Extra time is an additional period played if the score is tied at the end of normal time. Extra time is played when the game is required to have a clear winner, so it is possible to play extra time in a friendly match using cup rules or in a cup match (or in a knockout tournament) where only one team can advance to the next stage.

If the score remains level after extra time, the game is determined as a draw and the winning penalty shoot-out team are provided with recognition.

In score notation, it is often denoted by the letters ET or a.e.t. the latter of which stands for "after extra time".

120' Game

Extra training is possible during extra time. the added 30 minutes count as played time, so players can get trained, albeit for the starting players this has no use (the trainable minutes for the week is 90 minutes, the regular game time).

This time can be used to get other players at a trainable position only through substitutions and switch formations. One thing to watch out is that only 3 substitutions are allowed, so you should use the remaining order slots to switch player's positions.

A match where both players attempt to get 30 minutes of extra training is called the 120' game (also written 120 game).

How do you get extra training?

The extra training can be used in two ways:

  • use it to give additional training in a second skill of some players - train your defenders on playmaking, or your midfielders and keeper on defense.
  • make a scheme involving also the league game to give extra players full training - with a good scheme one can give a full player extra training.

The golden goal rule was introduced in Hattrick and was in use for a long time (the team who score first in extra time is the winner). Then the rule has been disapplied in the game too, many years after it was not applied in the real football.
