The Dutch cup started in the beginning of 2001 with the creation of Nederland.
The semi finals and finals were played over two matches up to and including season 12. 512 teams entered for the 11 round cup in seasons 1, 2 and 3. Seasons 4 to 6 took 13 rounds with 2048 entrants. Season 7 was the first season with 15 cup rounds (8192 competitors). From season 13 on, 32768 teams are entered, because the semi finals and final are played over one leg on neutral ground.
Legendary team Stiphout Vooruit has won the cup three times during the first seasons of Hattrick in Nederland. More recently, manager Nilsinho from Hercules Calisante was the second team to win the cup three times.
