Virgil van Dijk (Breda, born Season 41, Nederland) is a Dutch football player, who currently plays as a defender for Red Star Tunis.
Career
Career at E-L Celtics
van Dijk started his career at the youth team of E-L Celtics in his local town of Breda. His home team focussed on training their own players and purchasing local players, and as such, it was planned that van Dijk would receive an extensive training at his team to be a first-team player. After graduating from the youth team, he started in friendly matches in the senior team, training his playmaking skills. Later on, he was trained as a defender, to become an important asset in central defence. As such, van Dijk is a central defender who contributes highly to the midfield ratings as well.
van Dijk's time at E-L Celtics was particularly successful. He became a first-team player from season 61 onwards and helped to keep the team at the top 2 positions for his two first seasons in that position. In season 63, the team promoted after a qualification game to division V, but as again demoted only one season later. The team continued to evolve in division VI, but van Dijk contributed to another promotion to 5th division in his last full season at his home team, season 67.
Career at Red Star Tunis
With van Dijk ageing and new trainees arriving at the central defender positions, a transfer solution was sought for van Dijk. He was transferred to Hattrick International team Red Star Tunis at the middle of season 68, where he would become a key player in the central defense of the team.
