Coral Cove Football Club is an American football club from the Pacific Northwest of the United States and is based at the Skinner's Park stadium in Eugene Oregon. Founded in season 25, the club has spent its entire existence in the sixth level of the American football league in series VI.101.

The club's youth academy, the Willamette Valley Academy is an internationally recognized academy that competes internationally in the Venom Youth League.

History

Early Years (Season 25-30)

Founded in the Spring of [2003] as the New Orleans Apaches, the club known today as Coral Cove FC has gone through numerous changes in ownerships and name changes. Previous owners of the club had seen some success with the team and even earned promotion to the fifth division for two seasons before the team was relegated back to the sixth division and into Series VI.101

In the Summer of [2005], and midway through Season 25, the club known as the Archipellagios was purchased and the new owners improved on the previous owners final table position, finishing fifth, up from sixth. At the end of Season 25, the team was formally renamed Coral Cove FC and all current players were immediately released from their contracts. In response to a high demand for a professional football team, and the owners relationship to the city of Eugene, the team's headquarters was moved to the "Emerald City" in Oregon.

Hud Roberts was appointed as player/coach on 11 May and the club held trials for players on 13 May. An estimated 350 players applied to participate in the trials, of whom, just 16 were chosen to play for Eugene's new club, Coral Cove FC.

Club Colors

In its infancy, Coral Cove's home kit was a dark blue and black pin stripped jersey with blue shorts and socks with a black trim. In conjunction with the club's name and crest change at the end of Season 25, the team's colors and kits were also changed.

In it's early years, the Cove played their home matches in an all blue kit with white trim and their away matches were played in an all white kite with blue trim. The Cove's third kit was traditionally all black in homage to the death of club legend Alejandro Careago. A fourth kit all yellow kit was commonly worn for cup matches, as it was, superstitiously, believed to bring the club good luck, but it was rarely chosen to league matches.

With the club's reformation in Season 47, the traditional home and away kits have been brought back, with minimal change. Currently, home matches are played in white shorts with blue socks and jerseys and away matches are played in the opposite, blue shorts and white socks and jerseys.

The Academy

Season 1-2

At the youth level, The Cove is represented by the Willamette Valley Academy. The Academy was founded in Season 32, when competitive youth clubs and leagues were approved by league officials.

Because of a friendship between managers and owners, the Academy was invited to play in the Venom Youth League (formally 3wide.com Venom Youth League). And in an attempt to create a larger regional influence, the Academy sent scouts to California, Oregon, and Seattle.

In its first competitive season, the Academy represented the senior team extremely well, finishing first in the 16 team league. The Academy earned 85 points from 30 games (18 more than second place Schrewsbury Academy) and scored an unheard of 152 goals while only allowing 23. In the Academy's second season, 14 matches were played and the Academy earned 39 points, scored 90, and allowed just 16, and for the second consecutive season, finished first.

After that second season, the Venom Youth League was abolished and Coral Cove FC chose to stop funding for the Academy and instead pumped more cash into the senior team.

Academy Youth

The Willamette Valley Academy has grown a reputation of selecting only those young players that show exceptional talent and potential. Once a player has been selected, they are immediately moved to the club's training facilities and begin training with the youth team.

It was reported than on a number of occasions, coach Gaddis had nearly given up on Morris and had considered dropping him from the academy. With little hope for the player, Gaddis chose to move Morris out of defense and into the midfield where he "could do less damage", and to the surprise of many, Morris began to shine. Since then, Morris had caught the eye of both the youth league and the eyes of the senior team players and coaches. As the club became more and more successful, and tickets were quickly selling out, the club requested to be allowed to begin construction to expand the stadium, but the request was denied by the city council. At the end of Season 31 the club moved out of The Cove and into Skinner's Park, a facility that would allow them to easily expand and construct new stands. The newly dubbed Skinner's Park was named in respect to Eugene Skinner, the founder of Eugene Oregon. By the end of Season 31, the club had completed the expansion of Skinner's Park to seat 30,000 fans. In the following seasons, the stadium had an average attendance of just over 15,000 for league matches and 1,700 for friendly matches. In total, over 250 league and friendly matches had been played at Skinners Park. With the club making a return to professional football and to Eugene Oregon, they have once again moved into The Cove. The owners have already begun to make unofficial inquiries to Eugene's city council about future expansion. Rivalries Tradionally, Moon Magic FC and Coral Cove FC were the fiercest of rivals. Both clubs were the forerunners in series VI.101 and left the rest of the league behind them as they battled one another for the championship for many seasons. The bitter rivalry between the two teams had no official beginning or reasoning, but was commonly described by fans as a natural dislike for the other club. Many fans argued that the rivalry began after Moon Magic resonded violently to back to back loses by injuring Coral Cove players Chester Logan, Maxime Gueneau, Allan Tamm, and Stanley Correa in a two - nil victory at Magic Park. The two sides played one another eleven times with The Cove winning six of those matches to Moon Magic's four. The media and fans alike were aware of the excitement surrounding the match up the clubs offered, and it was evident by the 17,000 spectator average and both clubs' home venues. In the past, Magic Park had sold out it's 21,000 seat stadium twice and Skinner's Park had sold out all 30,000 of it's seats twice. When playing at home, Coral Cove FC never lost to Moon Magic FC, whereas The Cove claimed victory twice away at Magic Park.
