Group Stage[edit]

The Group Stage of the seventh Sealand Cup ran from 18 October to 1 November 2006.

Format[edit]

The teams in each group played each other in a single round-robin format, playing the other teams in the group once. Home advantage was determined by the Ranking, with the lower-ranked team playing at home. Each team earned 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. The top-two teams of each group advanced to the quarterfinals. Teams that did not challenge their opponent or accept their opponent's challenge were penalized with an automatic 0-5 defeat.

Knockout Stage[edit]

The next stage of the tournament was the Knockout Stage. Eight teams qualified for this stage (the group winners and runners-up from all four groups). In the quarterfinals, group winners faced runners-up. Teams from Group A and C played against each other and so did teams from Group B and D. In the semi-finals, the winners of the quarterfinals involving the winners of Group A and D would play in the first match, while the winners of the quarterfinals involving the winners of Group C and B would play in the other match.

For the first time, a third-place playoff was played between the losing semifinalists. This match was, however, not originally scheduled. All eight matches in the knockout stage were played at a neutral venue and hosted by a team that did not compete in the knockout stage. Philips Stadion was selected to host the final.
