U-20 is the abbreviation for Under-20, the youth-equivalent of the National Team. Each country selects their best youth players up to 20 years of age (so actually it should be called U-21) and send them off to play international matches against foreign U-20 teams.

The U-20 World Cup is held every two seasons, with one season being qualification matches, and the other season being group play, semi-finals, and the final match. The format is the same as for the senior World Cup, with the schedule offset one season from the senior edition.
