Assistant Coach is a specialist that supports your coach to increase the team's training efficiency as a good strategy for any team focused on training.

Characteristics

A club can hire up to two Assistant Coaches. You have to chosen also the level from one to five of skill for each of them. Anyway make sure you have a competent head trainer, because a good regular one is the sharing point before considering spending much money on assistant coaches. But when you do have a competent head coach, hiring a number of skilled Assistant Coaches could be a good strategy for any team focused on training.

If you have both spots filled with Assistant Coaches, their combined skill levels will create one single bonus.

This means a level 4 Assistant Coach contributes exactly the same as two level 2 Assistant Coaches would.

To make things easier, you will always see the actual bonus given by your current backroom staff or any staff you plan to hire written out on the Staff page.

This bonus is added as a multiplier on top of the existing training efficiency as decided by the coaching skill of your head coach, your chosen training intensity, and your chosen stamina share.

As an example, if you had a solid coach, 100 % training intensity, and 10% stamina share, the following training speeds for a 22-year-old formidable playmaker would be achieved:

- No Assistant coach: ~7 weeks until next playmaking level,
- 1 Level 5 skill Assistant coach: ~6 weeks until next level,
- 2 Level 5 skill Assistant (level 10 total): ~5 weeks until next level.

Side effects

Alongside the effects on training, Assistant Coaches also have two side effects. Form is increased, but so is injury risk.

  • Injury risk is calculated as the average number of injuries per game, not per player but per team. The base value is 0.4 injuries per match for your team. This can be reduced with a level 5 Medic to 0.025.
Assistant Coaches contribute to a higher injury risk by 0.025 injuries per match per skill level hired. This means a level 5 Assistant Coach increases your base injury risk to 0.525 injuries per match (0.15 with a level 5 Medic), and two level 5 Assistant Coaches gives you a base injury risk of 0.65 injuries per match (0.275 with a Level 5 Medic).
  • As already mentioned, on the positive side Assistant Coaches do increase the background form of your players. If you have a total 10 skill levels of Assistant Coaches, background form will increase by 0.5 levels. In other words, two level 5 Assistant Coaches contribute half as much to form as a level 5 Form Coach would.

Comparison with old system

Before season 55 Staff Reform coach could have up to 10 assistants. In the old system, they could add between 18 % (for a single coach) and 30 % (for 10 coaches) to the training speed that you already got from your head coach. In the new system, even without any Assistant Coaches, you will still had a basic training bonus of 9 %. An extra 2.5 % is then added per extra skill level hired.

To reach the same training speed as with 10 assistant coaches in the old system, about 8 skill levels are needed in total. With 10 skill levels, you can reach 34 % faster training than with no extra help in the old system.

Assistants already had also the two side effects: the background form of your players was increased (today we use the Form Coach for this), but also the injury risk was increased.

Immediately after the season 55 reform, the maximum number of Assistant Coaches allowed was three and if you had a full 15 skill levels, background form would be increased by 0.5 levels. In other words, three level 5 Assistant Coaches contributed half as much to form as a level 5 Form Coach would.

Old staff Assistant Coach

The New staff Assistant Coach was introduced in season 55 and was based on old specialist, explained this way:

The Assistant Coach is engaged in order to help outfield players in their training and to maintain their high form.

A club may only have 10 of any one type of staff. The effect of each additional assistant decreased fast. E.g. having 5 assistant coaches instead of 10 would slow training all the way from solid to divine by 1 week only!

Over 10 assistant coaches + goalkeeper coaches used to cause loss of training for the week.

Old staff Goalkeeping Coach

As part of season 42-43's changes, goalkeeping coaches were merged with assistant coaches and do not exist anymore. From season 43 on, goalkeepers were also trained by assistant coaches.

Before season 43, there were seperate goalkeeping coaches. However assistant coaches and goalkeeping coaches were treated as one type, so a team may only have a combined total of 10 coaches. Many users claim to have lost training when trying to hire more than 11 specialists of this kind (while with 11 there seemed to be a little change to have negative effects).

At the time. research suggested that, starting from a 17-year old solid keeper, training with five goalkeeping coaches required only one additional week to reach divine skill compared with training with ten goalkeeping coaches. Typically non-goalkeeping training teams employed 9 assistant coaches and 1 goalkeeping coach. Some goalkeeper trainers preferred to keep relatively fewer goalkeeper coaches (as few as five) and relatively more assistant coaches, arguing that the loss in training speed is minimal and the gain in form is worth it. The effects of this choice were not studied.
