| It is the largest metropolitan area in Israel, with a population of approximately 1.75 million. It is divided into an inner and an outer layer.

| The inner layer includes Tel Aviv, Bat Yam, [[Holon]], [[Ramat Gan]], Givatayim, Bene Beraq, [[Herzliya]], Or Yehuda and Kiryat Ono, as well as a multitude of towns (local municipalities).

| The outer layer includes Petah Tikva, Hod Hasharon, Kfar Saba, Raanana, Yehud, Ramla, Lod, Rishon Lezion, Nes Ziyyona and Rehovot, as well as a multitude of towns (local municipalities).

| Gush Dan also has its own bus transportation company, the Dan Bus Cooperative, which is the equivalent of Egged, Israel's biggest bus company, and the 2nd biggest in the world.

| The name Gush Dan means "Dan Block", and is so named because the area was the territory of the tribe of Dan in the ancient Kingdom of Israel.
