Sealand Cup XI was the eleventh edition of the Sealand Cup, the friendly competition of the Sealand federation and was held in (Dutch) season 24 (returning after being not played during season 23). The final was held at Glory of the Sea Stadium on 28 May 2008, where The Jazz Messengers defeated Kein Engel! 6–0. This was the second consecutive time that a Belgian club won the Sealand Cup. Defending champions KVC Aquila did not compete in the tournament.

Participating teams

8 teams participated in Sealand Cup XI, without any previous champion returning. This was the first time (except from the first edition) that no participant had won the Sealand Cup before. Four teams made their début.

Group Stage

The Group Stage of the eleventh Sealand Cup ran from 23 April to 7 May 2008.

Format

The teams in each group played each other in a single round-robin format, playing the other teams in the group once (at home or away). All matches had to produce a winner, with each team earning 3 points for a win in regular time, 1 point for a win after extra time or penalty shoot-out and 0 points for a loss. This point system is similar to the system used by the (real-life) Major League Soccer from 1996 to 1999. All teams advanced to the quarterfinals. Teams that did not challenge their opponent or accept their opponent's challenge were penalized with an automatic 3–0 defeat.

Knockout Stage

The next stage of the tournament was the Knockout Stage. All teams qualified for this stage. The winners of each group would play the fourth-placed teams of the opposite group and the runners-up of each group would play the third-placed teams of the opposite group. In the semi-finals, the winners of the matches involving the Group A winner and the Group B runner-up faced each other and so did the winners of the matches involving the Group B winner and the Group A runner-up. The teams placing third and fourth in each group had home advantage in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, home advantage was allocated to even out the number of home and away matches between the teams. The final was held at a neutral venue. Glory of the Sea Stadium, the home stadium of Sealand FC, was selected as host of the final. This was the first time the final was played outside the Netherlands.

For the first time, classification matches were played between the losers of the quarterfinals. The winners and losers of those matches played also for fifth and seventh place. The losers of the semi-finals played for the bronze medal, this being the second time a third-place playoff was held.
