Dynamo Sparta Football Club (often simply known as Sparta or Dynamo, or by their nickname The Spartan Army) are an Oceanian professional Hattrick football club based in Melbourne, Victoria. They play in the VI.897 League and have won the league's championship once. They hold the best players in the league and have won multiple golden balls and golden boots since their arrival.

Sparta were founded in 2008. They won their first major trophies in their first season, in the Oceanian season 23. After a downfall period in the seasons later, the club looks to strive forward with their team of players and staff. They are regular participants in the OWAAT Cup, they have only ever made it 2 rounds into the Oceanian Cup, and have never reached a Hattrick Masters Cup, or have any players representing a national squad.

The club's colours have traditionally been blue and gold, which were randomlly picked colours, and also features red and white. The home strip is ble and gold stripes with a red trim, while the away strip is mainly white with blue stripes and a gold trim. The club have only ever had one logo, and have stayed in the one location: Melbourne. Souvlaki Stadium has always been their fortress, but has gone through name changes through the times, originally being known as Crapena Arena. After it's last construction, it holds 30,000 seats.

Sparta have a loyal and energetic fanbase, holding over 1700 members. Sparta are a rich club, valued at over $AUD 12,000,000 thanks to their major sponsors, SONY and, the multimedia company owned by manager and chairman, Jordan Kounelis, JICK3. Their youth squad and youth academy - The Super Duds Youth Academy and The Super Duds Youth Squad - produce some great young players and the promising players always get a run in the senior team. The youth's stadium, Souvlaki Park, holds 300 people.

History

Founding

Dynamo Sparta was founded on the 14th of January, 2008, as Super Dud XI. They started off in a Division V series, but got relegated down into VI.897. During this time, at the end of their first season, the team's name was changed to TAS/VIC Greek Heroes. It only lasted 2 months with the original name - Super Dud XI. The team had been playing under the TAS/VIC Greek Heroes name for up to a year.

The TAS/VIC Greek Heroes - more commonly known as their acronym, TVGH - have been trying to get their way out of their division VI series, having close encounters each season, finshing between 2nd and 4th - just outside the promotion position. In recent times, the team have been buying new players, and selling old ones. They have more of an international team now, with players coming from all over the world, from countries such as: Finland, Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Poland, Holland and Geramny.

Rejuvination

After many season trying to win the VI.897 title, and get their way back up to a division V series, the team went under a reconstruction period. At the end of the global season 38, they officialy changed their name to Dynamo Sparta FC. This means that the global season 38, was be their last season as TVGH, and the last season the team will undergo a name change. They are hoping that with the signing of their new recruits, the team will climb their way up the Oceanian rankings, and look to a bright and successful future ahead of them.

The Transfer Era

The Transfer Era was a big part in the clubs history and status, it only lasted for a week, yet it had a big influence on the clubs reputation. A sister club (owned by a personal friend of Jordan1's) made it clear that they are interested in any players Sparta didn't need, and since they list was a very big one - holding up to 37 players - and was usually a very big burdon for the manager, Jordan1 saw this as a great opportunity to rid the club of it's unwanted players. 9 players sold for $AUD 4,000 each (Jordan1 was being generous towards the sister club), and Dynamo were finally left with a comfortable 26 players (25 excluding the coach).

A New Beginning

"A New Beginning" is the slogan that DSFC will be using after their season 28. The club beleives that now is the time for everyone to rise up. They beleive that now, with a refreshed squad, new coach, and a more structured board, Dynamo Sparta only have one direction to head in. Up. The injection of leadership will bolster the spine of the team. The club hopes that the players will improve in their skills and work ethic on and off the feild. "Now is the time for Sparta to rise up" were the words from Chairman, Owner and Manager - Jordan1.

Season 29

Season 29 was a very successful year for the club. The stadium, Souvlaki Stadium, went under a 10,000 seat addition, which has been very successful. The club has around $12m to splash on buying new players, coaches and upgrades. The team got off to a slow start, but eventually went on an amazing winning streak, only to be cut short by the top team on the table, IC FC. The team finished 2nd on the table, 7 points behind first. A lot of people around the club were pleased, and are now aiming for season 30 to bring them promotion.

Mikko Jokitalo had an outstanding season, hitting the first 5-star performance for any player at the club. Fili Rutland was the most consistent striker for the year. Herb Fitzpatrick scored his 50th career goal, and 3 member were inducted into the Hal of Fame; these were former coach Leon Christensen, great leader Timmy Brooker, and legendary wingback Dave Arnull. Brock Bradley is the next in line for Hall of Fame induction.

Colours and Crest

The teams colours were chosen at random, blue and gold. Although the blue may symbolise Europe, the continent where Sparta is located - in Greece. The teams name was chosen to use Sparta in it, as that is where the managers - Jordan1 - origins come from.

The team's logo has been templated from Sparta Prague's logo, even though Sparta Prague is a team from Prague, Czech Republic - not Sparta, Greece. The logo consists of a circle, which has the words "Dynamo Sparta Football" around the outside, and the word "CLUB" underneath it. All text is red with a blue stroke. Inside the circle, there are blue and gold stripes, with the two letters "DS" in it. "DS" is obviously for Dynamo Sparta. The logo also has a skirt underneath the word "CLUB", which has been broken up into three parts, which consists of the clubs colours: Blue (on the left and right section), and Gold (in the middle section).

Souvlaki Park

Souvlaki Stadium (formerly known as Crapena Arena and TVGH Stadium) is the home to Dynamo Sparta. It holds a capacity of 30,000, and has one of the best turfs in the Victorian region. The stadium used to have an all around set-up, but was later built to have bigger stands to hold more fans in the one area, so the north and south stands were taken down, and the east and west stands were expanded. Another reconstruction took place to expand the stadium to 27,000, and then again to 30,000. The stadiums stands, seats and roofs have been coloured in the teams colours. The layout of the stadium is all around (bar the corners). In the corners are the stadium's four famous light towers.

At the bottom tier of the northern stand is where the fan club "The Gladiators" position themselves for matches. That whole stand is named the "Gunn Stand", after former keeper Florian Gunn. The eastern wing is named the "Ocampo Wing" after Sebastian Ocampo, the clubs former winger. The southern stand is known as the "Giannopoulos End", after the current, and legendary striker, Franklin Giannopoulos. And finally, the west wing is named after maybe the best and most talented player to set foot on the turf of the SS - Mikko Jokitalo, the "Jokitalo Wing".

Outside the stadium, directly next to it, is Souvlaki Park, which holds 300 seats. Each stand hold 50 people. The "SP" is the home ground for the Super Duds Youth Squad and Academy. Behind both the Souvlaki Stadium, and the Souvlaki Park is Pita Paddock, the training ground to both Dynamo Sparta and Super Duds Youth Squad. Adjacent to Pita Paddock, you will find the T&A Indoor facilities, which includes the gymnasium, swimming pools, saunas and ice baths.. T&A stands for Tzatziki kai Arni, which is greek for Tzatziki and Lamb. This name was chosen for the indoor facilities because inside a souvlaki is lamb and tzatziki. The name for all the facilities will not change during the name change of the club.

Sparta's major sponsors are SONY and JICK3. Their kit sponsor and supplier is Nike, and other minor sponsors include CREATIVE, Vodafone, and the Herald Sun. JICK3 is the company created and owned by Jordan Kounelis. JICK3 provide the club with sponsorship money, and having Jordan1 managing, owning and running the club, Dynamo Sparta and JICK3 have a very tight, unbreakable relationship.

Fan Support

Coming from the city of Melbourne, sports capital of the world, there is no doubting the passion and energy the fan club has. They call themselves "The Gladiators", which has derived from them being part of the "Spartan Army". The Gladiators are the most one-eyed, hardcore fans in any series. During matches, "The Gladiators" will usually bring loud instruments such as drums, horns, trumpets, and tambourines - along with other instruments. The Gladiators always have high hopes for the club, and it won't matter where the team are placed on the table, they will always have hope the team can pull off a victory.

Having made the bottom tier of the Ocampo Wing their own, you will always find the 1800 odd members creating a ruckas on game day. The leader of the Gladiators - the ever friendly Michalis Christopoulos - is always seen with his Hoplite helmet on, and signature trumpet being blown into, leading the Gladiators in battle. Just before the kick-off to a home match, he (Michalis) will blow his trumpet and lead the fan club and home fans into a battle cry to pump up the crowd, rev up the team, and create a roaring atmosphere.

Rivalry

The VS Vlissingen team share perhaps the strongest rivalry between the two clubs. Both managers are fiends, so there is a friendliness between them. The Melbourne Hurricanes and Sparta also share a fierce ravalry for the same reason. Being in VI.897 for so long, the Dynamo Sparta Vs The Scholars matches have been dubbed a "Low-Level Victorian derby".

Dynamo Sparta is a great club, but it would be nothing without it's youth academy. Knowing that in the future, we will have lots of great quality players, that originated from our Youth Academy is very reassuring to know. The Super Duds Youth Squad and Academy are building up fine players for Dynamo Sparta in the future. At the moment, only 3 players have been promoted into the senior squad, but none have made a name for themselves. Yan Felming is the only one that has had a successful run with the senior squad, but Jim Thurstons and Neville Dingo couldn't compete at the elite level in the seniors. The Super Duds Youth Squad and Academy compete in the Australian Jr League.

A lot of players have come and gone at Dynamo Sparta. Some have been great players, such as Brian Hall, Manuel Moro, Killian Currie and Ewan Royle , and some haven't played as many games, such as Adam Hetherington, Dewayne Noffke, Pomare Williams and Wally Beardsall. There have been 38 players who have left Dynamo Sparta, including those of the youth team.

Hall of Fame

The Dynamo Sparta FC Hall of Fame was opened on the 9th of February 2010, when long-time centre back Timmy Brooker was retired into the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is exclusive to the legends of the club where former players and coaches get inducted into.

Jordan1 learned about Hattrick through a few friends who work at a Melbourne-based radio station. Jordan received his team on the 14th of January, 2008, and named his first ever squad "Super Dud XI", but after two months, changed the team name to "TAS/VIC Greek Heroes". The youth squad remained as Super Duds Youth Academy, and will remain that way through the next (and last) name name change to "Dynamo Sparta FC". He, along with his team of coaches and trainers, have devloped, bought, and played a wide variety of players from various countries, and training them into the players needed for the team's style of play. Jordan has received his managers licence, and now aims to win the VI.897 league title again, after winning it first in season 23 (34).

Dimitar Zlatanov

Dimitar was recruited on 06-05-2010. Dimitar is the youngest coach the team has had, at 41 years of age (at time of recruitment) and is the strongest by far. He is a solid trainer, with passable leadership and solid experience. He is neither attack or defence-minded. He was brought in to help the club go through better development and help build the players abilities. The club wasn't right with Niel Rogers as coach, so this is why Dimitar was brought in. Neil ROgers has been demoted to assistant coach. Dimitar Zlatanov was born in Bulgaria.

Neil Rogers

Neil was recruited on 06-07-2009, at the expense of previous coach, Leon Christensen. Leon was much loved at the club, but after his training skills fell from inadeqate to weak, the clb thought that they needed a new coach, and Rogers was the one. Born in England, Rogers is the new trainer on the block. He is neither defence or attack-minded, at the fans are starting to get to know him already. On 06-05-2010, Neil Rogers was sacked as coach and was replacedby Dimitar Zlatanov.

Leon Christensen

Leon has been at the club since the 17th of January, 2008 - 3 days after the team was put together. He has done well training the squad, and now has stepped down to let Neil Rogers come in. He was neither attack or defence-minded, and likes to look at the whole team all around the park. Christensen has been kept on the list as an assistant coach, and just in case Neil Rogers fails to perform, Christensen will be re-elevated back up to the coaching position.

Sparta have a very big board of technical staff for the players, with experience coming from all over the world, helping the manager and coaches improve the playing squad. Past players from the club such as Florian Gunn, Sebastian Ocampo, Omiros Charitopoulos, and Sam Ackroyd have joined the board, and they know how the club functions from being here seasons ago.

Franklin Giannopoulos holds the record for Sparta appearances, having played 147 first-team matches from 2008 onwards. His 150th cap will be a great occasion. Centre-half Arthur Poore comes second, having played 143 times. The record for a goalkeeper is held by Boris Arce, with 133 appearances.

Herb Fitzpatrick is the club's top goalscorer with 50 goals in all competitions from 2008 and onwards. Fili Rutland's total of 43 comes in second, with Giannopoulos coming in 3rd with a total of 35. Sparta's record home attendance is 30,000 exactly, at the Souvlaki Stadium.
