Special Event
A special event (SE) is an additional uncommon match event triggered by weather and by special characteristics of single players or of the whole squad.
The team that dominates the midfield have a slightly higher chance to activate a special event than the opponent.
A good option for the SE optimized teams is to play creatively. This tactic increases the odds of special events happening.
The global probability for a new SE is reduced after each SE, 6 being the maximum, modified by +1 for each team "playing creatively".
Taxonomy
Specisl events are of two main categories: "weather" and "goal" special events.
- A weather SE may affect (both positively or negatively) an individual player's performance for the rest of the game.
- A goal SE (by the team or by a single player) creates an extra scoring opportunity.
As you can guess, any event related to the whole team (one of Corner, Experienced Forward or Inexperienced Defender) belongs to the category of Team Goal SE and any event related to a single player (or two players) belongs to Individual Goal SE. If the event is a Team Goal SE, the team with the higher midfield has more chances to get it. For the Individual Goal events, midfield rating doesn’t matter, but the number of your players with specialties does.
In-match process
After the new SE system was set in 2017, the match engine generates these events with the following cycle (also described in a a specific editorial):
- At the beginning of the math, decide if there is any weather SE at all and choose the player or players affected,
- Decide if there is any goal SE at all,
- Choose a goal SE type between individual or team events,
- Choose the special event within the chosen type,
- Choose the team that will get the SE, based on a check to find specialists for this specific event in each team,
- If requested in SE routine, is performed a goal check [1].
Weather special events

Certain specialties may be better suited to certain weather condition. If a weather special event happens, a player is affected for the rest of the game, as weather is static for the whole match.
All skills are affected, including Goalkeeping, so Goalkeepers are significantly influenced by weather events too.

Technical player and weather
-
- Sunshine: gains 5% on all skills during the whole match.
- Rain: loses 5% on all skills during the whole match.
Powerful player and weather
-
- Rain: gains 5% on all skills during the whole match.
- Sunshine: loses 5% on all skills during the whole match.
Quick player and weather
-
- Sunshine: loses 5% on skills during the whole match.
- Rain: loses 5% on all skills during the whole match.
Support player give a rating's boost but this is not a special event and is it not connected to weather. It was confirmed that this boost is one of the only two SEs a goalkeeper can achieve.
The rating of a player will reflect his performance accordingly. For example, adding a Quick player on rain without changing anything else, can decrease your winning chances by 1.5% more or less, based on the skills of the player. Since the weather event will affect his skills, then the success rate for Quick events will be lower too.
Goal special events
![]() |
In a match, you and your opponent can have goal special events happen apart from the normal chances decided by the clash between attacks against defences.
One single goal SE can happen more than once in the game. However, with every next occurrence, the chance will be lower. Every SE has the same probabilities to happen in each slot (central attack/defence or side attack/defence).
The probability of event's creation is nearly the same for all Specialties. For example, here is a Unpredictable and Quick events frequency comparison (over 1 milion matches sample - HT official data):
- 2 Unpredictable players in both teams can create 0.100 events in average, and 2 Quick players can create 0.105 in average
- 4 Unpredictable can create 0.290 events, and 4 Quicks 0.290
- 5 Unpredictable can create 0.350 events, and 5 Quicks 0.353
In summary, 6 unpredictable can create 0.42 SE on average, a number similar to 6 quick players. But if you choose 3 unpredictable and 3 fast, you can have 0.47 SE on average. So choosing just one specialty is not the only option. The hope of developers is to leave no "best" option art all.
Individual Goal SE
- Winger events
-
- Winger to Any Player and Winger to Head Player: If your winger manages to break through the defense on his side of the pitch, he might pass the ball to the other Winger, Forward, or an Inner Midfielder, finished by an attacker with head skill or good scoring.
Attacks on... | Right Wing Back | Right CD | Central Defender | Left CD | Left WB |
Right wing | 100% | 25% | 0% | 0% | 0% |
Right center | 25% | 100% | 25% | 0% | 0% |

Left center | 0% | 0% | 25% | 100% | 25% |
Left wing | 0% | 0% | 0% | 25% | 100% |
Quick player
-
- Quick Passes: Again, Wingers, Inner Midfielders, and Forwards can start a quick rush with potential for a subsequent pass. Any Winger and Forward can be the ball receiver.:* Quick Score: Winger, Forward or Inner Midfielder may create an event when facing defender (although defending skill and quick skill helps defend against this event),
- Quick Defenders (negative): Defender help stopping opposing Quick score event from Wingers, Forward or Inner Midfielder. If the exact opposite player is also quick, then he has 100% chance to stop the attack. Otherwise, nearby quick players have a much smaller chance to stop it instead.
Technical player
-
- Technical creates a Counter Attack: Every Technical Defender and Wing Back will give you a non-tactical counter attack from a missed normal chance of your opponent with a small chance to trigger (from 1.7 to 3% based on how many technical back players you have).
- Technical Goes around a Head (negative): Defenders = Technical Forwards and Wingers are dangerous for Head Defenders,
- Midfielders = Technical Forwards are dangerous for Head Midfielders,
- Winger = technical winger may create an event when facing a head defender,
- Forwards = Head Defenders are weak against Technical forwards.
Unpredictable player
-
- Unpredictable Long Pass: The keeper, wing backs and central defenders can initiate this scoring opportunity. In specific, this is the only SE that a Goalkeeper can get.
- Unpredictable Special Action: Any Unpredictable player (except goalkeepers) may read their opponents, dribble, and find an opening pass. The player then receiving the pass would be a Winger or Forward. Same as before, a lost chance can lead to a counter attack for your opponent.
- Unpredictable Scores on His Own: Wingers, Inner Midfielders or Forwards one on one with the goalkeeper. Keep in mind that a lost chance can create a counter attack for your opponent.
- Unpredictable Mistake (negative): Defenders, Wing Backs and Inner Midfielders, only if unpredictable with low defending skill, can have a bad day and make a fatal mistake. An opposing Winger or Forward can take advantage of this.
- Unpredictable Own Goal (negative): Unpredictable Wingers and Forwards with low passing skill level can make a wrong move towards to your defense and your goalkeeper might not be able to stop it.
Powerful player
-
- Powerful Normal Forward: a PNG forces a second chance to shoot and score after a normal chance for your team has been missed. Keep in mind that this physical play could result in yellow cards! For that reason, if your player has already been carded, he will tread more carefully in these situations. Only 10% probabilities to create a second chance.
- Powerful Defensive Inner Midfielder: Sitting Midfielder wins the ball breaking up attacks. If he succeeds in pressing, the opponent’s attack breaks down.

Team Goal SE
- Corner to anyone and to Head specialist
-
- For corners you need Head specialists. Having a high number of Head players your team will be more likely to score from the Head SE, but also to defend against your opponent's Headers. Note that the influence of your Headers in scoring is A LOT BIGGER than in defending against your opponent's ones.
- Tired Defender Mistake
-
- High stamina player if against a lower stamina player. It can be triggered only during second half.
- Inexperienced defenders and Experienced forwards
-
- High experience Midfielder of Forward can generate an event if against a low experience Defenders. Higher experience Defenders cannot be victimised.
Plus randomly generated non-tactical long shots that need a combination of Scoring and Set Pieces to score.
