第一屆世界杯 (第15季)

主辨國 日本 南韓 隊數 40 冠軍 瑞典 亞軍 英格蘭 季軍(四強落敗) 美國 芬蘭

The Qualification rounds were based on the top 40 teams in the rankings table. Of those teams, the top eight in rankings qualified directly. The remaining thirty-two teams played for the final eight spots in the cup. In the Pre-Qualifications the most unexpected result was propably that South Africa defeated România after a dramatic fight. World Cup hosts Nippon and Hanguk were both out, having lost to Scotland and México respectively. México then proceeded to demolish Schweiz 8-0 in the Qualifications!

Round II started with a shock as Nederland gave Suomi a walkover. This gave Suomi the first place in Group 4. Nederland managed to recover and finished ahead of Italia and Danmark to get the second place. In Round III Suomi and Nederland were again in the same group. This time Suomi solidly defeated Nederland to get the second place in Group 1 after Sverige.

Final saw the beginning of Sverige's reign as they defeated England 4-1. England played a great second half, but little did that matter as Sverige already had hammered home a 4-0 lead.

Sweden takes home World Cup

29.04.2002

The swedish national team rose to extreme expectations as they defeated England 4-1 in the World Cup final. England played a great second half, but little did that matter as the Swedes already had hammered home a 4-0 lead. While Sweden rejoices, a lot of credit goes out to the rest of the national teams that have improved A LOT over the last season and will continue to do so! Come next World Cup, the final standings may look a lot different. Let the preparations begin!
