IFK Sälhyltan was founded in Season 48, beginning its journey in Division VI. The club made an immediate impression by finishing third in its debut campaign before winning the league in Season 49, earning promotion to Division V. Life at the higher level proved difficult, and the team was relegated after Season 50. However, they responded immediately by winning Division VI again in Season 51, securing a swift return to Division V.
Over the following years, IFK Sälhyltan steadily developed into a stronger side. After several competitive seasons in Division V, the club finally achieved promotion to Division IV in Season 61. Their momentum continued as they won Division IV in Season 62, earning promotion to Division III for the first time. The step up was demanding, and the team was relegated back to Division IV after Season 63.
The club quickly rebuilt and entered one of the strongest periods in its history. By winning Division IV in Season 70, IFK Sälhyltan returned to Division III and established themselves as one of the division's strongest teams, regularly challenging near the top of the table. Their finest achievement came in Season 74, when they won the Division III title. Although they narrowly missed promotion after losing the qualification play-off for Division II, the campaign remains one of the club's greatest accomplishments. They continued to compete at a high level before being relegated from Division III in Season 76.
The following seasons brought another period of fluctuation. After successive setbacks, IFK Sälhyltan dropped to Division V following relegation in Season 78. The club spent many seasons at that level, typically recording solid mid-table finishes while working to rebuild. Their patience was rewarded in Season 88, when they won the league, although promotion slipped away after defeat in the qualification play-off. Two seasons later, in Season 90, they captured another Division V title and secured promotion back to Division IV.
In the years that followed, IFK Sälhyltan established itself as a competitive Division IV side. The club finished fourth in Season 91 before improving to third place in Season 92, a campaign that also produced the club's best cup run in recent memory, reaching the fifth round. Continued progress culminated in Season 94, when IFK Sälhyltan won the Division IV championship and earned promotion to Division III ahead of Season 95, marking the club's return to the third tier after a long absence.
Throughout its history, IFK Sälhyltan has been defined by resilience, determination, and an ability to recover from setbacks. Multiple promotions, memorable title-winning campaigns, and several competitive seasons in Division III have shaped the club's identity. With a new challenge awaiting in Division III in Season 95, IFK Sälhyltan looks to build on its proud tradition and write the next successful chapter in the club's history.
