World Cup

From Hattrick

The World Cup is an international tournament for National Teams. A new World Cup campaign is started nearly as soon as the old campaign is completed, which takes two seasons. The tournament is being held since Hattrick season 15.

The final rounds of a World Cup campaign are hosted by one nation, determined by the HT team. The first World Cup ever was hosted by Nippon and Hanguk back in 2002, the year these countries also hosted the real-life FIFA world cup. The same happened again in 2006 (Germany), in 2010 (South Africa) and for the last time in 2014 (Brazil).

Format

The World Cup begins every second season and starts with a qualification round. Seeding for World Cup Round I is based on ranking, which is determined by previous World Cup results. The qualification round starts with national teams from all countries that are part of Hattrick, first two pass to next stage. There are three round-robin group stages, with 4 teams to a group and the top two teams qualifying for the next stage. The final two rounds are playoff matches, beginning with the semi-finals and culminating in the World Cup Final.
When no World Cup matches are scheduled, the national teams can play friendlies.

The World Cup format is:

  • Qualifications: 128 national teams in 16 round-robin groups of 8 teams each and 32 teams advance from this round to the World Cup;
  • Stage 2 (hosting nation ground): 32 teams in 8 groups of 4 teams each, first two pass to next stage;
  • Stage 3 (hosting nation ground): 16 teams in 4 groups of 4 teams, first two pass to next stage;
  • Stage 4 (hosting nation ground): 8 teams in 2 groups, first two pass to next stage;
  • Semi-finals and Final, played on last sunday of season at 20:00 HT.
