Suriname (sometimes spelled Surinam in Dutch) is an American country. It was the 96th nation to join the Hattrick World.
The Republic of Suriname is the smallest sovereign state in South America with a population of half a milion, most of whom live in and around the capital and largest city, Paramaribo.Suriname was part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and even if the country left the Netherlands to become an independent state on 25 November 1975, Dutch remains the official language (nonetheless Sranan Tongo, an English-based creole language, is a widely used).
History
- Surinamese league exists since April 2005. It is one of the four new leagues for global season 26.
- Suriname has always been a very small league in the huge world of Hattrick and today remains in the same structure from the start: a top division (Hoofdklasse), 4 second divisions (Division II.1, Division II.2, Division II.3, Division II.4) and 16 third divisions.
- Although the country has a population of nearly a half million citizens, the user's number has always been low. A reason for this could be that, in the early days of the game, a few Surinamese people had internet at home and had to play it in cyber-pubs or internet cafes.
- Suriname has not hosted any World Cup yet.
