After being involved with the Syrian U20 team for a season or so, the then coach went inactive around the time of the NT team elections. Broughy took this opportunity to get on the NT ladder by running for U20 coach of Syria. After a hard fought election he eventually won and was in charge for the whole of season 40. Unfortunately he didn't get to play any competitive games but he did work hard to house future prospects and prepare the team for the up coming world cup. He ran again in season 41 to continue his work but was beaten by a local user, who ended up being inactive and guided the team to bottom of their qualification group.
At the beginning of season 42, after a season of having no NT/U20 official work but being heavily involved in the England U20 scouting setup, Broughy decided to run for the job of England NT manager. After an almost traumatising election campaign he won by 45 votes and is one of his proudest moments. The team successfully made it through qualifying after a nailbiting final game but were unceremoniously dumped out of Round 2 on goal difference.
After England Broughy sought a new challenge and returned to Syria, the nation in which he had secured his first U20 job, and was duly elected NT manager with a four season plan, known as "The Broughy Plan" to give the best 17 year old players a huge amount of experience to help the country compete in the U20 qualification campaign by sacrificing two NT campaigns and one U20 campaign. The first three seasons of the plan were successfully carried out by Broughy and following managers and by the end the U20 team had some players with titanic XP levels ready for the world cup.
Syria U20 Again
After spending three seasons on The Broughy Plan and having a season out of NT/U20 management, Broughy decided to run once more for the position of Syria U20 coach to finish what he'd begun and get the best out of the Syrian players. A comprehensive diary was written during the campaign and serves as a great source of information for potential U20/NT candidates. It can be found at this post location: (15326530.1). The final result of all the hard word was that the team broke all previous U20 records for Syria and with a bit of luck (there were many unlucky results during the campaign) could have fought for qualification. A lot more information can be read in the thread mentioned.
On 6th July 2009 Broughy made what is perhaps his greatest contribution to Hattrick by creating The General Managers Club. More info can be found on it by clicking the link, but in a nutshell the GMC is now one of the best communities on Hattrick and boasts around 400 members. It is a credit to the hard work Broughy and others have put in to make it so successful, and that work continues to this day.
The Hattrick Lottery
After the success of the GMC Broughy decided he wanted to give something back to the HT community, and on 23rd August 2011 he founded The Hattrick Lottery. This federation would give supporter, flags and other items away for free as prizes to its members, without them needing to do any extra work other than join. This quickly became popular with nearly 600 members gained in just 4 months, and over 1000 within the first year. Again, more information can be found on the link.
