Introduction

When the Youth Academy was launched, the scout reports were very difficult to make any sence out of. This was later changed so that the reports became more clear. This article describes the "new" way of the Scout reports, but have some paragraphs referring to the old system.

What the Scout Reports

• The Youth Scout will always tell you the age of the player in years, but not the days.
• The Youth Scout will always tell you at least one skill and one max-skill.
• The Youth Scout will sometimes tell you something about the players overall.
• The Youth Scout will sometimes tell you something about the players speciality.

Age

• "-player- looks promising. He is -years- years old and seems to have something extra."
• "Right, this week's candidate is -years- years of age and is called -player-."
• "I think I have spotted a future star here, to be honest. He told me his name is -player- and is -years- years old."

Skill

• "This player has -level- -skill- at this point in his career."
• "Without any further training, this player will remain with -level- -skill-"
• "Right now I would say his -skill- capabilities are around the -level- level."

Cap

• "Coach this player right and he will reach his potential of -level- -skill- before you know it!"*
• "If he develops well, I would say this chap can emerge with -level- -skill- before joining the senior squad."
• "Given the chance to improve his -skill- skills, this guy might well reach -level- in that department."

Overall

• "I would say as an allrounder, he's -level-."
• "With his -level- overall skills, this might be the player for us."
• "His overall abilities right now are -level-, in my opinion."

Speciality

Head

• "He is a natural in the air, and he will be able to use this edge both offensively and in defence."
• "The boy is taller than most of his age, and he knows how to use the advantage. Count on him to do a decent header."
• "This player has got stature on the pitch - he will develop into a nice head specialist."

Powerful

• "This player is powerful for his age. With that large physique I'm sure he can get an advantage over his opponents when the going gets tough."
• "Still just a boy but with a powerful frame. We should ask his mother what she has been feeding him..."
• "He has the physique of a grown man - it gives him a certain edge to be this powerful."
• "I wouldn't want to be caught between this guy and a stray ball. This boy could bring down anyone."

Unpredictable

• "Remember when you see this player that he has an unpredictable streak a mile wide. He's part madman, part genius."
• "When you consider this player, don't forget he has a wild streak - he is unpredictable, one part madman, one part genius."
• "The player is unpredictable, and I am not sure we can do much about that - it's just his way."
• "Well, what can I say? He keeps you guessing - it's an unpredictable player, if you know how to use him he might be of interest to you. "

Technical

• "It is hard to evaluate this player without mentioning his technical skills, he seems to have a natural love for the ball. "
• "You can often see this guy doing beautiful moves in training - it is one of his defining traits."
• "This player is technical, you can see that from far away. Consider that when you build the team."

Quick

• "This player is certainly quick, which is never a bad thing for a footballer in this day and age. "
• "This is a little speedball - always on the move, and faster than most. I hope he can learn to use that ability on the field..."
• "This kind of player is useful, he is very quick, now all he needs to learn is to play football as well."

Youth Academy Player Ratings

Current Ability

• Excellent
• Solid
• Passable
• Inadequate
• Weak
• Poor
• Wretched
• Disastrous

Proposed Youth Star System Translation

Ability for a player in a certain position.

1 star = Disastrous

2 star = Wretched

3 star = Poor

4 star = Weak

5 star = Inadequate

6 star = Passable

7 Star = Solid

8 Star = Excellent (except for goalkeepers who have a maximum capacity of solid ability as a youth)

Comments on Star Ratings

As multiple skilled areas make up a players star rating for most positions, it is only a guide to their actual primary level. E.g. a striker with very high Passing, might appear as a 7 or 8 star but indeed only have inadequate or passable scoring.

Upon youth promotion day it has been suggested some players will have a bad call up (lose skill) Making the final testing of this logical progression only possible from the averages of a massive set of data.

More than 8 stars is achievable by high multiple skill sets, by having above passable form and weather bonus effects.
