in order to make the penalty shootouts funnier (and more like irl) we made it easier to score. But we still wanted the result to depend on skill (and not make it overall easier to score). Therefore we made it so players also could benefit from their scoring skill and technical speciality. On top of that, the experience kicks in as maybe the most important thing of all. Because no matter how good set pieces taker you are, or how good you are in scoring...there's always a chance that you may get nervous. Too nervous.
To answer your final question: Do that meen that a goalkeeper with nice set pieces will score in the first 90 min, but then if it's penalty shooting he will miss due to his lack of scoring?? I hardly think he'll miss due to lack of scoring is if he's got nice set pieces abilities, but he might get nervous and miss of course.

Reply to (7831762.50), which was so long so I make the quotes here shorter: What are from your point of view the major challenges you are facing? Keeping the spirit of the core-community up, integrating as much users as possible,...? There are many challenges to face, but I think the biggest one is to further develop the challenge of the game. For some time we've focused, and also been forced to focus, on other areas of the game and the game world. That work has not been in vain, it's been very needed. As a result, Hattrick is more reliable and a much better game/community today. But on the other hand, not that much have happened to the core game - and that's I think our biggest challenge now.
To improve the core game is also a challenge of course as it must never be allowed to go too fast. So this is also something we must think about when adding things to the game, which is far from easy. Every new feature must fit in the current format, and at the same time change the current format - but not too much! But I think the new youth squad system will definately meet the standards here, it will be a totally new challenge and a bit different...but still fit in the current format.
Other major challenges are also the growth of users and promote/develop the community in my opinion.
Where do you see Hattrick in season 50? Just keep it running as smoothly as possible or do you have some visions or dreams on how a perfect game should look like - and what would that be? Oh, there are definately dreams and visions. The best part of it is that there are more dreams in the HT team today compared to just a year ago.
Anyway, we see a game which is still simplistic - the device will still be 'easy to learn, difficult to master'. To the simplistic game we've added more depth to both the core game and the game world, and also promoted more alternative career possibilities. With depth to the core game I'm talking about, at least first, to develop things already in the game a little bit further. For instance, there is still much to do with the psychological part of the team/game. We have fiery and honest players, and such stuff could play a bigger part. But the key here, to use the things already in the game and let them play a bigger and/or different part.
And If I'm allowed to really dream...it would be really cool to play matches live (really live!), where you could make (or pre-plan) substitutions and change tactic etc in the halftime break if both users agree on that. Of course, you should be able to chat with your opponent during the whole match. I think that's my wettest dream. :)

This is also a reply to similar questions but this one was the first of its kind in the questions thread.
Planned unannounced changes will be presented to everyone at the same time via My Hattrick, or at least that is what we always strive to do (…remembering some unfortunate premature releases for some languages, all by mistake of course).
So don’t expect any unannounced planned changes to be revealed here. What we might do is say “Yes, that is an interesting suggestion” or as Tjecken did above; dream a bit of possibilities. But don’t regard this as promises or as presentations of upcoming features.

Reply to (7831762.728) I would like to know, if there are any plans to fix the feature, which lets you translate your player's stats into other languages, because at the moment, when you do that, all you get is a mixture of your own language and the one you translated to, for example:
25 Jahre, poor in Form, healthy Er ist pleasant guy und darüber hinaus balanced und honest. Seine Erfahrung ist disastrous und seine Führungsqualitäten sind poor.
Nationalität: Trinidad & Tobago Total Skill Index (TSI): 140 Wage: 1 056 €/week einschließlich 20% Bonus Owner: Arminia Asendorf Verletzungsstatus: gesund
So we get quite a mix and that's a little confusing. I know it's not a big problem, but since all the needed vocabulary is already there for each language, it can't be that hard to fix.
It’s actually a feature.
If all words were translated you might not know which words are denominations and which are other words, in case you don’t know the language at all.
Depending of what you expect the function will do you might think it’s a bug but it actually isn’t.
It works as it’s supposed to however there can always be discussed if it would be a better and more useful function if all the words were translated.

It stops a lot of double postings which otherwise would plague the conferences and guestbooks. The post may be written to the database but the page to be shown afterwards load a bit slow and eager managers push the “Send”-button again, and again. And we end up with the same post two or more times. This is one in my opinion very good aspect of this function and remembering how it sometimes looked before it was introduced I feel it still serves its purpose.
Of course there are times when it feels unnecessary, the new page has been loaded all right and everything and still you get restrained by this feature but there are positive sides with it too, for sure.

Reply to (7831762.787) One possibility of forcing managers to think multiple skills would be to have a skill roof. F.example if you think that each skill has 10 steps (I'm not talking about training steps). When you have trained divine 100%, you would have to train other skills to improve the player. I understand that this would be a major overhaul, and perhaps if not impossible, difficult and controversial to do. Is this something you might consider? Point is that we don't want to force anyone to train their players in a certain way. We don't want to force users to train multiskilled players, but we have taken actions to promote that kind of training because we want a huge variety of players. Forcing ppl to train multiskilled players will not favor a huge variety of players as noone would train singleskilled players in that case. It's not like we think there's anything wrong with singleskilled players, they have their place in this game too.
So no, we will not implement a skill roof. How players are trained are up to the managers to decide, and if you choose to train multiskilled players you will get a better performing player for almost the same wage. That's the benefit. You don't have to do it, but you'll get more out of the same wage if you do it.
My reason for this is the high salary on players that are trained god-knows-how-much levels above divine. This would bring a tactical aspect to the game Well, I would say a skill roof would bring a tactical aspect less (or several in fact) to the game as you will not need to think about how to train your player. You don't need to think about when to stop train your player in a certain skill, the roof will take care of that. And if you don't need to think how to train your players in the best way, then I would say we lost a bit of manager skill and tactic/strategic decisions.
We've left this decision (how to train your players) to the managers, where the wage works like a soft cap (or a soft roof). A soft cap means managers need to make tactical and strategic decisions when training their players. You need to decide when to stop train a certain skill in order to be able to pay their salaries, or when you think you'll get the maximum amount of money for them on the transfer. Or if you should begin to train another one of his skill and get a multiskilled player, which will give you a better performance on the pitch without increasing the salary that much.
Just because it's possible to train a player to divine doesn't mean it's the best thing to do.

Reply to (7831762.508) In real life a very good player likes to play in the top division and have to be paid a lot to accept playing in a lower one. Thus wages are naturally a function of the division a player plays in (the lower division the higher the wage).
What do you Hts think about implementing this in hattrick? This is on the same topic as my last answer, so I'll take this right away.
I think something like this would be a bad thing to implement in Hattrick as team age would be made too important, newer teams wouldn't stand a chance to catch up. Moreover, it would also make it more difficult to promote as the teams in the higher division can afford better players.
That said, you are able to make more money in a higher division in Hattrick as it is today, but then you need to perform too. However, in order to let newer teams catch up we can't let top divisions (where there are mostly older teams) have such benefits - then they would always be superior as they would be able to make more money than teams in lower divisions and also pay lower salaries.

Reply to (7831762.420) I have bot more personal, however serious question. The HT's are the founding fathers of Hattrick. You are experts in the game and know every detail and tactic. How is possible that your private teams are relatively unsuccesfull? You never won the cup or the national championship and none of you play at the highest level in Sweden.
Are you just being polite?
What do the higher ranked teams better than you? Björn used to say that he played the game how it was supposed to work, but the best managers play the game as it really works. I think that's still a valid point.
This isn't about us being polite or so, I think our unsuccessfulness mostly depends on two things: - Even if we know a lot about the game, we don't have enough time to spend (or choose not to spend it) on our teams as we have so many other things to do when we're logged in. - Appearantly there are better managers than us in the world. At least when it comes to playing Hattrick.

Reply to (7831762.339) Now that the transfer market has totally destroyed most teams finances, thanks in large to transfer compare.
What steps are HT taking to inject a bit of life into it again or are you happy with where it is at this stage ? I don't think for a minute that transfer compare is behind the falling prices on the transfer market. If it has an impact, it's a very, very small one. What it does is that it evens out the price level, which means you'll not get that much more than normal for a player - but on the other hand you'll not get that much less either. Without TC we should see a lot more fluctuation in the price level, meaning you might get a lot more than normal...but also risk getting a lot less than normal.
That said, of course transfer compare is far from perfect. There are skill combinations which it doesn't pay attention to, so one can of course discuss its merits even though I think it mostly works as intended ("a guide" for newer users). Nevertheless, one can't really blame the falling prices on transfer compare. The biggest factor behind the falling prices is the player supply being too big at the moment, which mostly depends on that the user growth rate percentage-wise has slowed down (so there are fewer new clubs to sell your trainees to) and that the players careers have been a bit too long.

Reply to (7831762.824) With regard to a training cap, and high wages at the highest levels of player skill, you said that this provided additional choice and options to the managers. I agree with you in principle, but what is the HT position with regard to the National Teams? The presence of ultra-expensive divine+++ players has created an NT system where the only way to train an NT player is to ruin your team. I know you would like to say that this is a valid way of playing the game, but please, think about it. This isn't a valid way of playing the game, it's a valid way of quitting the game. Maybe the HT team should spend some time thinking about how to keep NT's for players who wish to continue playing? I'll better take the "last chapter" on the wages while I'm at it, and this question serves my intention.
As you say, the National Team system is a bit contraproductive to the soft wage cap system. Shortly put, NTs benefit from using very highly skilled players, players any normal team can't afford. But as NTs don't have to pay any wages etc the soft cap system doesn't step in and deal with this. unfortunately this means that there is an incentive to train players several levels above the level where normal teams would've stopped, which then creates some problems in the game like farm teams and the so called divine trick.
This means that we got two different types of "the best players in the world", for NTs it's the "most skilled players" and for any normal team the best player is "the most skilled player still affordable". It would be nice if we just had one type of "best player".
We've been discussing doing something with the NT system (and the elections), and the issue is still up for discussion. On the other hand we don't think these issues are big problems, they do affect only a small minority of users. It's not like we ignore these problems, but there are other, more important, things to improve/fix in our eyes at the moment.

Reply to (7831762.532) I would be interested about the HTs working day and the atmosphere in the office?
Do some of you guys prefer the "nine to five schedule" or are you all working more on a flexitime? Do you go to lunch together or is everyone eating at home? Do you spend some freetime together as well? Are all of you "friends"? Do you take care of Sarah or is it vice versa? ;) Are there other people working (internships, janitors...)? How was christmas party? Most of us try to work according to a nine to five schedule, but we don't always succeed. :) All of us have the opportunity to work whenever we want and whereever we want, so we do have a lot of freedom in that sense. On the other hand I think most of us spend a lot more than 8 hours at work every day, but that's partly because we enjoy what we do too.
The atmosphere at the office, where most of us try to spend the day, is fantastic. It's great fun to come here everyday as you usually laugh a lot. We're all about the same age, so I guess that helps too. We eat lunch together, and we also take some breaks to play Guitar Hero. Sometimes we also team up on evenings to play board games (History of the world is the favorite game, and been so for a very long time) and drink a few beers. Our christmas party this year was liked that in fact, we ate some nice food and played a lot of games until 4 am in the morning. :)

Reply to (7831762.692) Hello, i would like to know how many, and witch countries will be introduced next season? If there are any new countries?
This is a question that always gets its answer when the time comes. Which, if any, new countries are added depends on if we’ve seen enough interest from that country.
Some might say “But what about this or that country, not many users at all, why did you add it?” Well, sometimes it’s hard to know what the future will hold with a certain new country.
For instance; there are smaller countries with few user but lots of more people in that country are playing Hattrick. How can that be? It’s because when they applied there were no domestic league and they could therefore apply in another league. And since teams can’t be moved they have to choose between starting from scratch with a new team when their coTotry gets an own league or stay where they are.

Reply to (7831762.877) What do you think about increasing the number of teams in the same group? It will be more realistic and (In my opnion) more fun to play against a bigger number of teams.
This questions/suggestion comes from time to time. The main reason behind having “just” 8 teams in each group is that it gives excitement to all or close to all in that group during the whole season. You’re always close to leading/having to qualify/escape degradation and so on. With more teams in the group there would be more “safety” but also a risk of boredom if you’re kind of stuck in the middle not close to either end of the table, or perhaps if your stuck in the bottom you’d be that for more weeks. This could of course be tweaked by changing the number of team promoted and so on.
We also have to take in consideration how long a season should be. Extra teams means longer season, at least 4 weeks extra for 2 extra teams per group (and there would be at least 2 since odd numbers wouldn’t be a very good idea) and that would have implications for new managers for instance. For a new manager taking charge of a team in the bottom of his group table I think every extra week until the new season, and a fresh start on “equal” terms, counts. Here you might object saying that the tempo could increase, meaning we play 2 league matches every week instead of 1. But, we’re quite happy with today’s tempo, it’s part of the Hattrick concept that you don’t have to log in every day to enjoy the game (but that there are things to do everyday if you like to, like watch a match, youth pull, use the conferences, keep an eye on the transfer and so on).
To every problem there is of course a solution and it might seem as I’m just pointing out the downsides (and I guess I am…) but I wanted to show some of the things that we need to take into consideration. Every (suggested) change has it’s up- and downsides and we have to think about how the change effects other things, what the change would “cost” (in time and effort) and what it would bring to the game. These and more technical things like re-writing a whole lot of code makes a change like the one you suggested quite a big one. I guess we shouldn’t say it’ll never ever happen but it doesn’t seem likely looking back at earlier discussions about this.

Reply to (7831762.483) What is your opinion about AoA (ALL out Attack) and the abuse of Offensive Central Defenders?? its a way of play, Or is it a change to think about the future? My mind is trying to decide what to think about it, half of it says it's boring and half of it says the AoA tactic's "success" is more because a lot of ppl fail tactically (imho) when facing an all out attack team. Generally speaking we want as many tactics as possible, but non should let be totally superior compared to the others. The same goes for strategies in the game by the way - the more the merrier.
The all out attack tactic is an extreme one, but it's not superior. In fact it's far from superior. And as long as it's not superior, why should we limitate its existance? As I said above, imho this tactic's success is more a result of poor tactics from their opponents then the AoA tactic being good. If you let an AoA team dominate the midfield completely, you've got to have a very good defense together with good CA rating and a big portion of luck to succeed. There are a lot of defensive teams doing this (totally let the other team dominate the midfield), but then you'll have to accept that you will have a very hard time (no matter how good defense you've got) to keep the ball out of the danger area for 90 minutes. Eventually a shot may touch a leg, change direction and the goalie can just watch as the ball goes into the net.
In theory, Hattrick tactics is about three things: - Getting as many chances as possible - Make sure your chances turn into goals - Make sure your opponents chances fail When facing a AoA team you don't really have to think about the success of your own chances that much. As your attackers won't face any defenders you'll easily score - when you get a chance. More importantly is not letting the AoA team get so many chances, or at least make sure you've got a good chance to get a few. It's of course also very important to have a good defense, moreover a good defense might also create chances (if you choose to play counter attacks).
So to sum up, you need a good midfield in order to get some chances, and also reduce your opponent's chances. You'll also need a good defense in order to stop your opponent to score, which also could be used to get some more chances of your own. You'll however not need much of an attack as you're likely to score anyway. Still I see a lot of teams playing with 2 forwards when facing an AoA team (as if they're facing a team with a real defense..?) and just 3 defenders (as if your defense isn't of importance against an AoA team..?).
Defense does matter, it matters a lot. But you can't just rely on your defense, just like no AoA team can rely simply on their attack. Unfortunately most defensive teams lack in midfield and/or attack. The nature of defending is to defend, therefore it is naturally hard to win matches only out of your defense as defenders don't attack that much. Imho many defensive team managers wish to win because of their defense, and that's imho their biggest mistake. After all, without any midfield/attack 0-0 is the best result they could wish for.
Anyway, as I said in the beginning of this post I also think this tactic is boring. Partly because it's not really close to realism, but more because so many teams use a tactic where one part of the team is totally ignored and are to some extent successful doing so. This is of course something we are and will keep an eye on, but as I think you understand from this post we think it's more because of poor manager choices than a poor game engine.

Reply to (7831762.992) I think a lot of managers spend most of their HT time in the internal forum system. The HT forum system is not so bad, but one thing is really missing, a search function! Are you thinking about this issue or probably about a new forum system? We've been thinking about a search function - yes, and I would also love that. The "only" problem with a search function is that it requires a lot of resources, resources we don't have at the moment. We've also been discussing other solutions like opening up the forums for reading for non Hattrick users, and that way allowing search engines to take care of it. But that's not a non-trivial thing either. But we know it's a very wanted feature, so it's more or less always on our agenda and will remain there in the future too.

The conference system will of course also be constantly improved with the new features in the future, just as the rest of the games will. Exactly what and when is something I can't answer on right now. But a post count will never be implementet as we've seen the downside of such feature elsewhere (ppl start to compete by posting nonsense posts, just to be "the one with the most posts"). It's not the quantity of posts that matter, it's the quality. So, a rating system has a chance to get implemented.

Reply to (7831762.243) There people used to be *money-rich* so the stadium enlargement cost was increased to higher levels, that was reasonable then.
Nowadays; however, people are not that old *money-rich* and it, at least in my opinion, should be somehow arranged for real.
In addition, people used to gain much money in short time and had already built their stadium , even maximized to upper-level capacity with lower price. However, some 1-2 year HT-users cannot get any benefit from this however, old ones benefited much already! Stadium enlargement costs are on a reasonable level compared to the income you get from sponsors, spectators etc. The different sources of income were increased a couple of times before we increased the arena enlargement costs.
But you got a point, even though I don't agree that the enlargement costs are a problem for newbies. Deciding how and when you should enlarge your arena is meant to be a very strategic decision/moment, therefore the costs must be "relevant" compared to your income. It shouldn't be too easy (and of course not too difficult either). Today I think it's on a good level, so the problem isn't really on the "newbie side" imho.
What is kind of boring though is that you get to a point where your stadium is finished, and then that strategic decision/moment isn't relevant anmyore. For example I finished my arena back in 2001 and now I don't have to think about it at all (to be honest I guess I should make it a little bit smaller, but that's another story...). And frankly, I miss it and from a gaming point of view it's not really optimal to have a strategic moment which just disappears in thin air after some time.
So, I know many users feel that new users are paying too much to enlarge their arena and that the pay-back time is too long. I respect that opinion, but I don't agree. I don't think it's unfair because older teams paid less money for their arena, they also had less income at that time. But what's sad is that the arena sooner or later become a non-issue for teams, and that's something we could look into and see if we maybe should change anything.

It's not like getting that kind of data should be impossible, but we haven't collected such kind of data in the past so we don't have anything to compare with. Further more I don't see the point in collecting that kind of data either, from our point of view the amount of 'dinosaurs' isn't really important and that change wasn't really a change intended to stop them from being produced either. Collecting such kind of data would of course require some resources/capacity, even if I can't say how much. But in that case I can definitely see us using those resources in a better way.

Further more one must always remember that all limitations for trading make the market work worse, which affects all teams in terms of lower prices and most likely also lower revenues. That doesn't mean we'll restrain from doing anything if we think it's necessary, but that's one thing you'll have to keep in mind too.

Reply to (7831762.744) Would you change the absurd training system in the way we can train any player in a way not dependent of the formation.
For example: Could we in a future train 6 forwards without having to field any X-X-3 formations with 6 different players.?. That's something we've discussed from time to time, to let at least some part of the training not be ruled by where a player played in his last match. I don't think the whole system will change, but we have discussed that you maybe could have one "free training slot" (meaning= if you train forwards and want full training (six fw) you only need to play one match with 3 fw and one match with at least 2 fw) or something similar. Training more or less decides which formation you use, so a change could open up for a little bit more 'freedom' in the formation choice which could be good for the game.
There are also some other ideas to consider if/when we want to spice up the old training system, like for example having "bonus points" to spend in a sort of extra training. To be honest I guess we can say that right now no idea to spice up the training has been finally dismissed (well, except for the really bad ones :)) and none has been decided upon either. But personally I find the above idea quite interesting.

I was wondering if there will be worked on improving the club 'economy' page. I'd love to see more detailed information.
- How much did i spend on putting players for sale? - How much income from my friendly? - How much income from my cupmatch? - How much for my league match? - How much pulling a youth player? - How much on building my stadium? etc
Why throw certain costs/revenues on a heap? The info is to be found, but why do we have to plow through our 'club' page or transfer histories etc, when it could be summarized on a single page?
Personally i especially miss a feature that gives an overview of the season so far, and the season as a whole.
Would this be hard to implement? I don't know how hard (or easy) it would be, but I like both ideas and especially the latter and it doesn't sound that complex to me (even if I don't know much about such stuff). I'll put this on the "possible improvements for the future"-list.

That makes a lot of peoble sad because there are the leaguegames in switzerland and germany, to of the bigest countries in HT. You actually answer your own question more or less. Two of the biggest coTotries in Hattrick play their matches on Saturday afternoons, which mean a lot of users are online at the same time as the game engine should play a lot of matches. The first roTod of the cup on Tuesdays and Wednesdays are also evenings when we peak in the number of online users, which basically means the servers get a lot to do except just playing matches.
As you might understand it's unfortunately during those hours "small" software and hardware problems, which normally isn't a problem at all, can turn into a biiig problem. Reply to (7926938.183) We had a misunderstanding in our "questions (german) forum". (7957283.1) It deals with the question, if it is possible to get training with a 3-3-4 formation! The translation of the official rules say that it can be and not that it is impossible. LA-EasternEagle told us, that there is no possibility for any training. But one user tells us the opposite. So, as far as I know, there won't be any training when playing such a formation.
Who is right? Actually, both are in a way right. If you use an extreme formation you risk to lose training. This is what the rules (chapter 12) says about this: "Absence of training effect - If you use an extreme formation (for example 7 defenders), the confusion caused might be so total that the training for the whole week and any possible experience gains from the match are lost. Note that this risk only occurs when you have at least 2 players more than the default in one part of the team, like 6 defenders or 4 forwards"
So, it is indeed possible to get training with a 3-3-4 formation. However, it's not very likely and I wouldn't recommend it. The system is after all designed not to benefit the use of extreme formations.

Reply to (7831762.919) What is the HT policy regarding skill and day trading? I know that in the past you practically tried to eliminate it but I heard recently some other voices. We have never really tried to eliminate trading, but we've made some restrictions in order to make trading less profitable.
If you look at the total picture (the whole game that is) we want it to be possible to use different strategies, where trading is one of them. None of these strategies shouldn't be let to be too superior compared to the others though (which trading happened to be in the past and that's why we restricted it). On a general note all good strategies should alone allow you and your team to climb upwards, but to reach the very top and stay there you might need to use many different strategies.
I can more or less guarantee that trading to some extent always will be a strategy to use in Hattrick, but how profitable it will be and what restrictions it will have/get is a completely different issue. As I think you're aware of there are users who still think the profit you can get from trading is too big, thus making trading too superior to other strategies. Other users' opinions are that many ppl trade, but few of them are succesful - so it's not that much of a problem. I think it's safe to say that trading will always be an issue worth discussing - a hot potato as we say in Sweden - and we will always follow the discussions as well as the general development of the trading trend.
However, if I should phrase a short policy about this it should be: "Trading is ok as long as it's not too superior compared to other strategies."

Reply to (7926938.237) One thing i love about soccer is the ability to use tactics. In hattrick you can only have 3 tactic formations at the same time. Are you ever going to get rid of the formation experience?
building up enough experience so that you wouldn't lose experience. I like the idea that i can surprise an opponent using a formation he doesn't expect. One should never say never, but I hardly think we'll ever get rid of the formation experience.
I think one can endlessly debate on if formation experience make the game more tactical or less tactical, I for one says it makes the game more tactical. If you can't foresee (well, at least have a clue) how your opponent will play, then how to know which tactic you should use against him? If we get rid of the formation experience then you'll have to guess and rely on luck on which formation your opponent will use, which means your tactical choice is in fact less tactical as it relies on pure guessing. I also think formation experience is kind of realistic. Not that realism is the most important thing in a game, but it's for sure not a bad thing either.
Moreover I think that many users are too afraid for surprising an opponent with a new formation. Even with the lowest formation experience you can get away without any confusion - read the rules for advice. Secondly, even if you get some confusion it's not always that bad - it may pay off anyway. One possible thing is also to use the new formation in a friendly a week in advance, just one match gives a lot of experience.

Reply to (7831762.620) (...)I would suggest the creation of a new class of GM: the Internal Affairs game master (IA-username?). This person would watch over other staff members' actions, rulings and behavior, which IMHO would highly improve the trust of non-staff users in the staff's work and decisions. I must admit, I'm not even sure if this "Internal Affairs" division already exists - maybe as a very-very-very secret class for only a few GMs around the world. :P
Anyway, that's not an actual question. So mine is: have you even considered to come up with something like this? If positive, can we hope to see it work in a short time? We haven't only considered it, GMs like that are already in place for quite some time now. They are not that visible however, but that's one thing which is up for discussion now. Making them more visible would be a very good thing for users' trust in staff members, so I hope we can find a system (which works!) for that.

Reply to (7926938.273) There is problem with "osmosium" training in the rules. If he didn't play in either match, he won't be affected by the week's training activities very much at all.
And on the other hand in same page:
Gus O'Gumby didn't play on either Sunday or Wednesday. He doesn't improve his skill.
So which one is correct information? If my player just stay in my team, like my clown get he no training at all or a little training? All players get 'osmosis' training.
After all, the effect of the osmosis training is very osmotic, hence the wording in the rules (your first quote). The other quote is really an example with the idea of keep it simple for new players. But I guess one can add the word "much" to make it more consistent.

Reply to (7831762.103) 1. Have you been thinking about eliminating the random factor from stamina training?
It's quite annoying to see my wingers having less stamina after 4 seasons, just because they refuse to take part in stamina training. As stamina drops constantly, it should increase constantly as well. I think it's important to make one thing clear here: If you train stamina all players receive stamina training, even if it's not always a whole skill step (sometimes it's a little bit more than a whole step, and sometimes it's a little bit less).
Secondly, stamina drops aren't constant either as they to some extent also depend on the random factor. So, in that sense both stamina training and stamina drops are quite similar.

Reply to (7831762.118) Without wanting to question your neutrality, which nevertheless my subconscience does, it always brought my attention how "politics is not allowed" and yet everyday I see many politically left-wing team names / arena names being allowed or not being removed/changed, even of dictatorships such as communism, where as the other "wing" of politics is permanently forbidden to the smallest appearance/sign. Political names are ok, but political discussions on the conferences are not - so I think you (and maybe others too) have misunderstood things.
In fact, we would love to allow political discussions on the general forums too. Unfortunately it looks like subjects like that can't be discussed in a sensible and respectable way on general forums, so we had to put an end to it (hence the conference rule). Political discussions are however allowed within federations.
There are however some rules about names which could be considered to border to politics. But, quite naturally imho, we don't allow names which could be linked to nazism, fascism or rascism for example. One can say that we allow political names as long as they can be considered human. For example FC Communism is ok, but FC Stalin is not.
If you spot a name which you don't find appropriate, please report it to the GMs (Help --> Contact us).

Reply to (7831762.304) We know that in order to get counter attacks (from the tactics) the team has to be less dominant in the field. Can a team who gets more than 50% at the beginning of the match but falls to less than that receive counter attacks after the drop? meaning - is it theoretically possible to see a match with 2 teams getting tactical counter attacks? Yes, that is possible. The right to counter attack can go back and forth between the two teams because of injuries, tiredness and red cards. The determing thing to get a counter attack is if you're less dominant (less than 50% ball possession) in that very moment of the game (in practice the game engine recalculate the possession after injuries, substitutions, increase of tiredness etc).

Reply to (7831762.705) I have a question about corner-kicks. The rules simply state that the more 'head'-specialist you field the likelihood of bagging goals on corners rises. As the rules are quite clear on the issue I value SP-monsters with 'head' more than anything else. However, despite the clarity of the rules most managers seem to think that certain players are not taken into account (e.g. SP-taker and Goalie) when chances of bagging a corner are calculated. They seem to think the GE is so very complicated that every unlikely IRL event is neutralized by the GE.
Should we read the rules as they are written? Or are certain players excluded from the calculation? The goalie and the set-pieces taker in the attacking team are indeed excluded from "head"-counting when it comes to corners, as they for obvious reasons can't be in the penalty area at that time.
The rules are a little bit vague regarding this point, so I'll have a look at them right away.

What "other major feature prospects" are you referring to? Well, for example I can think of numbers of things to do with the psychological part of the game. Players' agreeability isn't used that much in the game, maybe that could play a bigger part? The same goes for other psychological values as honesty and aggressivity. Maybe certain types of players perform better when they play together, maybe a team's mix of psychological values should matter in some way?

The latter. I was not talking about the probability of getting a SE, I was talking about the outcome of the SE because that's how I interpreted the question.

Reply to (7926938.89). Why don't you allow managers to have their team in any country they want to? I think it would be a lot more fun, if existing managers could change country and new managers could apply a team in any country they wish. I believe that the number of active managers in the countries would tend to redistribute and that could in addition solve many problems that occur because of the deep gap between giant countries with 10 and more leagues and tiny countries with 3 of even less leagues. Frankly, Hattrick wouldn't be as fTo as it is without the community, the community adds a lot of fun to the game. Within a series/leagues ppl talk and discuss everything from the latest and upcoming matches, transfers and training in the series conferences. Moreover ppl also talk in private, in regional and national conferences. You also read each other press announcements etc. And in our opinion, without these things around the game Hattrick wouldn't be as fun to play.
In other words, building communities has always been a very important thing for us and building a community is much easier if people speak the same language. I mean, if you don't understand each other it's not that likely that you'll start talking to each other. Point is that you got a lot of things in common with your fellow gamers if you speak the same language, comes from the same country etc - and if you got things in common it's much easier to build communites. If ppl live quite close to each other it's also more likely that ppl start to meet in real life.
So in our opinion most users will play a funnier game and get a better game experience if we make sure they play with ppl from the same country.
Secondly we also think that letting ppl sign up for whatever league they want would've lead to most ppl signing up for a league/country which is very big in real life. For example I think a lot of Norweigans, Swedes, Finns etc signing up in England, which would have made the English league gigantic but the others quite small. So, we would have had a few gigantic leagues and then a lot of small ones and both the community feeling and the game experience would have suffered from such a situation in our opinion.

Reply to (7831762.268) It has been proven that transfer prices for players have been heavily decreasing over the past seasons, I am aware action has been taken to balance this out but will anything else be done or do you consider the HT economy balanced now? We, or rather the HCB (Hattrick Central Bank), are contantly following the economy. Again, we don't look that much on transfer prices (even it that may be interesting too), we're far more interested in the background economy. In general HCB's aim is that the money should be slowly increasing for the general Hattrick team, and to achieve that they may need to take actions to balance the economy (it shouldn't grow too slow, nor too fast) in the future too. As the economy also is depending on the amount of new users joining the game it's very likely that the HCB must take some actions (higher income or higher costs, or something else) in the future too.

Reply to (7926938.673) Is HT future having more and more features, demanding more and more time to play? I think it's a necessity to add more and more features to this game, otherwise it will not survive in the long run. That said, it's also important that the features we add don't require that much more time. And if we want to add a feature which may be time-demanding (which we'll only do if we're sure many users will like it) we should always make sure that such features are optional and not too superior to the 'basic' version. And the feature you're referring to (the new youth system) will be an example of the latter; an optional feature for the users who want to put in more time in the game for the fun of it. They may also earn something from the time invested in the youth team as they may end up with youth players with somewhat better secondaries, but the benefits must be kept on a fair level compared to the old system as there still will be users not willing to invest more time into the game. So I honestly think this feature fits very well in the old Hattrick philosophy.
While I'm at it, how much time you "need" to invest in a youth team will be vary a lot from user to user. Some will maybe invest some hours every week in it, others just some minutes. I guess it will vary just as much as in "ordinary" Hattrick, some users think some minutes a week is enough while others seem to see Hattrick as their (second) home. :)
A general answer to your question is that we don't want to add more very time-demanding obligatory features in the future. The game should still be playable even if you only want to give it some minutes every week, but it should also at the same time deliver something to those who want to put in more time into it.
Will (some) rules zig-zag every couple of months? No, never will and never really happened either. In fact, I consider the example you're referring to as a one time accident. A very teaching one for us HTs of course, we shouldn't allow such accidents to happen either. As I explained in the youth thread, we found a way which we thought would be the best for game even though we had earlier hinted in another way, so we had to choose between going for what we think is the best solution or stick to we said and live with a worse solution. We chose to go for the best solution even if we knew some users would be angry with us.
But I don't think one should make any general assumptions/conclusions from a one-time accident. The rules needed for you to make up your gaming strategies and similar decisions don't vary much, and if they do you do get information about it in advance. There are usually some new things to think about each season which may somewhat affect your gaming strategy, but each new thing is so small that it will not destroy any strategy by itself.

And how about the experience? Would a solid trainer with solid experience be worse than a solid trainer with divine experience? No, experience doesn't matter when it comes to trainers - if they're not supposed to play themselves of course. Experience only matters on the pitch, and if you want to turn a player into a trainer.

After having analysed thousands of games, I noticed that there is never any tactic-independent counter-attack for the team playing at home.
Is it a bug or a "hidden" feature ? It's been verified as a bug, but we haven't found the creepy crawler yet. Still searching for it. And now it's found and dealt with. The bug affected "only" one thing; home teams just couldn't get any non-tactical CAs. I guess the home crowd demanded too much out of the players, which made them so nervous that each and every counter attack attempt ended up as a disaster. :)

With the interest on money being eliminated almost all of the economists in the game will soon be fired. With that many economists out of work, is there any chance you can hire one, so you can stop monitoring "background economy" and realise that the game has been devastated by hyperdeflation? As mentioned in the latest editorial (it wasn't only about the youth academy) we're looking into the economy. Two different projects to analyse the state of things are up and running, one from a strict national economical point of view and another one from more of a gaming point of view.
However, whatever results these analysis come up with we will still need to monitor the background economy as Hattrick is not a "closed system".

I thought i read a time ago, that all offensiv skills are falling faster than the defensiv ones. Can you confirm this? The rules are in fact pretty darn good about this topic. All skills decrease differently (could be different in starting age, speed etc), but keepers are in general easier to maintain than scorers. I'm pointing at two tactical options: Play Creatively and Pressing. Does the match engine provide the special events, in the first case, and the lost chances, in the second case, evenly? Or does the one who uses this kind of tactics has more special event chances and the one who uses pressing is more likely to lose fewer chances than his opponent? (considering two identical teams) It doesn't matter who chooses to play these tactical options, chances are spread evenly anyway. When you play creatively, you got the same chance as your opponent to get a SE (so you better have good SE players) and when you play pressing you risk to lose just as many chances as your opponent.

Reply to (7831762.646) It is true that there is users who complain about high wages on the best players. My reason for it, isn't for the wages itself, but the fact that they create a certain strategy which has got a name by now; "Kamikaze", "Divine-Trick" to name a few.
My question is therefore: Do you HT consider this to be a problem? And if yes, have you anything in mind to solve the problem? I think it's perfectly ok to buy players for one game and similar, still I consider the phenomenon "divine trick" to be a problem even if it's not affecting that many users. It set the competion somewhat out of play, especially in the cup.
But thing is that it's not a problem itself, it's more a result of various other problems in the game - mostly economical ones, over-supply for example - and therefore not so easily solved. I don't believe in trying to cure the symptom, one usually just end up with other problems instead. It's much better to deal with the roots to the problem, even if that may take longer time, and as mentioned yesterday in this thread (and in the latest editorial) that's just what we're trying to do with these two studies from different angles.

Are the changes already definite or are you still discussing various options? We are still in the middle of discussing and analysing economical and game theories/facts, right now to the extreme. Can't say much more than that right now, as we haven't really made up our minds in what direction we should go next to reach our goals (and reach them through a fun journey). The economical changes we need will not just affect the economy, they will most likely also affect the game play. And then it's important not to make the game too complex. We must keep the simplicity and still add a lot to the challenge (and at the same time make sure the economy will benefit from it), which is not an easy equation as you understand. :)
But be sure that we will announce major changes to the game long before they become real, I just can't give you any definite date when that information will come. But we rather don't wait that long...

Currently, you can buy a player an hour before a game and he performs as if he had known his teammates forever. Except for the occasional team spirit drop, there is no drawback.
Is it a feature you are comfortable with or would you consider adjustments?
I think it favors money over planning and allows unfair surprises, especially now that there are so many high-level players sold at cheap transfer prices because of the salaries.
There is a routine for formations, couldn't there be a "routine" for individual players? It would make sense in my view that they don't perform at full potential immediately and need a few training sessions to get to know their teammates. Yes, we're pretty comfortable right now with this feature. One can always argue about it's not very realistic etc, but I think it fits quite well into the game experience.
At the moment there is, as you say, a problem with very high skilled players being sold for a cheap buck, which affects this feature a lot as your team can get a lot better within a few minutes (and the monetary cost for doing this isn't that big today). This is however in my opinion not a problem because of this feature, that's rather an economical problem. And as I've said before in this thread we prefer to solve the root of the problem than trying to cure the disease.
That said, this "routine" idea you mention here is an old idea which isn't totally abandoned yet (nor is it on the agenda though). One bad effect of it would probably be a negative impact on the market, which may in fact have a negative impact on the game experience. Adding realism isn't always good for a game, even if it of course might be. On the plus side on the other hand is that it encourages planning, and of course that it adds realism.

Reply to (8995830.16) Short version: Can we pretty-pretty-please, with sugar godis on top, have separate shirt numbers for National Teams? It's not that it's impossible to have separate numbers, but it's not exactly a walk in the park to add such a feature. I'll not rule it out for the future, I do like the role playing part of the game as you say, but it's not top priority for us. But if/when decide to do an overhaul of the national teams this might be a fine new feature to include.

Answer to (8995830.42) A few months ago, you said that the amount of money available per team was increasing correctly.
Is it still true? As a fact the money/team is, after many seasons' steady increase, slowly decreasing right now. But as I think you're aware of - we're always keeping an eye on those figures and especially now when we're doing our different economical studies.

Reply to (8995830.43) Personally I think the amounts of spectators varies to much to anticipate at with your team’s budget, when you’re teams expenses for the biggest part consists out of salaries, you're not able to cope with it easily. How do you think about making the amount of spectators less variable? I will definately not rule out such a change. The attendence figures is of course important when looking over the economy, so there might be some changes perhaps. That said variables is a must, and it should also reflect how good you're doing in your series. I guess there will always be people who think the attendence figures varie too much, and of course I can understand them too. Who likes a poor spectator figure after all?
After all things even out in the end, sometimes you get way more than you should get (and vice versa). Still, one could even out things more from the beginning - we'll think about it.

Reply to (8995830.145) Regarding years of official statements like "there is no deflation", and "we are monitoring the background economy and all is good", which are clearly nonsense when faced with facts like this graph (www.lokesoftware.dk/ham/hamtpestatsg.cfm?Skill=1&Level=14):
On a scale from 1 to 10, how embarrassed are you for having fiddled while Rome burned? Not embarrassed at all, and frankly I see no reason to either even though I can understand that some of you think we should be.
The quote "there is no deflation" was always related to the background economy (money/team), even though the term deflation is not 100% correct to use in this specific case. And the amount of money/team increased steadily for a very, very long time. It's in fact quite recently that the trend started to point in the opposite direction.
The graph you refer to does not show the background economy (incomes/expenses), but it gives a good picture of the price development on the transfer market which one can fairly say hasn't been the funniest thing to look at. But that's a fact we haven't tried to hide at all, nor have we said that much about it.
I hope we never ever see the 'golden days' again where you bought players for ridiculously high prices, but of course I don't think the price level (and trend) today is any better. It should be profitable to train players on monetary basis (it's always profitable to train players as training improves your performance on the pitch), but at the same time it shouldn't set other incomes/costs aside which was the fact some time ago.
Looking back one can always say we should've reacted and started up our economical investigations earlier than what we did. But it's always much easier to look back and find errors when you got all facts in your hand. I wish we would have started them up earlier or done more powerful changes (even though the facts, apart from the transfer price trend, didn't really give that picture at that time), but I'm not embarrassed because we didn't.

This was a function promised by the HTs when the youth squad was implemented, and it does not work. Back again after summer holidays, which unfortunately wasn't announced as it should've been. Sorry about that.
Reply to (8995830.344) What about the bidprices for such a special player ? Is it allowed to buy such special players for more money than what is considered to be overpriced according to his skills ? Will I get a fine ? Will the seller be punished (received less money) ? Could I be banned for this ?
For example : 1) I want to buy a player which has my real name (but no skills whatsoever). I would definitely buy him and maybe for much more than another user would pay for him
2) What about a player with a famous name (singer, footballer, ...) ? I can assume a lot of female managers want to have Brad Pitt in their team ;-) This would definitely create a bidwar (even though he has no football skills ;-)) , so how high can you overbid ?
The rules are quite clear on this point: "all bids should be in relevance to what could be considered reasonable for the player in question". How do we interpret this then, because what's reasonable for you may not be reasonable for me - something your first example pretty much shows. Cause I wouldn't pay anything for no-skilled player with your name, but you may.
But in fact this isn't really that hard as it looks, except for one thing which I'll save to last. But if you pay more than the market consider being normal it's an overbid. It's the GMs who make sure this rule is followed. One can say there are two types of overbids, those where no cheating are involved and those where cheating (giving favours to another team, which often is managed by the same person for some reason...) are involved.
Your examples are both of the first type. and what GMs do in that case is to do what they always do: They look at the market and check what this kind of player is normally worth. Now, if the player is worth 0 noone will care if you buy him for 1-2000€. I guess noone will care even if you buy him for 10000€. What's really interesting here is that anyone selling a 'nobody' shouldn't benefit just because of his name, hence why GMs deduct money from the seller if it's an overbid. So in theory you can pay how much you want for such a player, as the seller don't benefit from it. Paying that much for a player like that would however be pretty stupid of course.
The other type of overbids, where cheating is involved, require other actions (lock and fines etc) from GMs. Those cases are often pretty obvious and fairly easy to handle.
What's so hard then? The hard thing is for GMs to evaluate transfer price adjustments, cause the seller may be somewhat angry as someone takes "his" money. It's also pretty hard to say exact how much a player is worth. It's wise as a seller in an overbid case to report this directly to the GMs, for two reasons: Less frustration and more importantantly that a lack of report may add some suspicion to the case.
In the GM organization there are however persons who constantly follow the transfer market who help out in cases like this. And even if you'll never know exactly how much a player is worth we can always come pretty close, and GMs are rather kind when doing these evaluations.

Reply to (8995830.355) this might be a severe topic.. I recently noticed some obscure things going on in the youth academy!
I dont think that too many kids are so precocious at the age of 15, but no player of the youth-academy has got a beard! not the 17 or 18yo players either!
but what wil be later? when they are picked for the a-squad? or when they celebrate their 20th birthday? will they still stay beardless then? will nobody grow a beard anymore?
Or is now growing a beard for players even prohibited by the HFA as well? :D Our first plan was to make it mandatory for youngsters to have pimples. :)
We had thoughts about making a special set of faces for youths, and that thought is not all abonded. But we soon realized that such a feature wouldn't make it to the first version, after all it wasn't the most important thing. So, we postponed youth faces for the future and for the time being we'll have to live with our bearded youth "aliens".

Reply to (8995830.365) Would it be possible to change the team assignment routine into a system that encourages retention rather than discourages it? For example, using a "horizontal fill" in the lowest division where new teams are assigned evenly across the division instead of the "vertical fill" where new teams are all assigned into the same series at the same time? The vertical fill system has made it devastatingly difficult to retain new players in the US for years. It's technically possible and also something we should absolutely consider. The first time in a game is very important, if you think it's dull (for whatever reason) you'll hardly stay for long. I would also like to discuss this issue with the community to hear what you think about this, especially the part of it leagues should be filled "vertically" or "horizontally", because I see pros and cons with both.

As the tactic play creatively increases the chances for SEs to happen, it doesn't affect these coToterattack events as they're not SEs.

Reply to (8995830.502). What do you intend to do with the promotion/relegation system? Income doesn't encourage managers to play in higher leagues. They prefer to stay in lower leagues, because they know, that only there they can continue their winning streaks and receive better income. There should be higher attendance in higher leagues, even if the team is not doing so well and it stays on 5th, 6th or 7th place. But here it is, sadly, not the case. It is better to play in a lower league on places 1st-3rd. Rewards (promotion bonuses) are peanuts. I know the myth says so, but you are in fact wrong. Generally playing in a higher division give more income (even if you end up in 7th place) than playing in a lower division.
This was also proved by the community here in global (originally from Germany if I recall correctly though) some months ago, so this myth is busted. I can't find the thread right now, but hopefully someone can help me point it out (send me a HT-mail if so) so I can paste it into this message.

Reply to (8995830.820) tell me pls who is criterion for LA and La team?
macedonian ht comunity dont have jet own language. we have several attempts.first in LA team have someone baned from conferece and that team was rejected. second time some one from another la team have qualification for english language ``inadequately`` ...ect ect The criteria to become part of the staff is first of all being a helpful, mature, respectful and trustworthy member of the Hattrick community. You should also have respected the Hattrick rules, especially the conduct rules. Strictly speaking you should have a "clean record" (or at least very, very close to clean).
For a LA it's also necessary to have good English skills, as well as good skills in the language he/she should translate to. Language skills are very important for LAs, without the sufficient skills one might end up with a bad translation and in worst case a false translation.
About Macedonian we've at least two proposed LAs apart from the first LA team (which we unfortunately had to dissolve for violating the conduct rules), but none of them have met the demands. We would very much want a Macedonian language version, so we're eagerly awaiting a good LA proposal.

Reply to (8995830.500) Will the expected changes in match engine - to promote multiskill players - weaken, or even completely eliminate "Norge" tactics? First of all I think it's important to say that it's a good thing for the game if you can use many different tactics, the more the merrier. Hence our aim shouldn't be to reduce the number of tactics, quite the opposite. But at the same time the use of extreme tactics (such as the Norge tactics) shouldn't be too successful
What is too successful then? Well, the use of an extreme tactic (playing with defense only, or attack only - more or less neglecting part of the team) should pay off occasionally, but not in the long run. So it should be possible to take a chance by using an extreme tactic and actually pull it off, but most of the times it should fail (if the opponent is using a team/tactic good enough of course).
I think this actually works quite good today, extreme tactics isn't good in the long run. The "Norge tactics" (strong midfield and attack, no defense) has however become a very popular tactics and some believe it's too powerful. The reason for its "success" is however more related to the fact that users fail in their tactic choices when facing an all-out-attack team than something being actually wrong in the game engine. Naturally most users think it's funnier to make a lot of goals and don't spend that much money on their defense, which makes the situation easier for all-out-attack teams. And of those who focus on the defense many just skip the midfield/attack and focus on the defense only - a tactic which is in fact even more extreme and therefore even worse to use.
But back to the original question now: No, the coming changes in the game engine will not completely eliminate extreme tactics. But yes, the coming changes will weaken the effect of them. We want to promote the use of multiskilled players and make it desirable to have a (at least) doubletrained players in every position, which means we're looking into the contribution for different positions and see how different training decisons pay off. For example it should be more desirable to use a wing back trained in both defending and winger instead of just one of the skills (and play the single-skilled defensive (or offensive) with a decent result) - even if you'll always have that (worse) alternative.

Reply to (8995830.849) Is Youth Academy working as intended?
Ie. is it producing players equal in quality to Youth Squad but more multi-skilled? Is it even producing similar players than YS? Evidence points to YA pulls being clearly inferior to YS pulls. Both yes and no.
The Youth Academy players are suffering from their managers being too impatient. Managers are so eager to get a fine 17 year old but very few players are actually ready to be promoted at that age - so their impatience and greed hit them right back in the face. In the old youth system fantastic 17 year old players are very rare and that's still the case (but in theory the new system opens up for more (multiskilled)). This is a big problem indeed, but on the other hand it's not the only answer to this problem. I do believe that youth academy players' non-trained skills are too low when promoted to the senior squad, because you can't really train them all.
But even if we increase the probability to get higher skill levels on non-trained skills we still have the problem with managers' impatience, and to do something about that I think we need to educate them better. Ie make them understand that their players not necessarily should be promoted as soon as they turn 17. The best way of doing this is perhaps to make the whole youth academy feature easier, as I think it's too hard today. I think making it somewhat easier will also make it funnier to use/play. This is something we will look into more thoroughly the coming season(s), right now we're quite busy working on the promised 'multiskill changes'.

do I get more hints if I stop playing that keeper (or in general, players that have good potential but I do not train) Your YA trainer will tell you if you got talented players in your squad who can be good to train, or if they benefit from another type of training than the one you've chosen. Still you need to make a decision what (and which players) to train as you can't train them all - if you don't choose the 'individual' training type of course. But to answer your question: Yes, in general you will get more hints if you got players with good potential which you don't train.

Essentially, the coach has three abilities: Tactics: "Offensive", "defensive" or "neutral", affecting the teams' performance during the game. Skill: ... Leadership: ...
The tactics abilities only influence the ratings of defence/attack or has some other kind of influence during the game? I don't need to know what it is, i just like to know if the influence is only on ratings. Thanks A coach ability (def/off/neutral) "only" affects the teams performance on the pitch, ie the team ratings.

Reply to (8995830.999) Why is defending being made important for a goalkeeper instead of passing?
I can image that passing is very handy for a goalkeeper. I guess a goalie should be able to pass a ball to a teammate. First of all, the skill "passing" doesn't mean passing the ball in general, it's all about giving the decisive pass.
That said, passing could very well become an important skill for goalkeepers in the future (but if so it would add to the counter-attack rating I guess). We picked defending however as it was the most logical pick in our opinion. As a goalkeeper it's not only important to have good reflexes, controlling and monitoring your defense is just as important - and that's what the goalkeepers in Hattrick now use their defending skill for.

Reply to (10070922.5) After a long search, someone finally managed to prove that TC is reflected in attack ratings, though the difference after a large win was so small that the best case scenario was about 7%, IIRC, while the worst case was about 2%.
In any case, we know for certain what happens when TC hits rock bottom - the ratings are visibly unaffected, while chance conversion drops to near zero. There is every reason to believe that extremely high values of TC do the opposite: massively increase chance conversion, making it hard to plan defences and tactics in general. (...)
1) Do you plan on having TC finally visibly and tangibly affect attack ratings, instead of being a (seemingly) large hidden modifier that doesn't even seem to reflect in ratings? First of all, interesting report. I've in fact dug deep into the code (ok, I got some help) and team confidence (TC) is reflected in the ratings. It could be however be so that the formula used for ratings isn't good enough (and this thesis, or what you should call it, pretty much points in that direction), leaving the TC to be a somewhat hidden factor. Because yes, team confidence is pretty important for the attack in the GE - and it's not at all meant to be a hidden factor. At least not as far as I know. :)
What we will do now is perform a couple of tests on the rating formula to see how good (or bad) it really is - and always has been in that case. Then we'll see what the outcome is and how (if) we should make it any different.
2) Do you plan on revisiting the overconfidence effect to make it a bit less random, and with varying degrees of effect (currently it's a ~30% midfield drop, which can be especially devastating if playing away)? Also, do you plan on making OC less common in the first several league rounds, while the table is still forming and doesn't necessarily reflect the general standings and team strength? There are currently no such plans, no. The psychological part of the game isn't that huge today, and it's not on top of the developing plans right now (not so strange considering the amount of plans with YA, training, subs etc we got right now). But I can share some personal thoughts:
Personally I think overconfidence happens too rarely (and when it happens it never happens to my opponent :(). As you say there's really no difference in which round it happens either, so there are some things you could make somewhat smarter (and perhaps also less depending on random). The effect isn't minimal, but imho it shouldn't be either - so I'm not sure about varying degrees even if that also could be a possibility. But in the big picture there's still a lot one can do on the psychological area, this is just a part of it. I'm sure the days for changes on the psycholigal area will come too, it's just isn't today nor tomorrow.

Now for the question: The vertical filling system seems to be the worst of the available options, have you considered changing it anytime soon? I am aware of the fact, that I'm not allowed to ask for changes in the future, but since this thread was made in the past, and as a reaction to your suggestion, I feel that a follow up on the progress (if any) could be desired. I think that particular thread on global contained a lot of good opinions and ideas, which we certainly will consider. I can't (as you may understand) promise any changes (or when they'll happen), but I can say that it really catched my interest. This fall we've had work up to our necks with the conversion work, which demanded us to focus on only that. I hope that we anytime soon will have time to sit down and see if we can improve the filling system in any way, because there are some good examples of when the current system isn't the best even if does the trick in many leagues.

Reply to: (10070922.78) (and 77) Adding up on Peluza's question:
Have you any plans regarding election system?
Have you any plans regarding the Cup?
Have you any plans regarding placing new teams? [I didn't check, maybe you already acted on this]
And, most of all, why did you asked the community for input about those issues (cup, over an year ago [?]; election last January; placing, more recently) and then ignore our contribution?
Lets put it this way: There is a lot of things we want to improve in this game. What you mention is three things and there is for sure more to add to that list. But we can't do everything at once, we simply have to find out what we think is most important to improve for the game overall as we can work on just a certain number of things at the same time. Now, I'm not saying elections and the cup are unimportant or that your input has been ignored - we just have found other things more important.
Actually, I find it hard to complain about the overall improvement decisions we've made recently. I think everyone can agree on that the economy of the game was in desperate need of an overhaul, and so was the game engine to favor secondary skills (which partly also is important for the economy). The most important thing with all these changes is that they're the start of a move towards a long term goal where the economy (and game) not need to be altered (that much) with. We're not there yet, but you have to start somewhere.
We have certain things on top of our agenda right now, none of them being the cup or the election. But even so I feel we should be allowed to discuss these things in the community, why wouldn't we? I'm quite certain that you want to hear our opinion no matter when/if etc something can be done about it. And your opinions are very important for us, and it is possible that we change our agenda (except the very top things, as they're decided on and most likely are being) worked on). You do influence us, but it's not like you can order us exactly what to do. So I definitely think it's better to hear what you say about the things you find important, rather than just listen to what we already think is important.

So - will there ever be a possibility to play with them some match, or the last sentence from that editorial is misleading? If there is a possibility for future to play some exhibition game with HoF players - will it be among other achievements? 2. Or would it be wiser to pull an outfield player and get a Solid Defender with Solid Keeper skill? Outfielders don't have much (if any) keeper skill.

(10070922.396) About the individual training in YA. I'm discussing with other user about the following:
I think wingers will get trained in wing and half of playmaking. Wingbacks get trained in defense and half of winger. Other positions get trained only in main skill.
The other user thinks all players will get trained in all skills they need (including passing for example).
Who is right (or closer to be)? None is 100% correct, but it depends on how you look at it. In detail individual training randomly picks one of the skills valuable for the position the player played in. The more important/valuable the skill is - the higher chance that skill is picked. A primary skill is more likely picked than a secondary for example.
If you look on individual training for one whole season or at least a number of weeks, then you will (in theory) get the about result you're talking about in your question: The primary skill (ex goalkeeping for goalkeepers) is trained more than the secondary skill (defending), but both have been trained.
How do we decide how important/valuable different skills are for a certain position? Well, we do know what the match engine says...

Does your direct "No" here mean 1. Only that there are no current plans for implenting that. 2. You have considered the option and decided that you will definitely not make such a change. 3. You have already made plans for the bigger change, and thus the question is no longer relevant.

The number of available talents in a certain region is depending on the size of the region, ie the number of users/teams in the region. A big region got larger talent population. Therefore it might be wise not to put all your scouts in small regions, you should at least consider to move them if they often find nothing.
Moreover, the pool of talents is updated every day. It might therefore also be wise to call your scout later in the week as most users tend to call their scouts as fast as possible after the economic update.

Reply to (10070922.140) I play HT now for aprox. 2,5 years, but I have never noticed any poll in 'myhattrick'!? No doubt there wasn't any kind of poll in this time ;) But I'm little bit confused about it. Why didn't you use this kind of proper chance to get any statistical feedback of the user?
In the poll-link it says:
[...]Second, and more importantly, when you tell us what you think you are also helping us develop the game. Historically, Hattrick has evolved in close cooperation with the users - a tradition we are maintaining.
Isn't it not longer important for the HT's? I mean, the forum/conferences is full with any negative or critical comments about things like the youth-academy, improvements, design and so on. But is it reflecting the real point of view from the whole community? Can you appreciate the real reasons of frustration (for example) about the youth-academy? I don't think so and it should be clear that it isn't. It's still important for us to develop the game in close cooperation with the users, and it will always be that way. That's why we try to be around in the community and show our faces on the forum, not all of us - but some of us. Personally I devote a lot of time to just read forums and discussions about the game, just to get ideas for future development but also to understand how users play and enjoy the game. And sometimes we also take part of the discussions.
So, we do develop the game in cooperation with the users - we just don't use the poll option to ask each and everyone what you think about a change or a coming feature. And frankly, I think using this policy is good as it wouldn't be good to develop a game according to the results in different popularity contests. I'm not saying you shouldn't dismiss what you as users think about the game, that will always be important. But certain things would be particularly missed if users were 'to decide' on the development:
First of all users don't have all the necessary background information in order to make a viable decision and even if such info were at hand most users wouldn't devote the time needed into it. In short we fear that the results would look good, but could be bad for the game. More importantly though we would miss two crucial things when it comes to game developing: the long time vision and the continuance.
Now, it's not like we never use the poll option. We use it to decide on names of top leagues in different countries, we've also used it to decide on match times for a number of leagues during the years and we will carry on to use this tool for such things. We've also had some other polls during the years, like the global census for example and I'm quite sure there will be more of that kind in the future too.

Yes, we have no intention to make any adjustments to the new engine. At least not at this point.
The attack on the wings hasn't really been decreased, even though the effect of an offensive winger (and forwards to wing) has decreased. What we've done is to move some wing power to the wing back instead. A wing back playing normal will add quite much to the wing attacks, which wasn't the case in the old engine (hence why there are quite few really good wing backs too). Adding some winger to your wing back and let him play normal will add a lot to your wing attacks, and you will not lose much defense compared to letting him play defensive.

The start page should really be designed for new users not yet playing the game, for them the community links didn't make much sense.
But on the other hand they make much sense for those who already play, but then they should be placed within the game. Today there are no good spot for these links or other community news of this kind, but we haven't forgotten about it. We just need to find a good place for them - and of course make a prettier page than the one we currently got.

even though i did not get that with the youth squad games, but i guess we will heare more and more until it will actually be implemented In short, you'll be able to create your own series. Maybe some friends want a series of their own, or collegues or a federation etc. You play a match every week with your youth team in that series (and you'll also be able to choose the time of the match), except for some regular breaks for a friendly match. This to make it possible to meet other ppl/teams sometimes too.

Two questions:
1) Is the current investment going to be IN ANY WAY connected to the upcoming YS system? There are plenty of people who stopped investing some time ago because their TeamID wasn't lucky enough and they were losing money, but the future YS might be more fair.
2) I don't like the connection between 1st team results and the youth team. This will AGAIN make people avoid promotion - after all, if they get extra youth training points by winning, then there is absolutely no incentive to go higher. In fact, it might even be wiser to demote in a lot of cases.
First question is already answered and the second question is not a question, but an opinion.

what about the level of the YS? Is it staying the same as we managed to reach up to now or you will reset it, which means that all these money we invested for so long time was for nothing? Nothing? All these years I think you've promoted a lot of youth players in order to (maybe) win your investment back. In the new system the level of the YS is unimportant. The only time you might need it again is if you want to go back to the old youth system. We're not definately sure how to handle the level then, but in some way it will be frozen or at least partly frozen (and depending on the number of scouts perhaps?). We'll see.

2) [blah blah blah] Why the connection? I think it makes sense that the progress or your normal team also affects the youth squad. It makes sense that youth players are better motivated to work hard for that place in the senior squad if the senior squad performs well. It also means you can't just give up your senior squad and sell it out etc etc. But you got a point, allthough I think the above is more important than that it's definately something to consider too.

Are the youth teams playing in national or international leagues? Can I play in a league with friends from different countries? As I said, you can create your own series - meaning you can have a series with teams from different countries for example.
Can we see the complete skills of the youth players when they are in the youth team? Or only a rough view over some skills? I think the edtiorial says what can be said about that for now.
The youth players' skills will not be set in stone, they'll be floating. This means you'll have to explore your players and through match ratings see in which position they play the best. Skills will be more exact the more you train and explore your players, but exactly how good they are will first be known when you promote them to the senior squad. Except from the normal skills, youth players will also have values for potential and character.

1 Managers can choose (at least in the beginning) if they want to use the new system or the old one. Yes.
2 If you choose the new one, you are unable to sell your youths for some time Yes.
3 This will result in a lot less youth players in the market, giving the old system a financial benefit which may be countered as I understand with better chance of better players in new system. Is that a right assumption? Pretty much, yes. Most likely there will be less youth players in the game as you probably will not promote a youth player to your senior squad every week. On the other hand, the players you choose to promote will in general be better. And as said in the editorial, players from the new youth system will in general be better as they can get better secondaries.
4 How long will this old system continue? Indefinately I think.
6 How do you get 11 youth team players if you do not invest in new system (or even if you do)? Or can 17-19 year olds also play? If you don't use the new system you can still use the old one (or none). If you use the new system you will not be able to use the old one. Until you're able to fill your youth squad (in the new system) with 11 players, you will be able to pick up the "neighbours' kids" or something (ie dummies which will be equally bad).
7 You cannot see the skill of these 15-16 year olds. Until they are promoted. Do you just put them somewhere to see how many stars he gets? You'll see something, just don't the exact skills and not the way senior players are presentated. Putting them somewhere on the pitch and see how many stars he got is not going to be a bad idea however.

1. If a club choses to use the new YP-system, scouted players are around 15. They can be promoted at a minimum of 17years old. Does that mean in those 2 years/seasons, u only play the new system, and having each week 1 youthplayer promoted in your youthsquad? Just to be clear, I've never said how old a youth player in the new system must be in order to be promoted to the senior team. But yes, for some seasons in the beginning you will only play the new system and find youth players for your youth team.
2. Does that also mean, that u cant sell any YP for 2 at least years/seasons? (so you're only paying scouts and paying pulls and not having any YP-income) For some seasons you'll not be able to sell any youth players, yes.
4. Your A-squad will still be able to play on sundays and wednesdays right? Yes, of course.

2. the growth of the youngsters will depend only the type of training and talent, or there will be other factors as well(position in that week match)? The position in that week's game will matter, as always.
4. Will the result of the youth matches affect in any way the club finances(like income from tickets)? I'm not that sure fathers and mothers pay anything to watch their kids play. :)
7. Will the team spirit of the senior squad affect the midfield of the youth squad? No.
8. Will the youth players have a salary that is going to be paid? Not sure yet. But if they do, I guess we will cover that cost with income from selling soda and homebaked cakes. :)
10. If you have some scouts, and they present each of them one player/week from which you are able to accept only one player, what will you know about the presented players?(except name:D) They will provide you some basic info so you'll be able to make a decision.

Every season (excepted the first 1-2-3 seasons, of course, when you will have no youths) each team at the first week of the season will have some 17 years old (say 4-5-6-7, depending on how many 16 years old he has trained the last season). Then he will promote them (I suppose one for week, like now, is it correct?), and then there will be no new 17 years old players till the next season. So we will have on the market a lot of 17 years old players in the first 2-3 weeks of every season and quite zero in the second half of the season. Is it correct? Ok, here we go with the 17 year olds again. I repeat this again: It's not been said that you will (or will not) be able to promote 17 year olds. Apart from that, I think the market will take care of your concern itself. If all ppl will promote youths the first week, then the prices will fall and you'll get less paid. Moreover, you'll still be able to train the youth player in your youth squad after the first week. And finally, you'll not promote a youth player to the senior team every week.

Could you specify a bit more what you mean by calling the new YS system time consuming? Does it just take some more minutes per week (like checking for new players, setting line-up, etc.) or are we talking hours here? I think that will depend from what kind of user you are. I mean, some Hattrik users spend 30 minutes per week on Hattrick today and some spend several hours a day. I think it will be something similar here, it depends on how deep you want to dig.
Hattrick is a simplistic game overall, so this feature will be simplistic too. But it will not be the exactly "same" simplicitity, it will be slightly different. A game in the game one can say, a game which is not that different from the normal game - but not completely the same either.

2) You plan to "create a stronger bond with your youth players". How is the announced solution better than, say, having reduced wages, say to 90%, for players born at one's YS? Bonds are made out of feelings, not out of money. (You're talking about having a economic benefit for your own youth players, but that's something else imho)
3) "How youth players develop and how good they can be should be less predictable than today". That could be achieved more simply by slightly randomising training, as it is today. It already is so for SP, stamina, and general, it would not be a revolution. Why is the announced solution better? Having another form of "if a train this solid guy for one season he'll be formidable" wasn't really something we wanted, nor did we want to slightly increase the random factor in the "old" training. We wanted something that should be more unpredictable, but where your choices didn't meet a random factor.
4) "The game engine for youth matches [...] will be slightly different". Why? Why not? ;) Because it will be somewhat needed for the training system, and some other stuff.
5) "You'll only be able to pick up one youth player per week, so if you accept the first offer you'll not see any other offer and if you dismiss the first offer you'll not be able to accept it later." That's almost exactly the coach hiring method used some 10 seasons ago. Why was it bad for that, and changed, and is good for this? I don't think it's comparable really. Now you'll only get X (number of scout) chances every week = a limited number of chances where you have to think every time if it's something to keep or if you can get a better one.
The old coach hiring system could go on and on and on, and was completely random. Secondly, a good coach is quite important in Hattrick so the old system was far from perfect. But still, it had its moments too I think.
