La coupe du monde U20 est un tournoi regroupant les équipes nationales U20. Une nouvelle coupe du monde U20 démarre dès que la précédente est terminée, et elle dure 2 saisons. C'est en ce moment sa 14ème édition.

Déroulement

Les derniers tours sont joués dans un seul pays, choisi par les HT. Ainsi, les tours finaux de la 14ème coupe de monde U20 se dérouleront en Iran.

Historique

La première coupe du monde U20 regroupant les 40 meilleures équipes mondiales vit le jour lors de la saison 16. Les 10 autres équipes participèrent alors en même temps à une coupe moins cotée.

14 pays ont pour le moment organisé la coupe du Monde U20. L'océanie l'a organisée une fois, l'Amérique du Nord, l'Afrique et l'Amérique du Sud 2 fois, et l'Europe 4 fois. La saison prochaine, l'Asie organisera la coupe du monde U20 pour la 3ème fois.

Contrairement à la Coupe du Monde, la Coupe du Monde U20 offre plus de chances de briller aux petites nations HT. Puisque les joueurs ne sont éligibles que jusqu'à leur 21ème anniversaire, la priorité est donnée à la formation et aux choix d'entraînement, et on peut voir beaucoup de renouvellement d'une compétition à l'autre.

5 pays ont gagné la coupe du monde U20 : la Roumanie et la Suède 3 fois, l'Estonie, la Norvège et l'Allemagne 2 fois, et l'Italie une fois. L'Estonie et l'Allemagne ont le record de médailles, 5.
