Rotterdam

Template:Infobox Dutch Region Rotterdam is, in terms of population, the second largest municipality in the Netherlands after the capital, Amsterdam, and the largest city in the province of Zuid-Holland. The city has the largest port of Europe. It became the world's busiest port in 1962, but lost this status to Shanghai in 2004. It is situated on the banks of the river Nieuwe Maas ("New Meuse"), one of the streams in the delta formed by the Rhine and Meuse rivers. The name "Rotterdam" derives from the city's origin at a dam in a small tributary river, the Rotte. In Hattrick, Rotterdam is known as a quite succesfull region.

In the Netherlands, Rotterdam has the highest percentage of non-western foreigners. Nearly half the population are not native to the Netherlands or have at least one parent born outside the country. Recent figures show that Muslim comprise 40 percent of the city's population. The city is home to one of the largest Cape Verdean communities in the world, as well as the largest Dutch Antillean community.

Rotterdam has had a rich hiphop scene since the early 1980s. It is also the home of Gabber, a type of music popular in the mid-1990s, with hard beats and samples. Bands like Neophyte and Rotterdam Terror Corps (RTC) started in Rotterdam.
