V.V. Beek is a Dutch team based in the Limburg region, managed by mk1992. The current iteration of V.V. Beek plays in the serie IV.29. Homematches are played in the Sonsbeeck Arena (after former mayor Van Sonsbeeck of Beek) in Limburg. The club was founded at the 6th of August 2013 and is currently coached by Varban Yordanov.

V.V. Beek (2005 - 2011)

Originally founded in July of 2005, V.V. Beek enjoyed success in the lower leagues. The club was promoted four times, of which two back to back promotions and was never relegated during its active tenure. Minor cup successes were celebrated in seasons 30 and 33, in which round 4 of the national cup was reached.

The club was known for its close group of players, which due to their limited skill set endured long careers with the club. Amongst those heroes were striker duo Wilbert Planting and Giorgio Grinwis who, despite their finishing skill only being solid, played 317 official and friendly matches together and scored a total of 118 league goals between them. The third an perhaps biggest hero of the club was John Wammes, celebrated not only for his "massive" TSI of over 2000, his presence in the first ever squad of "Den VV", the succesfull tenure as a player-coach and his 184 total matches played for the club. Hildebrand Wolvekamp should also not be forgotten. Not only was he the most expensive transfer at the time, according to records it was him who first achieved excellent skill levels. Wolvekamp still ranks 6th in the matches played leaderboard.

After a long stay in VIII.86 (8 seasons), back to back promotions followed in seasons 25 and 26. These landed the club a spot in VI.912, where the club reached three 3rd places in seven seasons. At the end of season 33 however, chairman mk1992 abandoned the club citing lack of progression, increasing costs of ownership and diminishing chances on the transfermarket. Thus "Den VV" slipped into obscurity after 18 seasons.

V.V. Beek (2013 onwards)

A shock announcement on the sixth of August 2013, the club of old would be dusted of, Den VV should rise again. Through some clever financial and content management mk1992 saw chances to reestablish the club and set sail for higher divisions in an ever smaller Hattrick-world.

The formation enjoyed early success by claiming direct promotion from the dreaded VIII division within its first weeks. In its second season in VII, another promotion was achieved, returning the team to the VI division it had topped out in previously. However that success was shortlived as the team relegated for the first time in history, narrowly missing out on a playoff-position.

Season 45 saw the team return to the VII division for a second time, and again the team missed out on the title, but got promoted nonetheless. Clearly a stronger squad than before, their second attempt at the VI division saw them immediately finish best of the rest with a strong third position. Season 48 saw the team claim the title in division VI, although their narrow triumph wasn't enough to claim direct promotion. The following play-off match was lost convincingly, the team wasn't ready yet. To enter division V for the first time in history the team had to try again.

Season 49 was their second title challenge in Division 6. Despite gathering the same amount of points the title was claimed once more. Their play-off match against F.C. Snelle Jelle was a thriller. V.V. Beek lead the scores twice, but their opponents drew level twice, meaning 2-2 on the score board after 90 minutes. In extra time it was Tadeusz Michniewski who secured himself a place in the team's history books. His goal in the 94th minute proved a winner. Division V was achieved.

2016-2018: Division V and eventual relegation

Their debut in Division V was definitely more successful than their first try at div VI. A close midfield pack saw 3rd and 6th seperated by only 5 points, with V.V. Beek nearly coming out on top. 23 points saw them level with 3rd, yet goal differences meant they ended their maiden season in 4th place, safe from any playoff shenanigans. Alongside this campaign the team reached the 5th round of the National Cup for the first time.

The following seasons saw the team close to the title fight but never close enough to proceed to a higher division. Yet a string of top 4-finishes proved no guarantee as season 58 saw a shock 6th place finish being topped with a silly loss in the play-off. After nine seasons in divison V, V.V. Beek were back in division VI somehow.

2019: Higher and Higher

Although season 58 was a dark page in the club's history, the return to division VI proved to be just what V.V. Beek needed. Away from the glitz and glamour of division V, a largely unchanged team gelled together and played rejuvinated. Even supporters who deemed the relegation as mostly unfair had to revise their opinions throughout season 59. With a max score of 42 points and only 5 goals against this season away from the spotlights wasn't so bad after all.

Even better was the fact that it didn't seem to end there. Season 60 in Division 5 saw the team win and win and win, grabbing direct promotion to division IV with 37 points. Their debut in Division IV was a successful one, the team managed to avoid a relegation play-off due to a solid fourth place finish. Though it had to be noted that the team in the weakest division on the level in which two teams became inactive during the season.

The fairytale time in division IV was cut short in the next season, just 11 points saw the club relegated directly (with a margin).

2020-2021: Stuck in Division V

Their return in Division V wasn't successful either. Only 4th and never in the running for promotion, the team needed another reshuffle. A new coach (Biancuzzi) and a philosophy focused on skills and low wages should propel Den VV back up the league ladder.

The return to division IV proved tricky. After three seasons on the 5th level the club never got within 7 points of winning the league. A tactical overhaul was needed after another lackluster campaign.

A radical reshuffle was undertaken. A crowd-pleasing approach was changed in favour of results driven and more defensive football. 8 players left as a result and the team switched to a 5-4-1 formation in their new title challenge. This approach proved succesfull, with Den VV clinching the title in an unbeaten season, though missing out on direct promotion by a single goal. In the promotion play-off the team again came up a goal short, losing 1-0.

The following season (68) was one of revenge. Losing only one match in the league the team steamed towards direct promotion. But their cup run was the talk of the town. Reaching round 5 saw them equal their best result in six seasons. They equalled their all-time best by reaching round 6, and even managed to win that match. They beat a team from the 3rd tier to reach round 8 (round of 128) a week later where they faced opposition from tier 2 with a record crowd attending.

2022: New dawn in Division IV?

Returning to Division IV after 6 season provided a morale boost to the team. Not being stuck in Division V forever meant things were looking big for the team. Yet a poor season finish saw the team facing a relegation play-off in season 70. Again finishing 5th on goal difference. A true nailbiter saw the team only 15 minutes away from relegation. Scoring three goals in three minutes saw their fortunes change for the better and their stay in Div IV was prolonged by another year.

After this narrow escape hopes were high for the new season. More specialised and more skilful players were brought in and the team faced the challenge with new hope. This hope proved anything but substantial, as a horrible season lay ahead of the team. Points were dropped all over, goals seldomly scored and matches generally did not go their way. Relegation and a small exodus followed, as the Den V.V.'s coffers were empty. Next year, one league lower, a new challenge would have to be mounted.

Current exploits in Div. V (2023)

Their return to division V was not what they hoped for. Immediate return to the fourth division was their goal, but five losses in the fourteen match season meant they could consider themselves lucky with a third place. At the cup performance gave fans something to be proud about. Round 6 in both season 73 and 74 saw the team proceed beyond round 5 for the 3rd and 4th time. Season 74 showed some promise, but five sometimes unlucky draws meant the team was not part of the title fight.

A determined team achieved success in season 75 though. Losing in round two of the season unleashed a 12 game unbeaten run. Key player in this streak was Jani Karanta, who scored 17 goals to become top scorer for the second time in three seasons. A points haul of 37 saw the team take the title by 8 points. Division IV loomed.

2024: Return to Div. IV - 'Operation Homegrown'

Returning to Division 4 happened under a variety of circumstances. The team was mostly out of money and both regular players and trainees were ageing. Revenue on wing trainees was also not was was hoped for. This, combined with being drawn into one of the weakest IV leagues at the time, meant that the team pulled the trigger. A rejig of the team and a switch to playmaking training would follow. Key to this approach was a larger focus on Dutch players and even more focus on specialities compared to previous seasons. The B-team was hollowed out a bit more, with most non-essential positions taking up by cheap young players to fill in the gaps.

A gamble it was and a bad one it proved to be. Season 77 was a frustrating one with lots of draws and hardly any wins. A few strange results thrown into the mix and the team was relegated with only 13 points to their name. On a unnanounced retreat to the far North the manager divised a new plan. With the team in turmoil and 8 out of 11 A-team players leaving the home front received a cryptic sign of life from their manager: 'M.M. B.B.'. It was only upon his return that the meaning of this code became clear: Make Money, Become Better. Those in and around the Sonsbeeck Arena were both delighted and slightly baffled. Could the solution be this simple?

'Make Money, Become Better'

A step back to the 5th level and poor financial circumstances were the combined input for this new mantra. The rat race of ever more expensive transfers and wages could not be sustained, even though Operation Homegrown saw many more expensive foreign player leave already. The team stepped this trend up a notch. Not only would foreign players be an exemption, the overall skill of the team was turned down a notch. Sustaining in Div 5 for a few years and gathering capital through trading trainees were key. Only when a sufficiently filled piggy bank was achieved plans for a return to Division 4 could be set in motion.

The first season of this new vision was a tough one. On the positive side, a new league saw the team face off against old rivals FC Vushke and DS '79. Yet they were not the only tough opponents in V.97, which ranked 5th out of 256 leagues. One point out of the first six matches was nothing to write home about. And although the team was more competitive in the second half, eight points were never enough to stay up. This rebuild had to take shape in the sixth division. For the first time since all the way back in 2005, the team played at the lowest level.

That return to Div VI was met with high expectations. The team had the capability to instantly bounce back and claim promotion. Yet, the football gods had other ideas. One unlucky draw and a loss versus their title rival saw V.V. Beek finish second with 37 points. More effort was put into reducing the wage bill and attracting Dutch players. This saw the team become predominantly Dutch for the first time in ages with 12 out of 20 players being from the Netherlands.

Season 45

  • A solid season in VII.851 not only sees the team reach cupround 3 again, it also sets off a run of league finishes. The team managed to finish not lower than 4th for the coming 13 seasons

Season 48&49

  • Grabbing the title in VI for the first time in season 48 was not enough, as the team was defeated in their playoff match. In a different league the following year promotion towards Div. V was reached for the first time, allbeit through playoffs.

Season 50

  • A nine year tenure on the fifth level of professional football starts with a record round 5 in the national cup and a solid fourth place in the league.

Season 55

  • Finishing 2nd in V.31 with 31 points and a goal difference of +24, the team puts on a strong title find until the last round. Moreover, a new all-time highest finish is reached

Season 58

  • Despite reaching round 6 of the national cup, the team finishes 6th in a close league
  • Even worse, the relegation play-off is lost, relegating the team back down to the VI division

Season 59 For the first time ever, the team makes it to the last 128 of a national cup. The Ruby Cup in this case.

Season 60

  • Fortunes turn: after two back to back titles in VI and V the team finds itself in Div. IV for the first time in history

Season 62 A season in which all seemed to fall just the wrong way, relegation awaits and cues a reshuffle of the team. 5 main players leave, the team gets a new coach and is financially restructured.

Season 63 The return to division V is lackluster. At no point does the team find itself in a title fight, and new coach Giulio Biancuzzi is unable to turn things around. More reshuffling in the team sees the introduction of the 15-15-30 philosophy, aimed at bringing bigger future stars to the club under solid financial management. This sees the team aim at staying in division V for a few seasons, as a new generation is being trained for future success.

Season 66 The only highlight of the year was reaching the round of 32 in the national Sapphire Cup, but in the league tactical difficulties combined with an injury plague meant the time was ruled out of a title fight early on.

Season 67 Despite a perfect season in which the team took the tile, they wound up a single goal short of direct promotion to the IV division. The subsequent playoff was also lost.

Season 68 A tremendous cup run saw the team reach the eigth round of the KNVB Beker (round of 128) for the first time in the team's history. They beat a team from the 3rd tier to reach round 8 (round of 128) a week later where they faced opposition from tier 2 with a record crowd attending.
